King Charles' startling question to David Beckham two weeks before knighthood
Football icon David Beckham's long wait for a knighthood is finally over and it seemed he knew for some time as King Charles asked a very cryptic question last month
David Beckham's wishes have finally come true as King Charles is making him a Sir in his Birthday Honours. After years of waiting and trying, the former England footballer, 50, will soon be able to add the title to his name.
He was bypassed for a knighthood by the late Queen for decades, sparking much speculation over the years as to why he hadn't picked up the title. Year after year, David had been notably absent from the honours list.
In 2013, it seemed his chances were dashed when explosive emails were leaked where he reportedly lashed out at the Honours Committee for not including him, referring to them as "unappreciative c***s."
However, the tables have finally turned for David and he will finally get his honour next week. It seems he knew about the move for a while as King Charles ' cryptic comment to David now makes sense.
The pair met each other at the Chelsea Flower Show last month alongside Queen Camilla, where a huge hint was dropped. During their meeting, King Charles asked: 'You got it, didn't you?' David replied: 'It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind.'
Ex-royal butler Paul Burrell said last year that David shouldn't hold his breath for a knighthood citing three key reasons. Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Paul explained: "We haven't seen [ David Beckham knighted] yet because A, he's not old enough and B, he hasn't earned his stripes yet and C, he's still in a very commercial world."
Paul added: "He's obviously been fast tracked for a knighthood, but not just yet and they're keeping him just dangling for a while. Because, you know, they're waiting to see what happens.
"I think he is an excellent ambassador, not only for charitable foundations, but for our country. I think he's shown his worth, and I'm expecting it. Of course it's going to happen. The question is, when."
He explained it was all just a matter of time for David and shared: "When will the King finally say it's time for David to receive his knighthood? I think he has to put some more work into the King's Trust, and I think he'll be seen many more times with the King and William before that honour comes his way."
It seems Paul was completely right as just a little time later, David has now secured the elusive title. David's representative slammed the 2013 email reports, accusing them of being misleading and based on manipulated content.
At the time, it was claimed he was particularly incensed by opera singer Katherine Jenkins receiving an honour, allegedly retorting: "Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops. F****** joke."
A close pal of Beckham later spoke to the Mirror about the incident, revealing that although David regretted the messages, they were sent "in the heat of the moment". The friend said: "Genuinely, he wasn't as vitriolic as that, but you do say some things in private and in the heat of the moment.
"To be honest, he does feel that he has given so much to his country. And sometimes you say things in private that anyone would say and you don't really mean it. While he was frustrated in those emails, he was over it the moment he sent them. Getting the knighthood is not what his work is about. He doesn't care if he gets a knighthood or not."

Amy Hart's heartbreaking fertility struggle as she tries for second baby
Love Island's Amy Hart has revealed that while she and husband Sam Rason are trying for another baby, she has faced a secret fertility struggle - admitting it's 'hard' to talk about. Amy Hart has admitted that while she'd 'love' more children, she's struggling to conceive this time around due to a fertility struggle. The former Love Island star, w ho already shares son Stanley with husband Sam Rason, has shared that doctors have said her BMI is higher than optimum for getting pregnant, meaning she is now trying to lose weight in order to become a mum again. 31-year-old Amy rose to fame on the dating show in 2019 and is hosting the Love Island Podcast again this year. She explained to Mirror: "I'd love more children. We're trying at the moment. It's obviously not been as simple as it was with Stanley, but I'm manifesting and doing all the right things. !I'm doing intermittent fasting to try and lose some weight, because though my BMI is not crazy high, it's higher than what's recommended for the optimum weight for getting pregnant." She continued: "I feel like at the moment it's quite hard to talk about online. Once, hopefully, I have some good news, then I'll be able to share more and help others." During the exclusive interview, below, Amy also discussed how she is balancing life as a mum and the new series of Love Island, which kicks off on Monday. Amy, how are you? Busy, balancing work and mum life? You know, I like to try and be two people – I don't like to blur the lines of work and mum life. I like to keep my days with Stanley work-free and the days I am working, my family or my husband's family help out. My childcare arrangements are a bit crazy but Stanley has a great network of people. The other day I said to him, 'Who's your best friend?' And he was like, 'Auntie Jane!' Do you feel pressure to portray motherhood in a certain way online? No, I'm quite lucky in that Stanley is quite straightforward. People think that I don't show real motherhood, and I'm like, 'Well I'm showing my motherhood.' Because I chose not to show him crying, having a tantrum, not showing him if he ever went to the hospital, and people say that's not real life. I'm like, 'I just have boundaries with my child.' My guiding light is, if my husband put this on his story of me, would I be annoyed? If the answer is yes, I don't put it there. What's the funniest thing Stanley has said or done? Oh, it's probably more that he just has to run everywhere he goes, full pelt! And his speech is so funny. Everything is 'that's so cool' or 'oh goody'. He just keeps us laughing, constantly. And how's married life with Sam? It feels just like it did before, we both feel