Min announces military training from Class 1 in state-run schools
MUMBAI: State school education minister Dada Bhuse announced on Monday that military training will be made mandatory in state-run schools from the first grade to instil patriotism, loyalty for the nation, a sense of discipline, exercise and organisation skills among students. Bhuse declared the plan after a meeting with education officers in Nashik.
'There are about 2.5 lakh ex-servicemen in the state who will be inducted to implement this programme,' he said, adding sports teachers, National Cadet Corps (NCC) and scout guide instructors will also impart military education to the students.
The idea stemmed from feedback of 48 zilla parishad school teachers who recently returned from a study tour to Singapore, impressed with 'the way the concept of Nation First was integrated into the school education system there', said Bhuse.
Bhuse said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and ex-servicemen welfare minister Shambhuraj Desai 'have evinced interest in the move'.
He added, apart from the training, health cards will be introduced for students from government schools. 'If a disease is diagnosed during the check-up, the concerned student will be provided treatment under government schemes,' he said.
Criticising Bhuse's move, Mahendra Ganpule, former vice president of the state principals association, said, 'There is no need to introduce this kind of training, as our current curriculum already them at various levels. Instead of providing good infrastructure and teachers, the department is busy with populist announcements.' He called for discussions with child psychologists before implementing the new plan.

Telangana: MoS Defence Sanjay Seth visits Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 6 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, visited Military College of Electronics & Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) on Friday. He was briefed by the Commandant, Lt Gen Neeraj Varshney, VSM, about the training activities at the institution. He interacted with the soldiers and visited the new Drone Training Lab, 'Drone Alaya', and discussed ways and means to develop indigenous anti-drone systems to prevent Kamikaze attacks. He witnessed the new projects of staff on radars in super high-altitude areas and appreciated the work of EME technicians in Operation Sindoor and MCEME's initiatives in promoting Atmanirbharta in defence technologies along with MSMEs & Startups. Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth also planted a tree on MCEME's premises. Earlier in the day, Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, visited Ordnance Factory Medak in Telangana. Seth was received by Sanjay Dwivedi, CMD/AVNL, in the presence of Satyabrata Mukherjee, Director/Operations. As per a release, Sanjay Seth inspected the production facilities and enquired about the production schedules. The Union Minister was shown all the products manufactured at OF Medak. He appreciated and expressed satisfaction at the preparedness of the factory. Along with Raghunandan Rao, Member of Parliament, Medak took a tank ride. Both the dignitaries planted saplings to mark World Environment Day. The representatives of the Unions and Associations submitted a memorandum to the MoS. Several states have already agreed to support this plan and have committed to fast-tracking the necessary training infrastructure, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence. 'He also announced the planned expansion of NCC by Three lakh cadets across the country with several States already extending their concurrence and committing to fast-track the necessary training infrastructure,' the MoD statement read. 'National Cadet Corps (NCC) is an organisation that instils the feeling of nationalism, service... PM Modi has resolved that the number of cadets in the NCC should be between 17-20 lakhs... CG sharpens its strategy to combat cattle smuggling
Raipur: In a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief minister and Home minister Vijay Sharma at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan on Thursday, the Chhattisgarh govt sharpened its strategy to combat the growing menace of cattle smuggling, calling for swift, coordinated, and more aggressive enforcement. The meeting saw the participation of senior state officials, police representatives, and district-level nodal officers. Addressing the media after the meeting, Home minister Sharma emphasized that cattle smuggling is not merely a crime, but an organized criminal activity that must be tackled using the full force of the law. He underlined the urgency of effective implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued on July 15, 2024, and demanded measurable progress from the officials present. Seizure and Auction of Vehicles to Be Fast-Tracked Minister Sharma issued clear directives to accelerate the seizure of vehicles used in cattle smuggling and ensure a transparent auction process. He questioned district officials about the number of vehicles confiscated, cases where no action was taken, and whether due process was followed at the collector level. Sharma also made it clear that in the next review meeting, every district must submit detailed reports on cases filed, seizures made, auctions conducted, and actions taken under strict laws like SAFEMA and NSA (National Security Act). Sharma proposed involving youth associated with cow welfare groups and the NCC (National Cadet Corps) in vigilance efforts. He suggested issuing official passes to facilitate better communication between these volunteers and law enforcement. He instructed that a list be prepared of genuinely dedicated cow protectors and volunteers to recognize their contributions and boost their morale. Tech-Driven Vigilance and Closing Gaps in Enforcement Sharma emphasized the need for smarter surveillance, especially given that traffickers often bypass highway checkpoints by moving cattle via footpaths or alternative rural routes. "We need to understand the entire supply chain," he said, stressing the need to build a tech-enabled alert system based on inputs received via WhatsApp groups and personal networks from local cow protectors. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Manoj Pingua and others. The Chhattisgarh govt, through these measures, is positioning itself to not only curb cattle smuggling but also to transform the enforcement ecosystem — using both strict policing and community participation. As Sharma put it, "Only a tough and well-organized approach can stop this crime."
