Israel Allows Aid Into Gaza As WHO Warns 500,000
Israel has enforced a nearly three-month blockade on humanitarian aid going into the Gaza Strip, amid reports that Hamas and criminal elements have been intercepting and stealing the aid, and then reselling it.
The Wall Street Journal reports Monday that 'Israel will allow the resumption of limited aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip, ending a nearly three-month blockade that has depleted humanitarian supplies in the enclave as the military expands its operations there.'
Pressure has been coming from Washington and international organizations for the ban on aid to be lifted, on new reports that famine is once again hitting the largely destroyed Palestinian enclave.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office first announced Sunday that 'a basic quantity of food to be brought in' to avoid a starvation crisis. He has also declared his intent to take over all of the Gaza Strip.
Interestingly, the statement said that a driving concern is not the plight of Gaza civilians, but that mass starvation could risk endangering the Israeli military campaign to annihilate the militant group Hamas.
Netanyahu is framing the move as necessary to keep up political support from Washington:
Netanyahu said U.S. senators he has known for years as supporters of Israel, 'our best friends in the world', were telling him the scenes of hunger were draining vital support and bringing Israel close to a 'red line, to a point where we might lose control'.
'It is for that reason, in order to achieve victory, we have to somehow solve the problem,' he said, in a message apparently addressed to far-right hardliners in his government who have insisted aid be denied to Gaza to stop it reaching Hamas.
So the new policy to allow aid in is a political ploy, but one that will indeed likely satisfy critics, for the time being at least.
Fresh reports out of the UN and World Health Organization (WHO) have sounded the alarm, saying nearly 500,000 people are at risk of starvation in Gaza.
'Populations across the Gaza Strip are at risk of famine as fighting has surged again, border crossings are still closed, and food is dangerously scarce,' a UN statement says.
'Hunger and malnutrition have intensified sharply since all aid was blocked from entering on 2 March, reversing the clear humanitarian gains seen during the ceasefire earlier this year,' the UN's World Food Program has said.

And the organization, Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), projects that 'an alarming 71,000 children and more than 17,000 mothers will need urgent treatment for acute malnutrition. A report states that 'At the beginning of 2025, agencies estimated 60,000 children would need treatment.'
The organization further warned that 'Families in Gaza are starving while the food they need is sitting at the border.' As it's believed that tens of thousands of Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants are still utilizing Gaza's vast tunnel network to fight the Israelis, the war looks to continue possibly for years to come.

