Macron presses Europe for coordinated pressure on Israel over Gaza
Shafaq News/ French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday called on Europe to take a firmer stance toward Israel, framing recognition of Palestine as a 'political necessity' amid the worsening crisis in Gaza.
Speaking in Singapore at the close of his Southeast Asia tour, Macron warned that failure to act would force Europe to rethink its approach, cautioning, 'If a response matching the scale of the tragedy in Gaza doesn't emerge within hours or days, Europe's posture toward the Israeli government will harden.'
He urged European governments to coordinate their positions and increase pressure on Israel, describing Palestinian statehood as 'crucial' to achieving regional stability. Macron reiterated France's backing of a two-state solution, calling it 'the only viable path' to ending the war, which has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians—mostly women and children—and injured over 123,000 since October 7, 2023.
The French President also emphasized France's rejection of 'double standards' in Middle East policy, insisting that peace must be built on justice and mutual recognition.
Macron's remarks capped a tour that included stops in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore. Earlier in Jakarta, he reaffirmed France's support for a sovereign Palestinian state.
The speech also came shortly after France, the UK, and Canada issued a rare joint statement condemning Israel's ongoing military campaign and warning of consequences if hostilities and aid restrictions persist.

Palestine: 8 citizens killed in Israeli shelling north of Khan Yunis
Follow-up - INA Eight citizens were killed and others injured on Saturday, six of them in an Israeli shelling of a tent sheltering displaced persons in Al-Qarara, north of Khan Yunis. The Palestinian News Agency reported that "an Israeli drone bombed a tent sheltering displaced persons in the Mawasi area of Al-Qarara town, north of Khan Yunis, killing six citizens, including four from one family." It added that "Israeli forces fired live ammunition at citizens near an aid distribution center west of Rafah, killing two citizens." It continued, "Ambulance crews recovered the bodies of the martyrs following a previous shelling of Khan Yunis."

Al-Hol exodus: +830 Iraqis return home in 11th 2025 convoy
Shafaq News/ On Saturday, 223 Iraqi families left Syria's Al-Hol camp in Al-Hasakah province returning to Iraq under heavy security provided by the US-led Global Coalition. The Head of the Departure Office at Al-Hol, Shukri Al-Hajji, told Shafaq News that this is the 11th repatriation operation since the beginning of 2025 and the 26th overall. The current convoy includes 832 individuals. The repatriation is coordinated between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the Iraqi government. Iraqi families who expressed a desire to return are gradually being evacuated in organized groups. In a previous round last month, 241 families—comprising 865 individuals—were returned to Iraq in a similar operation. The Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement Spokesperson Ali Abbas Jahangir told Shafaq News earlier that over 15,000 individuals have been transferred from Al-Hol to Iraq since repatriation efforts began, adding, 'More than 12,600 persons remain in the camp, awaiting relocation in future batches.' Iraq launched the repatriation program in 2021. Returnees are received at the Jadaa camp in Nineveh, where they undergo social and psychological rehabilitation. The effort, however, continues to face backlash from local communities—especially families of ISIS victims in Nineveh—who express concern over the reintegration of returnees into their hometowns.
