American forces reportedly bombed the Israeli-linked cargo ship Galaxy Leader off the coast of Yemen, according to Al-Mayadeen TV. Three separate airstrikes were launched on the ship, which had been seized earlier by Houthi forces during a helicopter operation in November 2023. The U.S. military also conducted widespread aerial strikes across Yemen, targeting multiple areas including the Ras Isa Oil Port, Kamaran Island, and Sanaa, reportedly injuring civilians including two children. These strikes come in response to Houthi attacks on strategic Israeli sites and a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Red Sea.#houthis #galaxyleader #unitedstates #yemen

Treasury secretary Bessent seen in race to succeed US Fed's Powell

A growing chorus of advisers inside and outside the Trump administration are pushing another name to serve as the next chair of the Federal Reserve: Treasury secretary Scott Bessent. US President Donald Trump said Friday he would name a successor "very soon" to replace Jerome Powell, whose term as Fed chair ends in May 2026. The small list of candidates under consideration has included Kevin Warsh, a former Fed official whom Trump interviewed for the Treasury secretary role in Nov, according to people familiar with the matter. But Bessent - who is leading Trump's effort to kickstart the US economy with sweeping changes to trade, taxes and regulation - is also now one of the contenders for the job, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss private conversations. Formal interviews for the position have not begun, two of the people said. "I have the best job in Washington," Bessent said in response to a request for comment. "The President will decide who's best for the economy and the American people." A senior administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disputed the reporting without providing further specifics. Trump slams LA protesters burning US flags, proposes 1-year jail sentence

President Trump's comments came in response to protests in Los Angeles, where demonstrators were seen burning American flags in defiance of U.S. immigration policies and federal actions. During a press conference, the president expressed strong disapproval of such acts, criticizing those who, in his view, show allegiance to other countries while disrespecting the American flag. Trump emphasized the importance of national pride and unity, stating that individuals who burn the American flag should face legal consequences, specifically suggesting a one-year jail sentence. He framed the act of flag burning as not only an affront to the nation but as a challenge to American values and sovereignty. Show more Show less

'We have reached a framework to implement the Geneva consensus,' US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told reporters in London. This comes after nearly 20 hours of talks held over two days in a Georgian-era mansion near Buckingham Palace, China's chief trade negotiator Li Chenggang stated that both the US and Chinese delegations will now present the proposed framework to their respective leaders for further consideration. 'Once the presidents approve it, we will then seek to implement it,' Lutnick added. Moreover, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said there were no other meetings scheduled, but added that the American and Chinese sides talk frequently and are able to do so whenever they need, according to a report by Bloomberg.
