Fifa to hand out $1bn prize pot at expanded Club World Cup
Fifa are to distribute $1bn (£775m) in prize money as part of the expanded Club World Cup this summer, with a target of $250m to go to clubs not taking part in the competition.
The size of the prize fund is likely turn heads across the game. Some estimates suggest the winning club in the 32 team tournament could take home as much as $100m (£77.5m); this would be equivalent to winning the Uefa Champions League, but after playing only six matches.
Speculation over the size of Fifa's prize pot has persisted since the organisers launched the tournament as a new and controversial fixture in the international calendar. Fifa subsequently announced a $1bn broadcast deal with Dazn last year, with the streamer earning exclusive rights to all matches over the four-week tournament. European teams will form the largest contingent at the Club World Cup with 12 sides set to take part.
Fifa are understood to have committed to keeping all revenues from the tournament inside the club game. Operational costs are included as part of the expenditure, but solidarity payments to clubs who did not earn an invitation to the tournament will also be part of the picture. The final sum of any solidarity fund is to be determined later once the revenues generated by the tournament have been confirmed, but the target is to share a quarter of a billion dollars.
Manchester City and Chelsea will represent the Premier League in the tournament, with 16 continental champions from the last four seasons all earning an invitation. A further 15 places – awarded to clubs such as Bayern Munich and Boca Juniors – were determined by positions in individual confederations' club rankings. A final 'host nation slot' was given to Leo Messi's Inter Miami.
The Club World Cup is scheduled to kick off on 14 June and will be played in 11 cities across the United States. The final is to be played at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, a 93,000-capacity venue home to NFL teams the New York Giants and New York Jets.

Man City SLASH ticket prices by up to 43% in massive win for fans after years or protesting and TEN YEARS of rises
MANCHESTER CITY have slashed matchday ticket prices following several fan protests. The Cityzens came under fire this season due to a rise in ticket costs. 1 Fans led demonstrations to protest the issue towards the end of the campaign, with thousands refusing to take to their seats at the start of some Premier League fixtures. Club officials subsequently took action, with chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak promising to find a solution. Lengthy negotiations were then held with City's fan advisory board before Mubarak and Co agreed to lower prices. From next season, fans will be charged between £40 and £60 for Category A games, which involve the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. There will be a further £5 reduction for Category B games and a £10 reduction for Category C fixtures. The cheapest tickets for Category A fixtures are down 43 per cent, with the most expensive down by 22 per cent. Man City are yet to release ticket prices for Champions League fixtures, although they are expected to come down as well. The news will come as a major boost for supporters, who have continued fighting to freeze ticket prices. City Matters, the club's fan advisory board, said in a statement on Friday: "We warmly welcome this announcement from the club, making matchday attendance more accessible and ensuring a vibrant atmosphere at the Etihad Stadium. "Through our dialogue with the club, the matchday pricing reductions, season ticket price freeze, release of new season tickets, and Flexi Gold season ticket fee adjustments highlight the value of fan voices through City Matters. "This announcement shows the club's commitment to City Matters and is a positive end to this season and our working relationship. "City Matters look forward to continued engagement and transparency with the club to achieve our shared ambition for Manchester City's success."

Newcastle enter £60m race for Brighton forward Joao Pedro with Anthony Elanga on shortlist to bolster attacking ranks
NEWCASTLE are set to accelerate their interest in Brighton star Joao Pedro, according to reports. Toon chiefs are keen to bolster Eddie Howe 's front line ahead of next season. The Magpies boss has long held an interest in Pedro, having considered signing him in 2022. According to the Telegraph, Newcastle have received an indication that Pedro would be willing to move to Tyneside this summer. Brighton are thought be demanding around £60m for the forward, although Toon chiefs believe that this fee could be negotiated. Fabian Hurzeler 's side have already signed a possible Pedro replacement this summer, shelling out around £30m on Greek forward Charalampos Kostoulas. Newcastle may have to move quickly for Pedro, with Chelsea also considering a swoop for the Brazilian. The former Watford ace scored 10 goals in 27 Prem appearances last term. Pedro was left out of Brighton's last two matches following a training ground bust-up with team-mate Jan Paul van Hecke. Hurzeler, 32, said last month: "With Joao we had a small issue in training, the type which isn't uncommon from time to time in all football clubs. We dealt with it internally and the matter is closed. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK "Joao is an incredible football player, he's a match-winner for us, he's a great player and that's why we invested in him. "But there are principles that are non-negotiable and count for everyone - that everyone has to stick to - where we don't make any compromises. What does Brighton player Joao Pedro's controversial 'throat-cutting' goal celebration mean? "Joao is still a young player. He will grow and I'm sure he will learn from this and come back stronger next season. I'm really looking forward to seeing him renewed and reinvigorated at his highest peak." In addition to Pedro, Newcastle are interested in Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga. Nuno Espirito Santo 's side want to keep the former Manchester United star, who would likely cost the Toon at least £50m. Newcastle have also considered swoops for West Ham ace Mohammed Kudus and Bournemouth 's Antoine Semenyo. But Pedro and Elanga are believed to be higher up on their wishlist. 2

Milner extends Brighton contract with Premier League appearances record in sight
June 13 (Reuters) - James Milner has agreed a one-year contract extension with Brighton & Hove Albion, the south-coast club said on Friday, as the 39-year-old eyes the all-time record for appearances in the Premier League. Milner, who made his Premier League bow as a 16-year-old for Leeds United in 2002, was restricted to just four league appearances in the 2024-25 campaign due to an injury in August, taking his overall tally to 638 Premier League games. But Milner, who will celebrate his 40th birthday in January, now has the chance to overhaul Gareth Barry's record of 653 Premier League games. "I'm really pleased we will have James with us again this season," head coach Fabian Huerzeler said in a statement. "Last season he wasn't able to help the team on the pitch as much as he would have liked, but around the squad his experience is invaluable, especially for the younger players. "He's a great guy to have in our environment, who is always there for me and the team. I'm looking forward to working with him again." Brighton finished eighth in the standings last season, missing out on European qualification.