Netanyahu Arming ISIS-Aligned Jihadis In Gaza, Israeli Defense Sources Confirm
At the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the State of Israel is arming an ISIS-aligned Jihadist gang in Gaza, unnamed Israeli defense officials confirmed to the Times of Israel on Thursday. While refraining from validating that particular characterization of the weapon recipients, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel is 'activating clans in Gaza that oppose Hamas.' Significantly, the prime minister is accused of green-lighting the weapon handovers without securing his cabinet's permission. News of Netanyahu's latest provision of aid to Sunni extremists in the Middle East first came via remarks made by opposition Knesset member and former defense minister Avigdor Lieberman in a Thursday morning interview with Kan Bet public radio. 'The Israeli government is giving weapons to a group of criminals and felons, identified with Islamic State, at the direction of the prime minister…Ultimately, these weapons will be turned against us.' It wouldn't be the first time Netanyahu has opportunistically bolstered Gaza extremists only to have them murderously lash out at Israelis. Indeed, following in the steps of his predecessors, Netanyahu boosted Hamas itself in a calculated effort to ensure Israel had no united, moderate counterparties available to negotiate a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. 'Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas,' Netanyahu told a meeting of Likud Party members of parliament in 2019. 'This is part of our strategy — to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank.' In 2016, an earlier Netanyahu government provided medical treatment to a Syrian affiliate of Al Qaeda. At the time, former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy brushed aside an interviewer's astonishment that Israel would aid an enemy of the United States: 'We have a different account with Hezbollah. A totally different account. Al Qaeda, to the best of my recollection, has not attacked Israel.' Netanyahu's latest favorite band of rogues is the Abu Shabab clan, led by Yasser Abu Shabab, who has reportedly been twice-imprisoned in Hamas-run jails for criminal offenses. '[They] are in essence lawless criminals who in recent years wanted to give themselves an ideological angle or spin, so they became Salafi [jihadists] and began identifying with ISIS,' Lieberman said. Varying described as a militia or a criminal gang, the Abu Shabab clan has been widely accused of looting humanitarian aid to the devastated Gaza population. In 2024, Abu Shabab didn't deny the allegations, instead lamely claiming his group tried not to steal supplies meant for children. That entry on Shabab's rap sheet makes Netanyahu's support for the clan rather hypocritical, as he's often condemned Hamas for allegedly stealing aid. 'Hamas is coming at gunpoint and stealing the food,' he said. 'Humanitarian deaths and starvation is, for us, it's a tragedy. For them, it's a strategy.' On the other hand, the Shabab clan meets the only qualification that seems to matter to Netanyahu: An interest in seeing Hamas dislodged from power in Gaza. In late May, Hamas posted a video showing an operation in which its militant blew up a group of armed men that observers concluded to be members of the Shabab clan. Hamas said the targeted group was collaborating directly with the IDF by inspecting buildings in Gaza before Israeli soldiers took them over: Following Lieberman's comments, the prime minister's office issued a statement saying 'Israel is working to defeat Hamas in various ways, on the recommendation of all heads of the security establishment.' On Thursday afternoon, defense officials confirmed to the Times of Israel that Netanyahu's government is shipping Kalashnikov rifles to the jihadists. Syrian Islamist Leader Sharaa Will Speak At UN
The Islamist group which rules Syria from Damascus, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has long been designated as a terrorist organization by the UN, US and UK. But once the hardline group toppled Assad, things changed rapidly. The group's leader and self-declared interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa (Abu Mohammed al-Jolani) until very recently had a $10 million bounty on his head. In May, President Trump met with Sharaa in Saudi Arabia, praising his 'very strong past' – after which US sanctions on Syria were dropped. That 'strong past' was terrorism plain and simple, including attacks on civilians and overseeing Sharia executions in AQ-held Idlib provice. A week before the Gulf meeting with Trump, Sharaa had suggested the idea of building a Trump Tower in Damascus. Since then, Sharaa has engaged with several US delegations, pushing for positive relations amid an effort to present a 'moderated' and 'reformed' leadership, despite that Jolani had even been part of ISIS early in the Syrian proxy war. This is why a headline which emerged Tuesday is absurd and shocking: the man who founded the Syrian al-Qaeda group Al-Nusra Front is coming to America. One international report says: Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa will visit New York in September to participate in the United Nations General Assembly, according to Sky News Arabic. Reports of Sharaa's intention to address the UN have emerged in Arabic-language media in recent weeks. This would mark the first time a Syrian president has addressed the UN since June 1967, when Nureddin al-Atassi did so after Israel's victory in the Six Day War. Earlier this week, the US endorsed Sharaa's controversial proposal to integrate thousands of foreign jihadists from his group, HTS, into the Syrian military. This is tantamount to Washington nodding in agreement with a plan to regularize global jihadists in the heart of the Middle East. However, Sharaa has certainly not been universally welcomed even in the region. In April, Iraq invited him to the Arab League summit in Baghdad, but his past as a senior member of al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) led to strong opposition, given AQI is responsible for thousands of brutal killings of Iraqi civilians. Sharaa chose not to attend the Arab League amid the pressure, and his reported upcoming visit to the UN in New York City could provoke similar resistance. The legal loop hole in all this is that despite his terrorism past, US law allows for sitting heads of state to attend UN headquarters in NY City. And this question is somewhat moot anyway, given that President Trump has already full embraced him, during last month's Riyadh visit.

US Warns Britain & France Not To Recognize Palestinian State
The US has warned Britain and France against recognizing a Palestinian state at a UN conference later this month, Middle East Eye can reveal. France and Saudi Arabia are set to co-host a major UN conference on the two-state solution beginning on June 17 in New York. France is reportedly gearing up to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state at the conference. MEE understands that France has been lobbying Britain to do so as well. French officials believe the British government is onboard with the plan, according to French media. But Washington privately begun to warn Britain and France against unilaterally recognizing Palestine, sources with knowledge of the matter in the British Foreign Office told MEE. At the same time Arab states are urging them to proceed with the move, sources said. In late May, UN member states held consultations in preparation for the conference during which the Arab Group urged states to recognize Palestinian statehood.
