Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council discusses Arab initiatives
CAIRO, May 27 (MENA) - The Cybersecurity Governance and Policy Committee of the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council discussed during a meeting Tuesday under the UAE a number of Arab initiatives presented by member states to the first regular session of the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council.
Representatives of cybersecurity agencies in Arab countries, the General Secretariat of the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council and the General Secretariat of the Arab League (AL) took part in the meeting.
The committee also discussed the cybersecurity terminology dictionary initiative, the committee's work plan for the next phase and the policies and governance program, including a number of cybersecurity policies, frameworks and standards that the committee will work on to address emerging cyber threats at the Arab level.
The Cybersecurity Governance and Policy Committee—established pursuant to a decision by the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council at its first regular session held in Riyadh in Jumada al-Akhirah 1446 AH (December 2024 AD)—is responsible for proposing common Arab policies, legislation, regulations, systems, laws and standards related to cybersecurity. It also prepares studies, research, strategies, initiatives and projects and reviews reports detailing changes in international cybersecurity policies that could impact policies and regulations in Arab countries.
It is worth noting that the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council comprises Arab ministers concerned with cybersecurity. The Council's bylaws were adopted pursuant to a decision by the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level. It operates under the umbrella of the Council of the AL. Its mandate includes formulating general policies, setting strategies and priorities that will advance joint Arab action in cybersecurity, examining all cybersecurity issues and developments at the security, economic, developmental and legislative levels and approving joint Arab plans in the field of cybersecurity to implement the policies and strategies approved by the Council.
