Report: Trump's four key advisers on bombing Iran

Daily Mail6 hours ago

President Donald Trump has been coached through the Iran and Israel war by four crucial confidants, but they are surprisingly not all top military brass. Though Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has played a public role in the Trump administration's defense strategy, he is not among the advisors closest to the president on the Iran matter, current and former White House sources say.
Neither is Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, the sources told the Washington Post. Though sources close to the intelligence director push back, saying she's been in regular contact with the president this week and at important meetings.
The most influential figures in Trump's orbit as he weighs a U.S. strikes to take out Iran's nuclear technology are Vice President J.D. Vance , Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, an outside White House advisor told the outlet.
The group of four is referred to as the 'Tier one' group of decision makers, the advisor shared. These are the men making critical decisions on whether to get involved in the war. These sour advisors are now helping the president sort through contingency plans for U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities that are buried deep under mountains.
Israeli military officials have called on the U.S. to use GB-57 'bunker buster' bombs on the nuclear sites - a weapon that can only be delivered by U.S.-made planes that are captained by American pilots - a move that risks escalating the conflict further. The Pentagon pushed back on the Post report, telling the Daily Mail that Hegseth has not been sidelined amid Caine's rising influence.
'This claim is completely false,' Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement. 'The Secretary is speaking with the President multiple times a day each day and has been with the President in the Situation Room this week. The DNI has been in critical meetings with the president on Iran this week, a senior intelligence official told the Daily Mail on Thursday, saying she's taking part in National Security Council meetings and impromptu White House sessions.
The Gorilla vs. The Gram
Trump has also been consulting with General Michael Erik Kurilla, the four-star head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) who has earned the imposing nickname 'The Gorilla.' Multiple U.S. officials have said Kurilla has been a more influential voice than the defense secretary and he routinely gets his requests for additional resources approved, making CENTCOM one of the most fortified commands.
Meanwhile, at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), several longtime staffers expressed concern over Gabbard's priorities. Sources inside the ODNI accuse Trump's spy chief of focusing on her appearance rather than her intelligence work, CNN reports. These staffers pointed to her polished Instagram making her appear more like a fitness influencer than a Cabinet member.

JD Vance ramps up Newsom spat with LA visit

JD Vance will visit marines in Los Angeles amid tensions over the administration's crackdown on immigration. The vice-president will meet with law enforcement and military leadership deployed by Donald Trump in the city to help control violent protests. 'Vice-president JD Vance will travel to Los Angeles, California, where he will tour a multi-agency federal joint operations centre, a federal mobile command centre, meet with leadership and Marines, and deliver brief remarks,' according to a readout. The visit risks inflaming the already tense relationship between Gavin Newsom, the state's governor, and the White House. Mr Newsom and Mr Trump have been locked in a fierce war of words since the president seized control of California's national guard and deployed 2,000 troops, as well as marines, to the streets of Los Angeles last week. Thousands came out to protest recent Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. During demonstrations, masked protesters set fire to self-driving cars and threw rocks, fireworks and Molotov cocktails at police. Several journalists were shot by officers using non-lethal rounds as they covered the protests, including a photographer employed by The Telegraph. Mr Newsom claims the president inflamed the riots with his heavy-handed response, and sued the Trump administration to stop the deployments. An appeals court on Thursday allowed Mr Trump to keep control of National Guard troops he deployed to Los Angeles. The decision halts a ruling from a lower court judge who found Mr Trump acted illegally when he mobilised the soldiers despite opposition from Mr Newsom. The court said that while presidents don't have unfettered power to seize control of a state's guard, the Trump administration had presented enough evidence to show it had a defensible rationale for doing so and that Mr Newsom had no power to veto the president's order. Trump celebrated the decision on his Truth Social platform, calling it a 'big win.' ' A ll over the United States, if our cities, and our people, need protection, we are the ones to give it to them should state and local police be unable, for whatever reason, to get the job done,' he added.

Immigrant rights activists call on LA Dodgers to speak out against ICE raids

LOS ANGELES, June 20 (Reuters) - Immigrant rights leaders and others on Friday called on the Los Angeles Dodgers organization to make a "forceful stand" against raids being carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents across the city. The Dodgers have a large Latino fan base and calls for the team to make a public statement denouncing the raids have grown since they began two weeks ago. "This is the moment for the Dodgers to stand with the families whom masked agents are tearing apart," a coalition of over 50 community, labor, faith, and immigrant rights leaders said in a petition to the team. "Children who may have sat in your seats enjoying a game now come home with no parents to receive them and no word of their whereabouts or well-being other than reports of inhumane treatment in detention centers across California and the Southwest." The leaders asked the Dodgers to issue a public statement saying that the ICE raids must stop and to back organizations focused on "integrating immigrants into the fabric of our great region." The Dodgers did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The petition comes a day after the Dodgers said they had denied ICE agents access to the parking lot at Dodger Stadium, and it called on the Dodgers to continue to ensure that no Dodgers' property be used for immigration enforcement operations. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said on Thursday that CBP vehicles used the parking lot briefly and that their presence "had nothing to do with the Dodgers." The raids have sparked street protests, which in turn prompted U.S. President Donald Trump to send in the National Guard and U.S. Marines to protect federal personnel and property, fueling more protests and tension. The Dodgers, coming off a World Series championship in 2024, are a cultural touchstone in Los Angeles. Their Latino fan base has been a large part of the team's identity at least since the "Fernandomania" craze surrounding Mexican-born pitcher Fernando Valenzuela in the early 1980s. The professional soccer clubs LAFC and Angel City FC have issued statements of support for immigrants but otherwise the city's sports franchises have refrained from commenting.
