Real Madrid make Kylian Mbappe decision after he made training return having lost 5kg when he was hospitalised due to illness

Real Madrid have made a call on the fitness of Kylian Mbappe after the forward's physique changed dramatically when he was hospitalised with acute gastroenteritis.
The Frenchman has lost four or five kilos, according to Marca, and his usual weight hovers around the 75kg mark.
Pictures of him training in the gym having come out of hospital show just how significant a change to his body there has been.
Madrid take on RB Salzburg of Austria in the early hours of Friday morning as they bid to confirm qualification for the knockout stages of the Club World Cup.
Xabi Alonso 's side have four points from two games so far, beating Pachuca but drawing with Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal. If they lose later this week, they could find themselves eliminated if Al-Hilal also win their match.
They will, meanwhile, have to try and claim victory without key man Mbappe. The 26-year-old has been left out of Los Blancos ' squad for the game, just as he has been for the rest of the tournament so far.
Mbappe's usually muscular arms and legs in particular looked incredibly lean following the serious bout of stomach flu he suffered with.
Acute gastroentiritis usually manifests with vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain - leading to dehydration.
Mbappe was affected by the issue just hours after arriving with the team in Palm Beach for the Club World Cup.
Madrid released a statement last Thursday in which they clarified why Mbappe was absent.
The club said that he had been taken to hospital on the day of their match against Al-Hilal to undergo tests, adding that he had made a return to the team's camp.
On Friday, Real also confirmed that Mbappe was in the team hotel and undertaking aerobic work as he recovered from illness.
When prompted to give an update on Mbappe's health on Tuesday, Alonso said: 'Kylian was feeling a bit better in the morning, but not good enough because it's too hot. We're going to wait for him until the last moment, we'll decide tomorrow.'
In Mbappe's place, Alonso opted to start 21-year-old striker Gonzalo Garcia who scored 25 goals in 36 matches for Real Madrid Castilla last season.

Man City's Echeverri likely to miss rest of Club World Cup with ankle injury

June 26 (Reuters) - Manchester City attacking midfielder Claudio Echeverri is likely to miss the rest of the Club World Cup after suffering a twisted ankle during their 6-0 win over Al-Ain, manager Pep Guardiola said on Wednesday. The 19-year-old Argentina international scored from a free kick as City ensured qualification for the knockout stages with their second group-stage win in a row on Sunday, but could not continue after halftime due to the injury. "He has some problems with his ankle. It'll be two or three weeks out unfortunately. I feel so sorry for him, for all of us," Guardiola told reporters ahead of their final Group G match against Juventus on Thursday. City are tied with Juventus on six points but sit second in the group. The runner-up plays the winner of Group H in the round of 16, which is currently Real Madrid.

Mbappe to miss Salzburg game but likely fit for knockout rounds, says Alonso

PHILADELPHIA, June 25 (Reuters) - Kylian Mbappe will miss Real Madrid's final Club World Cup group-stage game against RB Salzburg as he continues his recovery from illness but should be ready for the knockout phase if they progress, manager Xabi Alonso said on Wednesday. The French forward returned to training earlier in the day, after being struck down by acute gastroenteritis last week, but Alonso said the decision to skip Thursday's match was made to prioritise the player's full recovery. "It was his first day back in boots, his first day running a little, and he did well," Alonso told reporters at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. "But he's not fully recovered yet. "We talked about it after training and he prefers to rest and recover properly for when we go through. And if we make it to the round of 16 he'll be available, but he was still in the recovery process and wasn't perfect for tomorrow." Mbappe, who received treatment in hospital in Miami last week, has already missed Real's 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal and their 3-1 victory over Pachuca, a win they achieved despite playing most of the match with 10 men. The Spaniards lead Group H with four points, ahead of Salzburg on goal difference, with Al-Hilal on two points and Pachuca yet to secure a point. Alonso, who recently took the reins at Real following Carlo Ancelotti's departure to manage Brazil, said they had two objectives for Thursday's game. "The first is to win and finish top of the group. The second is to continue improving as a team ahead of the knockout stage," he added. While Manchester City are looming as potential opponents in the round of 16, Alonso said his side would not even think about the permutations. "It's a bad idea to do the math tomorrow," he said. "The only decision is to finish first and give it your all. We're going out to win."
