Sivasangari cruises into third round of 2025 British Open
NATIONAL women's squash champion S. Sivasangari advanced to the third round of the British Open 2025 in Birmingham today.
In the second-round match at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, the world number eight player needed just 45 minutes to record a 12-10, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7 victory over India's Ahanat Singh.
Awaiting Sivasangari in the third round is the tournament's seventh seed from Japan, Satomi Watanabe, who also advanced after defeating France's Melissa Alves 11-8, 11-5, 11-1.
Earlier, Sivasangari became the sole Malaysian female representative still continuing the challenge in the tournament after Aira Azman and Noor Ainaa Amani Ampandi were eliminated early.
National men's squash champion Ng Eain Yow also suffered a surprising defeat to an unseeded opponent in the second round earlier this morning.

Thinaah lived up to their billing as the fourth seeds after clearing the first hurdle at the Indonesian Open with a straight-game win over Taiwan's Sung Shuo-yan-Yu Chien-hui on Wednesday (June 4). Despite having to adjust to the new look and feel of the Istora Senayan courts, Pearly-Thinaah held their composure to claim a 21-16, 21-17 victory in 42 minutes. They will next face home favourites Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti in the second round on Thursday (June 5). Pearly-Thinaah stay sharp with commanding opening win in Jakarta
KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 4 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah showed no signs of fatigue as they kicked off their fourth consecutive week of competition with a confident first-round victory at the Indonesia Open on Wednesday. Pearly-Thinaah barely broke a sweat against world No. 15 Sung Shuo Yun-Yu Chien Hui of Taiwan, sealing a 21-16, 21-17 win in just 41 minutes at Istora Senayan in Jakarta. The match marked their second win over the Taiwanese pair, having also beaten them in the opening round of the same tournament last year. Despite the result, Thinaah admitted that they weren't fully satisfied with their performance. "To be honest, we're not really happy with today's performance," she said. "It's a new court for us — this year it's a Victor court and the shuttle feels a bit different from what we expected. "But we tried to do what we could, and we also discussed it among ourselves and with the coaches. Tomorrow, we'll be more prepared and aim to do better."
