DPM Fadillah begins official visit to Uzbekistan, to address UN forum in Samarkand
TASHKENT, June 21 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof arrived in Tashkent, Uzbekistan early Saturday morning to begin his official working visit to the republic.
Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, was welcomed by Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Energy, Azizkhoja Qobilov.
Also present were Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin and Malaysia's Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Ilham Tuah Illias.
While in Uzbekistan, Fadillah is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and hold a meeting with Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov.
He is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the United Nations Public Service Forum 2025 in Samarkand, where he will touch on Malaysia's best practices and innovations in public service.
Fadillah will be in Uzbekistan until June 24 before continuing his working visit to Russia until June 28. — Bernama

MOSCOW: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today began his official working visit in the Russian capital with a bilateral meeting with his counterpart Alexei Overchuk. Fadillah's working visit to Russia is a continuation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Russia on May 13-16 this year, aimed at deepening, enhancing, exploring new cooperation between the two countries. Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Russia have been established since 1967. In 2024, Russia is Malaysia's ninth largest trading partner among European countries, with trade value reaching RM11.46 billion (US$2.48 billion). Malaysia's main exports to Russia include electrical and electronics products, machinery, equipment and spare parts, as well as processed food.

Speaker quashes talk of more Parliament seats via S'wak assembly

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Sarawak assembly speaker Asfia Awang Nassar has quashed rumours that the state government plans to increase the number of parliamentary and state seats in the state through a bill tabled in the legislative assembly. Asfia said changes to the number of parliamentary and state seats in Sarawak fell under the purview of the Election Commission, not the state assembly, The Borneo Post reported. 'The state assembly doesn't (have any say). It's the EC. It's a federal power. It's not the state assembly that creates (new constituencies),' he was quoted as saying. This follows a Dayak Daily report on rumours that the special Sarawak assembly sitting on July 7 would see the tabling of a bill to increase the number of parliamentary seats to 46 and state seats to 99. Sarawak currently has 31 parliamentary seats and 82 state seats. There has been a growing push for Sabah and Sarawak to be allocated one-third of the seats in Parliament, as per the Malaysia Agreement 1963. However, in November, deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said the two East Malaysian states could only be given one-third of the Dewan Rakyat seats after the next general election. Asfia did not dismiss the possibility that the redelineation of parliamentary and state seats could be brought up at the special sitting, but maintained that any execution of this would come under the EC's jurisdiction. He also said he had yet to receive any bills from the state government. 'I have not received any bills yet. Once I receive the bill, I shall call for a press conference and brief (the media on) what this is all about,' he said.

Fadillah Yusof arrives in Moscow for Russia working visit
MOSCOW: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof arrived here at 7.20 pm local time on Tuesday to begin his official working visit to Russia. Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, was received by Malaysia's Ambassador to Russia, Datuk Cheong Loon Lai. Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin is also part of the delegation on the five-day visit. The Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart, Alexei Overchuk. The bilateral meeting will also be attended by Russia's Deputy Minister of Energy, Evgeny Petrovich Grabchak, and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Vladimir Ilichev. Fadillah is also scheduled to make a technical visit to the ROSATOM Nuclear Power Plant in St Petersburg to observe the latest nuclear technologies and international safety standards. In addition, he will hold a meeting with ROSATOM director-general Alexey Likhachev to gain deeper insights into the institutional, technical and regulatory landscape of Russia's nuclear energy development. Fadillah's visit will conclude with a meet-and-greet session with the Malaysian diaspora in Russia. The Deputy Prime Minister will be in Russia until June 28.
