One of the biggest hits ever seen at the Principality Stadium occurred at the weekend.
The tackle in question took place in the English Premiership match between Bristol Bears and Bath Rugby at the Principality Stadium.
With 47 minutes played, Bath scrum-half Louis Schreuder fed the ball into 22-year-old fly-half Ciaran Donoghue, who got absolutely levelled by Fijian number eight Viliame Mata.
Young Donoghue was sent flying back with jaw-dropping force, with slow motion replays showing Mata literally folding his opponent in the tackle. Replays prompted a huge cacophony of 'Ooos' from the crowd, who were stunned. Join WalesOnline Rugby's WhatsApp Channel here to get the breaking news sent straight to your phone for free
The TNT Sports commentary team of Alastair Eykyn and Jamie Roberts were blown away as Sam Warburton also watched on.
"Let's see this monumental shot," began Eykyn. "Banjaxed!"

"Thank you very much!," added Roberts. "That is a great, great tackle. He's got the ball away. You know it's coming, don't you, Sam (Warburton)! You're about to pass a ball and you know you've got someone haring at you."

Most were blown away by the tackle, while others praised Donoghue for getting back up straight away and focusing on the game.
"Got the hit, fell down and his first concern was if his pass reached the player. That's the sport we love," said one.
The final score was 36-14 to Bristol Bears, thanks to tries from Gabriel Ibitoye, Rich Lane, Gabriel Oghre, Fitz Harding, Will Capon and Mata himself.
Of course, this isn't the first time that 'Bill' Mata has flattened someone in the Premiership.
Just last month, you may remember England international Henry Slade taking a very similar shot from the Fiji star, prompting a strong reaction from Warburton, who was on commentary. Watch that tackle by clicking here.
"My goodness. I haven't seen many of those. That is massive. We're hearing now that the tackle is fine," said Warburton.

"I think that is one of the biggest hits I've seen, that was massive."
The 'Big Day Out' event at the Principality Stadium was a huge success, with over 51,000 English fans packed inside the home of Welsh rugby.
It gave Cardiff a taste of what's to come, with both European rugby finals being played at the Principality Stadium. Bath play Lyon on May 23, with Northampton Saints v Bordeaux Begles on May 24.

New Motherwell boss can get a good look at us in packed pre-season, says star
Stephen O'Donnell reckons their programme is a good one Stephen O'Donnell hopes a packed pre-season schedule can give Motherwell's next manager a good idea of what he has to work with next season. The Fir Park club are yet to appoint a successor to Michael Wimmer, who unexpectedly returned to Germany for personal reasons. But Motherwell return for training on Wednesday, June 18, and they're booked in to return to Delden in the Netherlands for their pre-season camp seven days later. The Premier Sports Cup group stages kick off on July 12, with games at Clyde on the opening day, and at Stenhousemuir on July 19, with midweek home matches against Peterhead (July 15) and Morton (July 22). Motherwell last week announced they will round off their summer preparations with a friendly at home to German giants Hertha Berlin on Friday, July 25. O'Donnell reckons that's plenty to get stuck into, and can't wait. He said: 'I just saw the schedule the other day and I think [the Hertha Berlin friendly] is on the Friday after the last Tuesday game [in the Premier Sports Cup], so lots of games for a new manager to get to see his players and see what suits best. 'Hertha Berlin, I don't think you'll get much bigger challenges than that, so that will be a good one. 'More importantly there are cup games, and certainly if we get off to a flier and do well in that, it's a nice end to the pre-season, and hopefully it's off the back of a successful campaign. 'It's always a tough one for managers, when you're the Premiership team, and the others are right up for it, while you're trying to tweak things and adjust, so it becomes a strange position. 'It's good to get the games, you need the games anyway, and we approach them pretty seriously, so we should be in a good position, again. 'I would have been really keen to see how we did under the old manager, because he had started implementing his things, and hopefully bringing in one or two of his own players, but now that's not the case. 'The new manager has these games to get to know his players, in a system that suits him and the players, so it will be exciting. 'Hopefully we can be successful. We have a draw that has been kind to us, there are no big, long journeys. 'We can't complain, hopefully they're good games, good performances, and something to build on for the new season.' Fans won't have to wait long to learn the club's Premiership fixtures, with the schedule for that released on Friday, June 20.

