Charles Barkley eviscerates Knicks for lack of post-Tom Thibodeau plan: ‘Stupidest damn people'
One NBA icon is completely befuddled by the Knicks' head coaching situation.
New York, which fired Tom Thibodeau after losing the Eastern Conference finals in six games, has been on the hunt for a new head coach but has been denied by at least five teams — including the Mavericks for permission to talk to coach Jason Kidd.
Well, Charles Barkley, never shy about sharing his opinion on anything, called out the Knicks on Wednesday night before the Pacers' 116-107 win over the Thunder in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Barkley said he believes the Knicks needed a set plan in place after firing Thibodeau, and that they didn't have one.
'The Knicks gotta be the stupidest damn people in the world,' Barkley said on NBA TV. 'You don't fire no good coach like that and don't have a plan. I mean, Thibs did a hell of a job, obviously something's going on there. … You've gotta have a plan, man. … I don't know what the hell they're going to do.'
Along with Kidd, the Knicks have been denied permission to speak with Ime Udoka, Chris Finch, Quin Snyder and Billy Donovan.
Charles Barkley called out the Knicks for their process.
Awful Announcing/X
The Post's Stefan Bondy previously reported that former Villanova coach Jay Wright is not interested in unretiring, while UConn coach Dan Hurley has indicated he does not want to leave Storrs.
Barkley is not alone in his criticism of the Knicks, as former Nets bench boss P.J. Carlesimo called out the club for its handling of the situation.

'The Knicks always think they're smarter than everybody else, that's the Knick philosophy,' Carlesimo said Tuesday on the 'Ryen Russillo podcast.'
'They think they're different and we're smarter than all these other teams and we know what we're doing, and I would say they're normally the opposite. They're often times their own worst enemy.'
Whomever the Knicks hire, they will be taking over a star-studded team that fell just two wins shy of the NBA Finals.

Magic Johnson makes expectations clear for Luka Doncic
The Luka Doncic era has begun for the Los Angeles Lakers. While LeBron James, presumably, has at least one season left with the team, the pressure and expectations of leading the team to success have shifted over to Doncic. In six seasons and change with the Dallas Mavericks, he reached the Western Conference Finals twice and the NBA Finals once. While that may be considered somewhat satisfactory for that franchise, things are much different when they play for the Lakers, a franchise that has won 17 world championships. Magic Johnson, who led the Lakers to five of those championships, made it clear during an appearance on ESPN's "First Take" that the standard of excellence for Doncic in L.A. is the Larry O'Brien Trophy. "Luka gotta understand this is not Dallas. To your point, Kobe [Bryant], superstar who led us, Shaq (Shaquille O'Neal) led us to a championship, LeBron led us. And that's what's missing here. We shouldn't have to tell you to be in shape, you should have been about that, right? Especially when you're a superstar. So this is gonna be an important year for the Lakers, important offseason for the Lakers." So far this offseason, Doncic has looked noticeably thinner, which is certainly a good sign. Assuming the Lakers improve the rest of their roster, it will now be on Doncic to lead the way, both on and off the court, along with James, as they continue to seek their 18th NBA title. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle It won't be enough for Doncic to continue to put up insane numbers — he needs to consistently deliver in crunch time, something he didn't do enough of since joining the team, and especially during the postseason. That is what true Lakers greats such as Bryant, O'Neal, Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did in the past and what James did during the franchise's last championship season five years ago.

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 17 - Rashad Vaughn (2018)
The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans". Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today. Advertisement To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 19th of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 17, which has has had a total of seven players wear the number in the history of the team. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native would play parts of the first three seasons of his pro career with the Bucks, coming to an end when he was dealt to Brooklyn in 2018. His stay with the team would span a single game before he was dealt again, this time to the Orlando Magic for his last stop at the NBA level. 🚨 Second-half explosion sees NYCFC run riot over Atlanta United
Three goals in goals in four minutes in the second-half saw NYCFC thrash Atlanta United to kick off the final weekend of MLS action before the international break. Scorers: Moralez 44', Bakrar 55', Wolf 57', 59' Advertisement While the two teams looked set for a first-half stalemate, you never need to wait too long for Atlanta United to capitulate these days, and they did so when a bad Brooks Lennon back-ass allowed Maxi Moralez to open the scoring. But the NYCFC explosion came after the break when the hosts scored three goals in four minutes, two of which came from Hannes Wolf just before the hour mark. The best of the bench was Mounsef Bakrar's screamer to start the flurry however. The latest sucker-punch for Atlanta sees the Five Stripes remain in 13th in the Eastern Conference, while NYCFC moved into the top-five with the win. 📸 Ira L. Black - 2025 Getty Images
