Best LIV Golf players in 2025 Masters field? We ranked 'em all at Augusta National
Of the 12 LIV Golf players competing in the 2025 Masters, seven of them have slid on the green jacket.
Four of the past eight Masters champions now compete on LIV Golf, and this week marks the first time since the Olympics that the best players in the world are together again competing on the same stage.
Some of those playing for LIV come into the first major of the year in good form. Others are likely hoping to simply make the weekend and play all four rounds.
Let's rank the LIV Golf players coming into the Masters, from those least likely to contend to those with a great chance to win.
LIV Golf power rankings at 2025 Masters
12. Bubba Watson
Yes, Bubba is a two-time Masters winner. There's always a chance he finds some magic, but he was relegated from LIV Golf last year and hasn't found his form in 2025.
11. Charl Schwartzel
It's hard to put Schwartzel this low, considering he finished second at LIV Golf Miami last weekend, but the 2011 Masters champ was a one-hit wonder at Augusta National.
10. Patrick Reed
Reed has had a so-so year on LIV Golf, and he hasn't missed the cut at the Masters since winning in 2018. He tied for seventh at Doral last week, so perhaps he is finding his groove heading into Augusta National.
7. Dustin Johnson
Another player who feels way too low on the list, but Johnson has not had a good start to 2025. He has slowly faded, tying for fifth in Hong Kong last month, but his best finish otherwise is T-27 at Doral. He has also missed the Masters cut two of the past four years.
8. Cameron Smith
Smith knows how to play well at Augusta National, finishing in the top 10 in five of the last six years. But he's struggling coming into the Masters. Maybe this week is when it turns around (because it feels criminal to have him this low).
7. Tyrrell Hatton
Hatton has been middle of the road on LIV Golf this year. He won in Dubai to begin the year but hasn't finished better than T-19 in his last four starts. He has the talent to contend, but he hasn't been playing well leading into the Masters.
6. Phil Mickelson
Hear me out: Lefty is playing some good golf ahead of Augusta National. If he has one more run in him, it could be this weekend. A pair of top-six finishes on LIV Golf in his last two starts, and Mickelson knows how to play well at Augusta National, where he is the tournament's all-time money winner.
5. Brooks Koepka
If there's almost a guarantee in recent years, it's that Koepka is going to contend in majors. It's a mixed bag of results this season, but he has a runner-up finish in Singapore, and knowing the Masters is high on his priority list, you can almost guarantee Koepka is going to be around the lead at some point.
4. Sergio Garcia
The 2017 Masters champion has been playing incredible golf in recent months. He's 19th in the Data Golf rankings, which ranks both PGA Tour and LIV Golf players, and he's made a great argument that he should be on the European Ryder Cup team. Putting himself into contention this week would be another reason to do just that.
3. Bryson DeChambeau
The 2024 U.S. Open champion hasn't won since his triumph at Pinehurst No. 2, but DeChambeau figured out Augusta National a little bit more last year, holding the 36-hole lead before slowly fading as the weekend progressed. He knows how to get it done in the majors, and with a little more experience at Augusta National, perhaps he's closer to sliding on the green jacket.
2. Joaquin Niemann
No, he's not the top player in the world, nor is he No. 1 on this list. Niemann hasn't finished better than 16th in a major, and that could change this week. He has two wins on LIV Golf this year but tied for 33rd in Miami. There's a lot of pressure on Niemann to perform this week, which could help his case to get into the U.S. Open in June, the only major he isn't currently slated to tee it up at.
1. Jon Rahm
Rahm has been incredible, even if you don't hear about it as much. He still has not finished outside of the top 10 since joining LIV Golf, and the 2023 Masters champ remains one of the best players in the world. He didn't perform well in the majors in 2024, including missing the cut at Augusta National, but if there can be one guarantee, it's that Rahm is going to be motivated to bounce back at the Masters.

Summer McIntosh breaks world record in 200m individual medley

Summer McIntosh broke the world record in the 200m individual medley, giving her the fastest time in history in three different long course swimming events. McIntosh, a triple 2024 Olympic gold medalist, clocked 2 minutes, 5.70 seconds on Monday at the Canadian trials for the World Championships in Singapore in July and August. Advertisement She broke the world record of 2:06.12 set by Hungarian Katinka Hosszu at the 2015 World Championships, the third-longest standing world record in women's long course (50-meter pool) swimming. McIntosh, 18, was previously the third-fastest 200m IMer in history thanks to her 2:06.56 to win Paris Olympic gold. With Monday's time, she passed American Ariana Kukors, who swam 2:06.15 at the 2009 Worlds, and Hosszu. McIntosh also owns world records in the 400m IM (set in 2024) and the 400m freestyle (reclaimed from Australian Ariarne Titmus last Saturday). On Sunday, she swam the third-fastest 800m free in history, trailing only Katie Ledecky's top two times. She also owns the second-fastest time in history in the 200m butterfly. Advertisement For this season's worlds, McIntosh said she plans to swim five individual events: her three Olympic gold-medal events — both IMs, 200m fly — plus the 400m free and one of the 200m free, 200m backstroke or 800m free. Michael Phelps is the only swimmer to win five individual golds at a single worlds, doing so in 2007 to set the table for repeating the feat at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he also won three relay golds for eight total. Paris 2024 Olympic Games - Day One Ariarne Titmus: 'I know that the LA Olympics will be my last' Ariarne Titmus won two swimming gold medals for Australia at Tokyo 2020 and at Paris 2024.

