Manchester City handed major injury blow as midfielder ruled out for up to three weeks confirms Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City midfielder Claudio Echeverri will be sidelined for up to three weeks with an ankle injury.
The Argentina international made a huge impression on supporters during his full debut for the club on matchday two of the FIFA Club World Cup group stage, securing his first start for Manchester City since arriving from River Plate last January.

Having made two brief, but promising, appearances for the club during the tail-end of the last season, Sunday night's start against Al Ain was the first real opportunity for Echeverri to show exactly why Manchester City have put so much faith into his talents.
And despite sustaining what appeared to be a momentary fitness scare earlier in the first-half, the 19-year-old continued to step-up to a direct free-kick just outside of the Al Ain penalty area, to fire home and double Manchester City's advantage.
But by the time half-time would come, it would be the end of the night for the midfielder, as he was withdrawn with Phil Foden coming on in his place, before being spotted on the training ground on Tuesday on crutches and wearing a protective boot around his right foot.
Now, speaking to reporters ahead of Manchester City's final group stage game of the FIFA Club World Cup, Pep Guardiola has confirmed the severity of Claudio Echeverri's ankle injury sustained earlier this week.

'He has some problems in the ankle. It will be two weeks, three weeks out. We feel so sorry for him, from all of us,' Guardiola confirmed around Echeverri's recovery timeframe.
He continued, 'But yeah, we're going to play new players, and in the next game new players, too… And in the second-half [vs Juventus], too.'
The Manchester City manager continued on the subject of his line-up against the Italian giants by hinting at significant alterations set up for the second-half of the contest at the Camping World Stadium.
'I've made the selection tomorrow, the line-up thinking in the second-half, because with these [weather] conditions we're not ready to play in the rhythm we're playing for 90 minutes,' Guardiola explained. 'So, hopefully we could make and do more substitutions, but no it's fine!'

With attendances having been discussed heavily at this summer's tournament, and very limited crowds in some games involving lesser teams, Pep Guardiola hopes to see a significant crowd at his side's heavyweight clash on Thursday night.
But the City head coach also had some words of advice for those planning on attending as he told reporters, 'Hopefully we can do a good game and the people can come! The only thing I can advise the people is to bring a lot, a lot of water, hats, towels on the necks, because I think it will be tough!'
Manchester City come into the clash with Juventus knowing that only a victory will be enough to secure themselves a first-place finish in Group G, and a match-up against the runners-up of Group H in the last-16 of the Club World Cup.

Pep Guardiola issues 'niggles' update on Rodri as recovery continues from knee injury
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has issued further encouragement concerning the ongoing recovery of Rodri at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer. The Spain international and the current holder of the Ballon d'Or award is firmly into the final stretch of his long-standing recovery process from the serious injury that ruled him out of the majority of the last campaign. Advertisement Sustaining a double knee injury and ACL damage during last season's 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in September, follow-up surgery and rehabilitation saw Rodri sidelined until the end of May. But having further stepped up his recovery and competitive action on the pitch at this summer's FIFA Club World Cup, there is a strong hope that the 29-year-old can enter into the 2025/26 European season ready to start matches once again for Manchester City. Before then, the defensive midfielder will look to increase his time spent on the pitch for Pep Guardiola at the Club World Cup, having registered around 70 minutes of action combined against Wydad AC and Al Ain in the first contests of the tournament. Now, speaking to reporters ahead of Manchester City's final group stage game of the tournament, manager Guardiola has issued the latest on the recovering Rodri after another appearance on the pitch for the club last time out. Advertisement 'Rodri can play, cannot play; of course, he's not ready for 90 minutes but he played the last game 30 minutes, 35 minutes,' Guardiola told reporters. 'So he's making steps forward,' he continued. 'In the last three or four days he didn't have some, not problems, niggles that sometimes you have. 'But he's happy that we can add minutes to him.' Following the latest comments from the Manchester City manager, it appears as though the Spain international will once again not start in the club's important encounter against Juventus this week, despite a win needed for top spot in the group. As such, the Catalan head coach could turn towards a range of options for the deep-lying midfield role, including their new signing Tijjani Reijnders – who excelled in his full debut for the club on matchday one against Wydad AC. Other options could also include January recruit Nico Gonzalez, or more seasoned options such as Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva, both of whom have already been called upon at this summer's tournament.

Liverpool forward agrees Bournemouth move
The Instagram page posted on their account about Cornelius Akaunu, who they claim has agreed a move to Bournemouth. This agreement was confirmed by the player's own Instagram profile, which now includes Bournemouth's account in his bio to confirm that he belongs to the Cherries. Advertisement Akaunu is a talented young forward in Liverpool's academy. Only 16-years-old, he has been mostly playing for the club's U17 side and has been at the club since U9 level. Over the course of the last few months, it has been apparent that he was not going to stay at the club. Akaunu went on trials to Arsenal and Tottenham while still at Liverpool towards the end of last season. But it seems like Bournemouth have won the race for his signature. One thing that's guaranteed is that the pathway to the first team will certainly be a lot easier for Akaunu at Bournemouth than it would have been at Liverpool. Advertisement That will now be the young attacker's goal, although initially he will likely be playing for the club's U18 and U21 sides. From Liverpool's perspective, losing Akaunu is a blow. You never want to lose a player who has been at the academy since U9 level. However, it's very clear that he sees his future away from the club, for now.
