After completing her early education, Simala cleared the MPPSC exam and started her career as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). But she had bigger goals. She prepared for the UPSC exam and without taking help of any kind of coaching she cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in her first attempt to became an IPS officer in 2010. She secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 51.