Lorenzo Musetti avoids disqualification after kicking a ball at a line judge
In the second set of his quarter-final against American Frances Tiafoe, Musetti booted the ball in frustration and it hit the woman, standing about three metres away, in the chest. Tiafoe looked stunned at the other end of the court and gestured towards the umpire, who eventually gave Musetti a code violation. Lorenzo Musetti received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct after this incident 😳 #RolandGarros — TNT Sports (@tntsports) June 3, 2025 There were echoes of Novak Djokovic being defaulted at the 2020 US Open after accidentally hitting a female line judge with a ball. Tiafoe, the 15th seed, said: 'I mean, obviously he did that and nothing happened. I think that's comical, but it is what it is. 'Nothing happened, so there's nothing really to talk about. Obviously it's not consistent, so it is what it is.' Former player-turned broadcaster Rennae Stubbs wrote on X: 'Wow Musetti is very lucky to be still on court right now. You cannot kick a ball and it hit the lines person and not be defaulted.' Musetti, who reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year, won the match 6-2 4-6 7-5 6-2 to progress to the last four at Roland Garros for the first time. He said: 'Yeah, I was a little bit, honestly, scared, because I really didn't want to harm nobody, of course. Wow Musetti is VERY LUCKY to be still on court right now. You cannot kick a ball and it hit the lines person and not be defaulted. — Rennae Stubbs ♈️ (@rennaestubbs) June 3, 2025 'So I immediately went to the line umpire, and I of course said 'sorry', I apologise to everyone. 'It was right to have a warning, but I think the umpire saw that there was no intention about that, and that's why probably just, you know, let me continue my game.' The French Open is the only one of the four grand slams to still use line judges rather than electronic line calling. Former British number one Tim Henman was defaulted in a Wimbledon doubles match in 1995 when a ball he hit across the net after a point had finished struck a ball kid. Henman, part of TNT Sports and Eurosport's coverage of Roland Garros, said: 'By the letter of the law, if you hit or kick a ball away in frustration and it hits a ball boy, line judge, or umpire, that can be a disqualification. 'When you look at that, the umpire could have interpreted that as a disqualification. However, if Musetti was disqualified for that, Musetti would feel very unlucky and aggrieved. Friday awaits. Be there.#RolandGarros — Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) June 3, 2025 'When you're kicking a ball away, you've either got to be a better footballer and kick it in the right direction, or you are risking something like that.' Musetti will meet defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who steamrollered American 12th seed Tommy Paul 6-0 6-1 6-4 in another one-sided night match. 'I'm sorry you wanted to watch more tennis. I had to do my work,' Alcaraz told the Court Philippe-Chatrier crowd afterwards.

‘A lot of fun' – Harry Brook's England reign starts with West Indies whitewash
England claimed their first ODI series whitewash in three years – when they beat the Netherlands by an identical scoreline – after prevailing by seven wickets in a one-sided contest at the Oval. Jamie Smith's explosive 64 from 28 balls broke the back of a revised chase of 246 from 40 overs, with Brook's predecessor as skipper Jos Buttler getting them home with an unbeaten 41 off 20 deliveries. Get there safely in singles? 🤔 Nah, hit it out the ground to win the game! 💪 — England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 3, 2025 English white-ball cricket was in the doldrums after a dreadful Champions Trophy campaign which led to Buttler's resignation as skipper earlier this year but Brook has started on the right track. 'It's a hell of a lot of fun when you're enjoying it with a lot of mates,' said Brook, who will now turn his attention to the three-match T20 series that starts on Friday in Chester-le-Street. 'I think we've got such a good side. The depth in batting is amazing and then we've got a lot of skilful bowlers as well. I'm really looking forward to the future and seeing how it goes.' England were as dominant at Edgbaston last week as they were on Tuesday but they were off the boil at Sophia Gardens on Sunday, dropping four catches and fluffing two run-outs in a ragged fielding display. Jos Buttler his 41 from just 20 deliveries (Adam Davy/PA) Only an all-time great 166 not out from Joe Root got them out of jail but Brook believes how close-knit the group are can be emphasised by their reaction to how they fielded in Cardiff. 'I don't feel like we really deserved that win,' he reflected. 'Our fielding was a little bit sloppy. A few lads spoke up about it and said it wasn't good enough, which I think is a really good sign. 'But because we are so tight as a group, we've managed to scrape a victory there. Obviously, having Joe Root in your side is always a big help.' One of the big calls ahead of this series was Smith's promotion to open alongside Ben Duckett. The pair made ducks in Cardiff but rebounded with half-centuries as Duckett contributed 58 off 46 balls. Jamie Smith hit 10 fours and three sixes in his 28-ball-64 (Adam Davy/PA) Smith, who replaced Phil Salt as opener, averaged 17.63 after his first dozen ODI innings with a best of 49 but demonstrated the class that has made him an automatic selection for England's Test side. 'He's gone out there and and played extremely well, but he's not a slogger,' Brook added. 'He's playing proper shots, he's putting their bad balls away and he's putting them under immense pressure. 'We've seen in Test cricket how good he is. He knows how to bat. We want batters that can put their best balls under pressure, manipulate the field, and score big runs. 'He's going to have a good go at it at the top in one-day cricket and I think everybody's excited to see how he goes.' Rain reduced the match to 40-overs-per-side (Adam Davy/PA) The Windies had recovered from 28 for three and 154 for seven to post 251 for nine after arriving to the ground late because of traffic which – combined with a 95-minute rain delay – meant a reduced game. Adil Rashid was the pick of the England bowlers with three for 40, with Brook quick to hail his evergreen Yorkshire team-mate. 'Rash has got so much skill,' Brook added. 'He's a very wily bowler. He's he's been around the block for a while, and he keeps on getting better and better.'