T.J. Oshie, US Olympic star in Sochi and Capitals Stanley Cup champion, announces he's retiring

'My only contribution was that this could be a good day and place to have (the ceremony),' Oshie said, adding, 'I can't thank the Caps enough. Another first-class move by them to have my retirement here, invite all the people out. It really made this day special.' Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up The announcement had been expected for quite some time, with Oshie's contract expiring. The 38-year-old did not play this past season because of a nagging back injury that sidelined him off and on, going on long-term injured reserve instead. Advertisement Oshie said in the spring of 2024 he would only return to the Capitals if he found a permanent solution or fix to the issue. His final game was at home on April 28 last year against the Rangers, a 4-2 loss in the first round that eliminated Washington in a sweep. Advertisement 'I was fully prepared that could be my last game: I got the pictures taken of me taking off the skates to prove it,' Oshie said. 'I hadn't thought too much about [the end], honestly, besides that moment. Even before that moment, knowing how tough it was on really the whole team with me, what I was going through, actually saying the words out loud at the podium with my family in front of me and the Caps organization, my teammates, all my close friends, it was emotional.' T.J. Oshie helped the Capitals win the Stanley Cup in 2018. John Locher/Associated Press Taken 24th in the 2005 draft by the Blues, Oshie played 1,116 regular-season and playoff games in the league with the Blues and Capitals since making his debut in 2008. He had 336 goals and 428 assists for 764 points, including 21 points during Washington's Cup run. Oshie made an international name for himself at the Olympics, earning the nickname 'T.J. Sochi' for going 4 for 6 in shootout attempts against Sergei Bobrovsky during the US-Russia preliminary round game in that tournament. US Olympic coach Dan Bylsma figured one game would go to a shootout, hence the choice of bringing Oshie. Bylsma kept going back to him over and over. 'T.J. had been on fire that season in the shootout, and with the scouting report on Bobrovsky we felt T.J. would have a great chance against him,' Bylsma told The Associated Press by text message Monday. 'Even when he didn't score, he had beaten Bob with his move, so we kept rolling with him.' USA forward T.J. Oshie (right) prepares to take a shot against Russia goaltender Sergei Bobrovski during a shootout at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Julio Cortez/Associated Press In the NHL, his biggest impact came after he was traded from the Blues to the Capitals in 2015. Oshie took on an immediate leadership role as a key addition to the core of Alex Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Carlson, helping the team make the playoffs in eight of his nine seasons in the nation's capital. Advertisement 'I'll be the first to give credit to my teammates, because without them, I was nowhere near good enough to do it without a group like that,' Oshie said. Oshie's 76 power-play goals with the Capitals are the fifth most in franchise history. He scored 49 times in the shootout, tied for third all time since it was implemented in 2005. 'I like to think that when I was playing, that I was playing for my teammates, for my coaches, for my family, for my fans. I rarely thought about my own accolades,' Oshie said. 'To be remembered [as a 'warrior' type of player] is a huge honor because that was my goal and the way I played the game.' Bijan Robinson Makes Announcement on 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Bijan Robinson Makes Announcement on 2028 Los Angeles Olympics originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the first time in the historic sporting event's history, flag football will be a part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Advertisement In addition to flag football joining sports such as baseball/softball, cricket, lacrosse and squash as the new sports being added, the other exciting news around the flag football aspect is that NFL players were given the stamp of approval to play by the owners in a 32-0 vote back in May. While many fans have begun speculating who will or won't play, some notable stars have seemingly made decisions already. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes, seemed to have passed on the opportunity. Meanwhile, four-time All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson made it clear he hopes to rep the Stars and Stripes. On Monday, former Texas Longhorns star and current Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson revealed that he would be interested in playing. "I think it's awesome," Robinson told the media. "All it does is grow the game a lot. I think for me like, I grew up playing flag football and that was my offseason game was flag and 7-on-7. So, you know I feel like it's always an honor to play for your country, like you always wanna play for your country. And I would love to show my skill set on that type of stage." Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson staring at the Hartline-Imagn Images While Robinson admitted he would like to play, he did acknowledge that there are athletes out there who specialize in the sport. He also said that scheduling will play a major role in whether he and other NFL stars can play, along with the NFL teams actually allowing players to play in them. Advertisement Regardless, he doubled down on wanting to play. "I would love to play in that game if given the opportunity," Robinson said. "But obviously, we'll see. I don't want it to affect my team and what we got going on here." This past season, Robinson rushed for 1,456 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also adding 61 catches for 431 yards and a score. Assuming the 23-year-old is healthy when the Olympics roll around, it's hard to imagine there is a more shifty and elusive option than him.
