24 minor children rescued from train at Muzaffarpur station, 5 human traffickers held
Patna: A joint team of
Railway Protection Force
(RPF) and Govt Railway Police (GRP) rescued 24 minor children, mostly from Katihar district, from a general coach of the New Jalpaiguri–Amritsar Karmabhoomi Express (12407) at Muzaffarpur station on Wednesday evening.
According to Muzaffarpur RPF inspector Manish Kumar, the rescue was carried out under 'Operation Aahat', a national initiative launched by railways and aimed at combating human trafficking.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Muzaffarpur RPF and GRP launched a swift operation as the train arrived at the station late Wednesday evening, and arrested five suspected human traffickers accompanying the children.
They were identified as Bilas Kumar from Katihar, Avinash Hembram from West Bengal, Manoj Kewat from Katihar, Tanveer from Khagaria, and Manish from Samastipur.
The children were visibly distressed and appeared to be unaware of their destination. However, when interrogated, the accused said that these children were being taken to Ambala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Amritsar to work as labourers on monthly payments of Rs 10,000 to 12,000 each. The RPF inspector added that railway police were making all possible efforts to reunite the rescued children with their families with the help of an NGO.
After recording the statement of the rescued children by the RPF, the five accused were handed over to the Muzaffarpur GRP for further legal proceedings against them.

Kota bank fraud: ICICI bank employee altered customer mobile numbers; stole Rs 4.58 crore over 3 years
ICICI employee swindles over 4.5cr from Kota city branch, arrested KOTA: In a major bank fraud, a relationship manager of ICICI Bank, Sakshi Gupta, has allegedly siphoned off Rs 4.58 crore from customer accounts in Kota city. The accused worked at Shriram Nagar branch of DCM area in Kota and committed the fraud during the 2020-23 period. She was arrested by the Udhyog Nagar police on May 31 following investigation. The crime first came to light on Feb 18, following which the branch manager lodged a complaint with the police. According to police, for around two-and-a-half years, Sakshi withdrew funds fraudulently from over 100 accounts of 41 customers. She purportedly invested the money in the stock market, but suffered heavy losses. To prevent customers from noticing, she changed the mobile numbers linked to several accounts to numbers belonging to her relatives, ensuring that transaction alerts and OTPs were not received by the real account holders. Bank manager Tarun Dadhich subsequently filed a complaint against her. According to Udhyog Nagar police station SI Ibrahim, the fraud was first reported on Feb 18. From 2020 to 2023, Sakshi had systematically transferred funds from various customer accounts, in some cases using an elderly woman's account, who was unaware of the activity, as a 'pool account'. She had transferred over Rs 3 crore into this account. In addition, a fraudulent personal loan for Rs 3.4 lakh was disbursed. Many transactions were conducted through insta kiosks and various digital banking platforms, with the accused using debit cards of four customers for ATM and internet banking activity. Funds from these frauds were also sent to Demat accounts as part of an attempted cover-up, police said. A statement issued by the ICICI Bank said, "The interest of our customers are of paramount importance to us. Immediately upon discovering the fraudulent activity, we filed an FIR with the police. We have a zero-tolerance policy against any fraudulent activity and thus suspended the employee involved. We would like to reassure that genuine claims of impacted customers have been settled." PMK president Anbumani urges Stalin to order probe into ‘wage scam' in drainage board
TIRUNELVELI: PMK president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday urged CM MK Stalin to order an inquiry into the allegation of Rs 90 cr loot committed every year by officials and contractors of Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD ) Board who pay only 40% to 50% wages to workers. The TNIE carried a detailed report about the issue on Friday. In a post on his 'X' handle, Anbumani said it was condemnable that no action has been taken against those responsible for the scam, which has been going on for over 20 years. 'There is no greater crime or sin in the world than embezzling wages meant for contract workers. The Tamil Nadu government must order a fair inquiry into this scam. Those behind it must be identified,' he demanded. The PMK leader said, 'A total of 11,597 workers, including electricians, pumping operators, and maintenance assistants, are employed on a contract basis in the TWAD Board. Their wages are paid to the contractors, who then disburse it to the workers. The accusation is that contractors, who receive a minimum wage of Rs 15,401 or more per worker, pay only Rs 7,500 to Rs 9,800 and embezzle the remaining amount.'
