Good morning! Hit a game winner today.
The NCAA men's tournament technically started last night, and though we didn't have the pandemonium tomorrow will bring, we still got two incredible results, for opposite reasons:
ALABAMA STATE TAKES A LEAD IN THE FINAL SECOND 😱#MarchMadness pic.twitter.com/TktQHBcwo9
— NCAA March Madness (@MarchMadnessMBB) March 19, 2025
If anything, these play-in games are fun because they give a team like Alabama State a great tournament memory before playing No. 1 overall seed Auburn on Friday.
One more day until the glory begins. Two things before we blow out the bracket picks tomorrow:
Let's keep going:
Hooray, pro-rel
Last night, United Soccer League owners voted to become the first American pro soccer organization to adopt promotion and relegation, sources told The Athletic. USL currently runs two soccer leagues, one in the second division and another in the third. But just last month owners announced plans to launch a first-division league, which would compete directly with MLS, and promotion and relegation would be standardized throughout the three-league pyramid. I could not be more excited for this, and any American soccer fan possessing a passing familiarity with European soccer should agree.

A big week in Dodgerland
The Dodgers won their Opening Day game over the Cubs in Tokyo, 4-1, in what became a momentous day for the franchise. A team anchored by Japanese stars shone in front of over 40,000 fans, which made the famously cool Shohei Ohtani nervous. The country is 'baseball-mad,' as Fabian Ardaya explains, and the Dodgers are at the center of its adoration right now. MLB is betting big on Japan, too — and the prize could be worth billions. More: Watch Rates & Barrels break it all down. Dodgers and Cubs fans will want to tune in.
Indiana snags WVU coach
Darian DeVries will be the new head men's basketball coach at Indiana, the school announced yesterday, ending a brutal week for West Virginia's basketball program. The Mountaineers were robbed of an NCAA Tournament spot Sunday, and two days later their coach leaves for a traditional powerhouse. Adding to it all: DeVries' son Tucker, a talented guard, will probably follow his father to Indiana. See our full report here.

Caitlin Clark Has Three-Word Question for Sophie Cunningham in New Post

Caitlin Clark Has Three-Word Question for Sophie Cunningham in New Post originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark made a successful return to the court on Saturday following a five-game absence due to a quad injury. Advertisement Against the New York Liberty, Clark exploded for 32 points and recorded eight rebounds and nine assists to lead the Fever to a 102-88 victory. While Clark had seven turnovers, she was still impactful on all fronts, tallying two blocks and a steal on the defensive end. She also shot 55% from the field and made seven shots from deep out of 14 attempts. Following the win, Clark was quick to celebrate her return, posting several photos of herself from the game on social media and writing in the caption, "good to be back." Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22).Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Amusingly enough, the Fever guard was her usual self, as she poked fun at one of her teammates in her new post. On her Instagram Stories, she highlighted one photo showing herself taking a 3-pointer while Fever backup Sophie Cunningham was kneeling in the background. Advertisement "Bro u good?" Clark wrote while tagging Cunningham. Sophie Cunningham, who also returned from a three-game absence due to an ankle injury, has yet to respond to Caitlin Clark's message. Considering that they often engage in lighthearted banter on social media, though, fans can probably expect a response from her soon. Cunningham did play well in her first game back, as she tallied five points, four rebounds and one steal in 25 minutes of play off the bench. She had the highest plus-minus rating on the team at +31, highlighting her impact on the game. Sophie Cunningham's One-Word Response to Caitlin Clark's Concern

Sophie Cunningham's One-Word Response to Caitlin Clark's Concern originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It wasn't just Caitlin Clark who made her much-anticipated return to action on Saturday night against the New York Liberty. Advertisement Sophie Cunningham, who missed the Fever's last three games due to a lingering ankle issue, also made her comeback to help Indiana secure an impressive 102-88 victory over the defending champions. There's no denying that it was Clark who stole the show after the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year exploded for a season-high 32 points. Photos and videos of Clark's awe-inspiring performance have been making their rounds on social media, with Clark herself even posting a few of her favorite pictures on Instagram. In true Caitlin Clark fashion, the 23-year-old could not help but highlight a rather forgettable moment involving Cunningham during their win against the Liberty. One of Clark's photos features the former Iowa star hoisting a shot from beyond the three-point line. Cunningham can also be seen in the background of the photo, as the veteran was down on the ground. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8) watching form the Smith/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Clark tagged Cunningham in the picture and asked, "Bro u good?" Advertisement Clark's concern drew a one-word response from Cunningham. "No," she responded via her Instagram stories. Despite her reply here, Cunningham was, in fact, "good" after this play. She carried on after momentarily hitting the deck and ended up finishing with five points, four rebounds, a steal, and one three-pointer in 25 minutes off the bench. Cunningham is no superstar, but there's no denying that she will be an important piece for the Fever moving forward. At this point, Indiana is just happy to get her back out there. Former Chicago Sky Star Leaves No Doubt on Her Opinion of Caitlin Clark

Former Chicago Sky Star Leaves No Doubt on Her Opinion of Caitlin Clark originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark grabbed the attention of the basketball world on Saturday as she made her highly anticipated comeback following a three-week injury layoff. Advertisement Clark made up for lost time by going off for a season-high 32 points with seven triples to lead the Indiana Fever to a statement win against the defending champions New York Liberty, 102-88. Clark's performance resonated throughout the WNBA. So much so that even Minnesota Lynx All-Star guard Courtney Williams could not help but comment on Clark's incredible outing. A video of Williams, who suited up for the Chicago Sky for one season in 2023, is currently making its rounds on social media. In it, the 31-year-old veteran reacts to Clark's performance against New York, while also calling out the haters. "I ain't gonna lie, Sabrina [Ionescu] was cooking, but Caitlin was cooking, bro," Williams told her Lynx teammate Natisha Hiedeman. "Go look at her stat line, bro. Advertisement "Now, when I was in the chat and I said Caitlin make them girls different, y'all was in the chat talking. ... They was in the chat hating." Williams then touched on how the Fever struggled in the five games that Clark was out--Indiana went 2-3 during that stretch--as the Lynx star looked back on her previous statement about how Clark makes Indiana a much better squad. "... That girl make that team different," Williams continued. "And everybody was in the chat hating, and I said, 'All right, bro.' And now look what I say." Minnesota Lynx guard Courtney Williams during a game. Matt Krohn-Imagn Images Williams has been in the WNBA for 10 years now, and she's had the opportunity to play with and against a lot of stars in the league. She's witnessed firsthand what Clark brings to the table, too, which is why she has such a high opinion on the Fever guard. Advertisement Williams has been around the block quite a bit, as well. The Lynx are now her fifth team over the past decade. One of her stops was in Chicago, but this was a year before Clark entered the league in 2024. Williams also missed out on playing alongside Clark's biggest rival, Angel Reese, with the Sky. Her one-year deal with Chicago came to an end right before the Sky selected Reese as the No. 7 pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft.
