It was a memorable moment for Karagiannidis, who not only flew the SA flag high but also her family name. Caitey is the daughter of renowned EFC and IMMAF official Bobby Karagiannidis and sibling to IMMAF Africa 2024 champion JJ Karagiannidis.
Mzansi's Caitey Karagiannidis broke the 'golden' ice for her nation after beating Cameroon's Adjanie Benjamin Zanga in their Youth Women's Strawweight (52.2kg) category in Angola's capital city of Luanda.
Team Angola once again shone on the medals table, bagging 14 medallions (6 gold, five silver, and three bronze), followed by Team South Africa, with gold (3) and two silver medals.
Day two of the IMMAF Africa Championships introduced the Youth A (16 - 17 years old) division to the Pavilhão Multiusos do Kilamba in Angola yesterday.

'I feel amazing. It does not even feel real,' said Karagiannidis.
'This is an incredible feeling and moment for me. I am excited to see my brother win a golden medal, too. Let's go,' referring to her brother JJ, who will compete today.
Caiden Bouwer was the next South African to win gold after beating his teammate Dante Damico in their Youth Men's Lightweight (70.3kg) final.
Another well-known brand within African MMA and the EFC, Referee Wiekus Swart, will also be smiling from ear to ear as his son Caleb stood tallest on the podium in his Youth Men's Welterweight division after beating Angola's Obedy Sebastiao Antonio in their final.
In the Youth Men's Featherweight division (65.8kg), Leandro Freitas bagged the silver medal after facing Angola's Manuel Domingos in their final fight.
The 2024 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation's youth athlete of the year, Mayra Lemos, showcased her skill and potential once again on the continental platform when she beat Cameroon's Yelena Nkoassan in their Youth Women's Bantamweight (61.2kg) weight class.
Lemos has repeatedly proven that she can achieve great things on the global stage.
It was also heartwarming to see the growth of Cameroonian and Mauritian MMA.
Cameroon continues to become a familiar fixture on the podium with each passing event, and Mauritius secured their first-ever gold medal at this tournament when Aveer Jootun beat Dinis Dinga Bravo in their Youth B Men's (72kg) final.

PSL transfer news: Rapoo, Zwane, Saleng, Appollis, Shalulile

There's plenty of transfer action blossoming in the PSL, spearheaded by Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs. The PSL big three have wasted no time in their pursuit of top talent, with each club linked to some serious firepower, such as AmaZulu star Tshepang Moremi. Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are in the race for SuperSport left-back Neo Rapoo . . Midfielder Samkelo Zwane is reportedly exploring options after recording just thirteen appearances (across all competitions) this season. Insiders believe the 23-year-old is eyeing a loan move rather than a permanent exit. is reportedly exploring options after recording just thirteen appearances (across all competitions) this season. Mamelodi Sundowns have offered three-times PSL winner Peter Shalulile a contract extension. A decision from the player has yet to be made. Rapoo is fast becoming one of the PSL's brightest prospects, and such a tag usually (and has on this occasion) ignites interest from one of South Africa's biggest clubs – this time, he has both the Sowetan giants after his services. 'Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are both keen to sign SuperSport United left-back Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,' an inside source revealed. 'His performances as he led South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title earned him interest in Scandinavia and the Gulf but sources as Matsatsansa have confirmed Chiefs and Pirates are both seriously after the player who is seen as future senior national team left-back.' 'With Orlando Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their interest on the promising full-back comes as no surprise, while Chiefs are looking to remedy a position that has plagued them in the last couple of seasons.' Markram's great moment may be SA's greatest innings

Was Aiden Markram's 136 at Lord's, the greatest innings by a South African player? Graeme Smith's 154 not out against England at Edgbaston in 2008 that won a series for South Africa in that country for the first time in 43 years has generally been regarded as the greatest innings by a Proteas batter. Other notable mentions would include Hashim Amla's 311 at the Oval in 2012, AB de Villiers' 126 against Australia at St George's Park in 2018, while the great Jacques Kallis made 162 out of a total of 332 against a rampant England attack at Kingsmead in 2004, to help the Proteas to a draw. De Villiers and Smith, who were at Lord's to witness Markram's magnificence first-hand that secured the Proteas' five-wicket victory against Australia in the World Test Championship final, are likely to happily accept being pushed down the list. Given the occasion, the opposition and the state of the match when Markram started the innings, it is undoubtedly one of the great knocks seen at Lord's.

Kaizer Chiefs news: Congolese attacker and Bafana winger

In under two years, Kaizer Chiefs have signed two attacking players from the Democratic Republic of Congo. It started with the striker/winger Christian Saile, and then in January with the lanky winger Glody Lilepo. According to this new report, Kaizer Chiefs now have eyes on a Congolese attacking midfielder named Maxi Ngenzeli from Young Africans in Tanzania. Ngenzeli will not be new to coach Nasreddine Nabi. The Tunisian mentor fine-tuned the goal-scoring midfielder in the 2021/22 season at Yanga. Junior Khanye: 'Tau can't goto Chiefs or Pirates' 'At the moment the club has not yet signed some of the players who they want nor those they are looking at,' an insider told Soccer Laduma . 'It's believed that they are spreading the search wide so that they can get the kind of players they really need this season… Full story here.
