Ducks Urged to Pursue Maple Leafs' Star After Joel Quenneville Hire
Ducks Urged to Pursue Maple Leafs' Star After Joel Quenneville Hire originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Anaheim Ducks hired former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville to lead the team forward. Anaheim believes that Quenneville can help this team take that next step to get back to the postseason and contend for a Stanley Cup title. Advertisement But with Quenneville now in the mix, Anaheim seems ready to make a splash across the roster. The Ducks desperately need a boost offensively, and the team could solve some issues by going after one player in free agency. That would be star Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs, who is expected to have a robust market. But Anaheim would be a perfect landing spot for the forward. In fact, Ducks insider Eric Stephens of The Athletic is urging Anaheim to make a heavy push to land the Maple Leafs star. "The Ducks are positioned to make a gigantic splash in free agency. Marner was the NHL's fifth-leading scorer. Wanting him and getting him might be different matters, but the last Ducks player to finish that high in the scoring race was Ryan Getzlaf (with 87 points) in 2013-14. Can you imagine a top line with Marner, Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier as they chart a path to the playoffs?" Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner (16) and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews (34) during a break in the action against the Colorado Avalanche at Scotiabank Arena. John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images Marner could help this young Ducks team grow immensely, and his skill set would fit well alongside some of the other players on the roster. The veteran has been in the media circus that is Toronto for his entire career, and if he were to come to Anaheim, it would be a stark difference. Advertisement It remains to be seen how involved the Ducks will be in the pursuit of Marner, but the team makes a lot of sense. Anaheim seems ready to strike, and Marner could be the spark to move them forward. Big Jayson Tatum News Catches Attention on Monday
Big Jayson Tatum News Catches Attention on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It wasn't the ending the Boston Celtics had in mind for the 2024-25 season. While pushing for back-to-back NBA titles, the Celtics suffered a major blow when Jayson Tatum went down in Game 4 of their second-round series against the Knicks. Advertisement The injury looked serious, and it was. Tatum suffered a non-contact Achilles tendon rupture and underwent surgery the next day. Boston lost the series to New York in six games, cutting their playoff run short. As the offseason began, questions swirled about how long Tatum would be out, with many speculating he could miss the entire 2025-26 season. While his return timeline remains unclear, Tatum is already working to make his return as soon as possible. On Monday afternoon, Celtics on CLNS posted a video shared by teammate Torrey Craig showing Tatum rehabbing at the team's practice facility. The footage gave fans a glimpse of the 27-year-old smiling and moving around, a welcome sight for anyone concerned about his recovery: The news of Tatum rehabbing sparked a wave of reactions across social media: Advertisement "That's cool to see," a fan posted. This fan was happy to see the Celtics' top scorer: "Awww his smile great to see he's in good spirits." Another fan wrote: "My heart! Omg! This makes me so happy!" "Love this," says this Celtics fan. "Tatum smiled as soon as he saw him, offer him a 5 yr contract rn this the type of energy we need," a fan posted. This fan is optimistic: "Blud gonna be on the court by January." Celtics fans are staying optimistic. Boston Celtics forward Jayson TatumNathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images Tatum, drafted third overall in 2017 out of Duke, has spent his entire career in Boston. Known for his consistency, he's played at least 64 games every season, including a career-high 80 as a rookie. Advertisement Last season, he appeared in 72 regular-season games, averaging 36.4 minutes, 26.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, he elevated his performance, averaging 28.1 points and 11.5 rebounds — both postseason career highs. Torrey Craig, who posted the rehab video, signed with the Celtics in February. He played in 17 games, starting three, and marked his sixth NBA team since entering the league with Denver in 2017-18. Craig saw limited action in the playoffs, averaging just 4.2 minutes across five games. The Celtics will enter next season aiming to extend their streak of four straight Atlantic Division titles. They've won at least 51 games each of the last four years and remain a top contender in the East, especially if Tatum can return ahead of schedule. Oregon legend named among most dynamic players of the century
Oregon legend named among most dynamic players of the century When it comes to college football in the 21st century, few teams have been as good, or as fun as the Oregon Ducks. Thanks to the up-tempo spread offense introduced by Chip Kelly in Eugene, the Ducks were known for their speed and flash, scoring points in a hurry and captivating the college football world. This flash put a lot of players in the limelight, creating offensive stars who became household names in a hurry. While it was quarterback Marcus Mariota who won the Heisman Trophy in 2014, his running mate, RB De'Anthony Thomas, recently earned the honor of being named among the most dynamic players of the century by CBS Sports. "Thomas was a lightning bug for the Ducks and Oregon found so many creative ways to ensure he got his share of touches every Saturday," CBS wrote. "He tallied 3,186 yards from scrimmage and 41 touchdowns over his three-year career, averaging 8.9 yards per touch on offense as a running back-slot hybrid of sorts. Equally explosive on special teams, Thomas returned four kickoffs and one punt for touchdowns as a menacing threat with track speed." Thomas went on to be drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft, and while his pro career may not have panned out quite as many expected, he will still go down as one of the most entertaining players to ever wear an Oregon uniform.
