TVS-owned Norton Motorcycles India launch confirmed this year
Acquired by TVS in 2020, Norton Motorcycles will arrive in India later this year and will be competing in the premium motorcycle segment
TVS Motor Company has confirmed that it will bring the much-awaited iconic British brand Norton Motorcycles to India later this year. Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director - TVS, announced the development, soon after the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was greenlit on May 6. The move will drop the import duties on made-in-UK cars and two-wheelers from over 100 per cent to just 10 per cent. This should make the Norton bikes more accessible than originally anticipated.
'Our British brand Norton will launch later this year and this agreement will help us scale faster and leverage common supply chains. We are excited as we further progress towards Viksit Bharat," Sudarshan Venu said in a statement.

TVS acquired Norton Motorcycles in 2020 for ₹ 153 crore amidst the latter's financial crisis, and the Indian brand has worked with Norton to help with the turnaround investing ₹ 1,000 crore in the process. The company has extensively worked in improving the current range of bikes, while introducing all-new offerings in the last couple of years. Norton Motorcycles Expected In India
TVS is expected to bring the premium range of Norton Motorcycles first, comprising the Commando 961, V4SV, and V4CR. These bikes are likely to arrive as Completely Built Units (CBUs) and are built at Norton's Solihull facility in the UK. The bikes will serve more as brand builders before the company rolls out the made-in-India offerings that are in the pipeline. The company has already confirmed it plans to launch six new bikes by 2027, some of which will be made in India. Norton is also rumoured to be working on bikes in the 300-400 cc category, taking the fight to players like Royal Enfield, Triumph, Harley-Davidson, Honda and more. These will be crucial in the brand's long-term plans as it aims to diversify its presence in emerging markets with the upcoming range. There's no timeline available yet for Norton's arrival but expect the brand to officially make its way to Indian shores around September-October, right in time for the festive season.
The India-UK FTA promises to make it much easier for the Norton bikes to make their way to the Indian market. The move will greatly benefit other British brands including Triumph, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, McLaren, Lotus, Aston Martin, JLR, and more to bring their full imports to India. At the same time, exports from India will also get more convenient with tariff reductions in the UK on India-made products.

Working with other Tata group firms to assist crash victims' kin: Air India
The solemn process of handing over the mortal remains of the 241 passengers and crew members killed in the Air India crash is currently underway, the airline said on Sunday. Over 400 family members of the deceased have gathered in Ahmedabad, where the airline has stationed teams to assist them. 'Every affected family in Ahmedabad has been assigned at least one caregiver by Air India,' the airline said in a statement posted on X on Sunday evening, adding that it was coordinating with Tata Group companies and government authorities to support the bereaved and facilitate repatriation where required. Air India reiterated that its priority remains extending assistance to the families. 'We have established contact with the next of kin/relatives of all passengers and crew members… Over 400 family members have reached Ahmedabad and are being assisted by our teams on the ground,' it said. The airline also acknowledged the contribution of multiple government agencies and hospital staff in Ahmedabad. 'We extend our profound gratitude to the Central and State Governments for their unwavering and exceptional support… and our heartfelt appreciation to the faculty, staff, students, and associates of Civil Hospital and Rajasthan Hospital in Ahmedabad for their tireless efforts,' it noted. The crash of Flight AI171, operating a Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Ahmedabad to London, occurred on Thursday afternoon shortly after take-off. It is one of the deadliest accidents involving an Indian carrier in the last few decades. The airline said it remains 'fully cooperative' with the ongoing investigation and will continue to share updates as verified information becomes available. Friends and Relatives Assistance Centres remain functional at Ahmedabad and Mumbai airports, and Air India has also provided hotline numbers for those seeking information. On Saturday, Air India announced an interim financial assistance of ₹25 lakh (approximately £21,000) for each family of the deceased and the lone survivor. This is in addition to the ₹1 crore (approximately £85,000) financial support announced earlier by Tata Sons. Meanwhile, the airline is conducting one-time safety checks on its entire Boeing 787 fleet as mandated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). These checks are being performed as the aircraft return to India and are cleared for their next operations. 'Nine of the Boeing 787 aircraft have been checked so far. We are on track to complete the process for the remaining 24 aircraft within the regulator's timeline,' the airline said on Saturday evening. It warned that some of the checks may cause longer turnaround times and potential delays, especially on long-haul routes to airports with curfews. A high-level, multidisciplinary committee led by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan was constituted on Friday to conduct a comprehensive review of the AI171 crash. The committee includes senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Home Affairs, Gujarat state government, Indian Air Force, Intelligence Bureau, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Unlike the technical probe being carried out by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), this panel is expected to take a holistic view, examining standard operating procedures, safety regulations and emergency response coordination across central and state agencies. It will also liaise with international investigative bodies as needed.

Actually, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has made changes in the daily allowances and travel policy for its employees. Under these changes, employees will now get a new daily allowance policy and some old allowances have been removed. Under the old policy, employees used to get a daily allowance of Rs 15000 per day for short-term travel (up to four days) and Rs 10000 per day for long-term travel (such as related to IPL, WPL, or ICC events in India). Apart from this, a contingency allowance of Rs 7500 was also given. According to the new policy, the contingency allowance has been removed. Now employees will get a uniform daily allowance of Rs 10000 per day during travel. According to a BCCI source, the effective daily allowance after tax deduction will be around Rs 6,500 per day. Dues will be paid soon: Since the policy had to be changed, BCCI employees, including finance, operations and media departments, were not paid their daily allowances for IPL and WPL. However, now that the policy is ready, their dues will be paid soon. Regarding this, the source said, 'A clear policy was needed in the matter of allowances as some employees were claiming allowances despite working from Mumbai headquarters during the tournament. Now that the policy is ready, the dues will be paid soon.' Allowance will be given according to travel! IPL lasts for more than two months and ICC events also last for at least a month. In such a situation, if an employee is travelling for the entire 70 days for IPL, then he will be eligible to claim a total of Rs 7 lakh at the rate of Rs 10,000 per day. On the other hand, employees whose travel is limited during IPL will be eligible to claim only 60% of the 70-day allowance and employees who do not travel at all (such as those working in Mumbai headquarters) can claim only 40% of the 70-day allowance. How much is paid for foreign travel? Most BCCI employees are paid USD 300 per day for foreign tours. Honorary office bearers, including the president, secretary, treasurer, vice-president and joint secretary, receive a daily allowance of USD 1000 per day on foreign tours. Office bearers are paid Rs 40,000 for a one-day meeting within India and Rs 30,000 per day for a multi-day domestic work trip.