quite free. We are in such a good place, we have such a good time. We always say that we both knew we would get married at some point, but we never thought that we would meet someone we got on so well with. I'd love more children. We're trying at the moment. It's obviously not been as simple as it was with Stanley, but I'm manifesting and doing all the right things. I'm doing intermittent fasting to try and lose some weight, because though my BMI is not crazy high, it's higher than what's recommended for the optimum weight for getting pregnant. Any behind-the-scenes secrets from working on the Love Island podcast? I've heard it's gonna be the most dramatic series yet. I'm a superfan, so I almost, don't predict what happens, but I'm like, 'Oh I love this part.' But apparently that's all going to change this year, it's going to be completely different. We watch the episode live, so there's no way we can know about the drama ahead of the podcast. When we go on the pod, all our live reactions are fresh. What do you think of this year's islanders, who's your favourite? Well, there's a former British Airways hostess who started at Gatwick just like me, so that's really special. I think we know some of the same people. We love an air hostess. I'm really looking forward to seeing her. Are you still friends with islanders from your season? I love Amber [Gill], and everyone else, it's a bit like work colleagues. I don't live in London. I sort of have my own life down here. I love having a chat and seeing their news on Instagram, and when we see each other it's like no time has passed, but we don't live in each other's pockets. That's just life and part of growing up. How would you describe your confidence now compared to when you were on Love Island? I was about to jokingly say, I'm a lot heavier! But talking about confidence, I was only 57 kilos when I was on Love Island , and I was very self-conscious of my body, still. I wouldn't wear bandage dresses because I didn't think I had the body for it, whereas now, if I like a dress, then I will wear it. I also want pictures with my little boy on holiday, in the sea and on the beach. I don't want there to be a lot of, like, missing pictures and videos of his childhood, because I was a size 14. Making memories is more important.

Freddy Brazier announces he's going to rehab to 'get clean' after sad fallout with dad
Freddy Brazier, 20, has revealed he's going to rehab in Spain to get clean after battling a smoking addiction since age 12 Freddy Brazier has announced he is heading to rehab in Spain as he battles a long-standing addiction. The 20-year-old, youngest son of Jeff Brazier and the late Jade Goody, revealed he has been addicted to smoking since the age of 12 and is now taking steps to 'get clean.' The move follows reports of a strained relationship with his father Jeff, leading Freddy to leave the family home and move in with his maternal grandmother, Jackiey Budden, Mirror reports. On Instagram, Freddy opened up about his decision to seek treatment, saying: "I've decided that I will be cutting down and I want to go to Rehab In Marbs as I feel if I'm in England I won't take getting clean seriously." He described smoking as a "bad coping mechanism that turned into an addiction, something I relied on and something that made me feel sane and some what OK." Yet now, Freddy is determined to turn his life around. "I've found a boxing club and a rehabilitation centre. Ive found someone I want to get to know and I'm happy. I got a good bunch of friends and I [want to] get out and enjoy myself." His goal is clear. "I want to be clean so I can live happily and have healthy relationships with people and be there for all of my family rather then feeling like I'm in the middle and have to choose a side." Freddy also reflected on his struggle to feel loved, admitting, "I haven't been able to feel loved properly as I have never loved myself and it starts now." He hopes to embrace a new chapter, sharing: "I want to play football and take up boxing I want to be happy and be in a healthy relationship and have a healthy relationship with my Nana and my father." The young man ended his heartfelt message with a plea for privacy and understanding: "Every day is a new story about me and my Nana and father. It's getting boring now. Mind your business and have a good rest of the week x." Concerns about Freddy's wellbeing have grown this week after news emerged that he had moved out of his father's home to live with Jackiey Budden. Freddy and Jeff had previously been seen sharing a close bond, notably on the BBC series Race Across the World last year. However, their relationship now appears fractured, with Freddy growing closer to his late mother Jade's mother. Reports say Jeff is devastated by the situation and is considering legal action to prevent Freddy and his grandmother from spending time together. Defying his father's wishes, Freddy has continued to share photos with his grandmother on social media. One recent post alarmed fans as he listed the things he hates about himself, including his 'relationship with weed,' 'step parents,' and his inability to love properly. He also mentioned having 'family issues.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. The TikTok video was shared just a day before what would have been Jade Goody's 44th birthday. The late Big Brother star died aged 27 in 2009 after a battle with cervical cancer. Supporters flooded Freddy's post with messages of encouragement. One TikTok user wrote, "Ah man this is gonna be sad to watch," while another said, "Go home son, this is not what mum wanted for you sweetheart." A third added, "Sending you love Fred! Watched you in Race Across the World & you're such a decent lad with so much potential." The tension within the family extends beyond his father. Freddy was absent from his older brother Bobby's 22nd birthday party on Monday, an event reportedly marked by a "sadness" due to his absence. Bobby was said to have spent time with Jeff and his stepmother Kate instead. Freddy was just four when Jade passed away. Since then, Jeff has dedicated himself to raising Freddy and Bobby, striving to provide stability after such a traumatic loss.
