Delhi's top cop Sanjay Arora to retire on July 31
The Delhi government's home department on Monday issued a formal notification announcing the retirement of Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on July 31, 2025, upon attaining the age of superannuation. A 1988-batch IPS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, Arora's exit will mark the culmination of a nearly four-decade-long policing career.
The order, issued with the approval of Delhi lieutenant governor VK Saxena, has been sent to the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), police headquarters, the directorate of vigilance, and other relevant departments. However, officials said the notification is a routine administrative step typically issued two months ahead of the scheduled retirement of IAS and IPS officers.
'This is a standard procedure,' said a senior Delhi Police officer on condition of anonymity. 'Similar notifications have been issued in the past even for officers who eventually received extensions. Since the power to appoint or extend the tenure of the Delhi Police chief lies solely with the MHA, nothing is certain until the end of July.'
Arora, who took charge as Delhi's police commissioner on August 1, 2022, was the third officer from outside the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre to lead the city's police, after Ajay Raaj Sharma and Rakesh Asthana. During his tenure, he was known for a composed leadership style and no-nonsense approach to policing, steering the force through several high-profile law and order situations.
Before his appointment in Delhi, Arora served as the director general of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and held key positions in Tamil Nadu and across various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). His leadership in anti-Naxal operations and efforts at strengthening inter-agency coordination were widely praised.
An engineering graduate, Arora was also part of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG), and had previously earned commendations for postings with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Arora's legacy is expected to be defined by a push toward greater accountability within the force and adoption of new technologies to meet the capital's evolving security needs.

Asst agri official held accepting bribe in Alwar
Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught an assistant agriculture official posted in Govindgarh, Alwar, Thursday while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000. The officer, identified as Ali Hasan, was arrested during a trap laid by the Alwar Unit-I of the ACB following a complaint. According to Ravi Prakash Meharda, director general of ACB, the complainant previously operated a licenced shop under his wife's name for selling fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides in Baroli village. After shifting the shop to Govindgarh in 2024, he applied online for a change of location on the agriculture dept's portal on Dec 31, 2024. Hasan, who was responsible for processing the application, initially demanded Rs 1,000 to approve the location change for the seed licence, which he received. Later, he demanded Rs 5,000 more for approving the location change for the fertiliser and pesticide licences, claiming it was for himself and other senior officials, following a site verification. After confirming the allegations, the ACB team caught Hasan accepting Rs 3,000 as part of the bribe during a planned operation. Hasan has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Man gets 5-year RI for molesting 8-year-old
N agpur: Nikhil Nikose, a 26-year-old resident of Wadi has been convicted for molesting an 8-year-old girl, and awarded rigorous imprisonment of five years and a fine of Rs4,000. Nikose was pronounced guilty on June 13 by judge RP Pandey of the district and sessions court. The case stems from a complaint filed by a 30-year-old lady at Wadi police station on April 23, 2022. According to the complaint, the complainant and her daughter had gone to attend a relative's engagement ceremony when the accused lured the eight-year-old victim away on the pretext of feeding her ice cream, and molested her. Following the complaint, the cops arrested the accused the next day under the Pocso Act . Based on evidence and witnesses presented, the court found Nikose guilty and sentenced him to undergo imprisonment of five years under Section 10 of Pocso, and Section 363 of IPS, along with a total fine of Rs4,000. Karnataka Lokayukta tells cops to leave if they can't work with honesty, integrity
Bengaluru: Taking note of a recent case where a dismissed constable was found extorting money from corrupt officials by using the name of an IPS officer, Lokayukta Justice BS Patil told police officers of the anti-corruption agency to leave if they don't want to work with honesty, integrity, and commitment. Speaking to TOI, Patil confirmed he had a meeting with senior officials of the police wing of the institution. He said a few people are spoiling the reputation of the institution. "We, as an institution, raided many corrupt officials and unearthed maladministration. As of today, 25,000 cases have been registered under the Karnataka Lokayukta Act," he said. "Outside criminals encouraged by insiders (officials) create a mess. So, I have been curt with them... I asked them to leave the institute if they are not committed to their work," Patil said. "I warned them of leaving all my work and investigating them if any such allegations come to my notice," he added. "Based on the outcome of the investigation into the recent (extortion) case, I have instructed police to issue notices to all those involved and take necessary action.
