Jason Statham's ‘The Beekeeper 2' Lands At Amazon For Theatrical Release

The hive is buzzing once more. The Beekeeper 2 has officially landed a global distribution deal with Amazon MGM Studios, signaling a major vote of confidence in the franchise's future. According to Deadline, the deal exceeds US$50 million, underscoring the studio's ambition to turn Jason Statham's vigilante saga into a full-fledged action series.
Statham will return as Adam Clay, the former covert operative turned apiarist with a vengeful streak. This time, directing duties will fall to Timo Tjahjanto, best known for The Night Comes for Us and the upcoming Nobody 2 . He replaces David Ayer, who helmed the original and is currently tied up with his next project, The Heart of the Beast , a Brad Pitt-led thriller for Paramount. Kurt Wimmer, who penned the first instalment, returns to script the sequel. With cameras set to roll this fall, the project is already drawing buzz, both for its returning lead and its new director, whose flair for stylised violence and kinetic pacing aligns with the world The Beekeeper established.
Released in January 2024, The Beekeeper was one of the year's early theatrical surprises. Despite modest expectations, it raked in over US$160 million globally, thanks to a straightforward revenge plot wrapped in fast-paced action and delivered with Statham's signature no-nonsense grit. Clay's mission, triggered by the suicide of his elderly landlady after a phishing scam, served as a modern vigilante fable, giving audiences a reason to cheer every broken bone and shattered computer screen. Alongside Statham, the film featured performances from Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, and Jeremy Irons, though casting for the sequel remains under wraps.
With a production budget of US$40 million and worldwide earnings nearing four times that amount, The Beekeeper outperformed expectations both critically and commercially. Rotten Tomatoes showed a respectable 71% critic score and a glowing 92% audience score, complete with a Verified Hot badge (rare for an R-rated actioner outside the superhero space). That kind of word-of-mouth gave it legs in theaters and a second life on streaming.
As production gears up for The Beekeeper 2 , audiences can likely expect more hive metaphors, more broken noses, and another mission that blurs the line between justice and vengeance.

Tom Cruise Teases Sequels for ‘Top Gun: Maverick' & ‘Days of Thunder'

Tom Cruise is keeping his engines running even as the Mission: Impossible saga races toward its finish line. In a recent chat with Today Show Australia, Cruise revealed he's 'working on' potential sequels for not just one, but two of his films: 2022's Top Gun: Maverick and the 1990 racing classic, Days of Thunder . 'We're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible,' Cruise shared. 'It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick , so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick .' And Cruise isn't slowing down. He added, 'There's numerous other films that we're actively working on right now. I'm always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film. I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant , and we'll be coming out with that. That was an extraordinary experience and ( Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie) and I are always working on several different films.' Top Gun: Maverick soared to US$1.49 billion at the global box office, while Days of Thunder – the film that first put Cruise behind the wheel as NASCAR's Cole Trickle – earned US$157 million worldwide back in the day. Both franchises have seen renewed fan interest, with Top Gun 3 already in early development at Paramount and Jerry Bruckheimer reportedly circling Days of Thunder 2 as well. Cruise's next big project? An untitled psychological thriller with Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu ( The Revenant ), set to premiere in 2026 and featuring a powerhouse cast including Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde. One thing's for sure: whether he's flying jets, burning rubber, or saving the world – Tom Cruise isn't parking his star power anytime soon. Everything changed when his parents bought him a PlayStation 2 for Christmas. Since then, he's been hooked on all things esports, video games, and music. If he's not livestreaming his shenanigans, he's probably out taking mirror-selfies with his friends, vigorously debating over the Internet's Meme of the Year. Bob Odenkirk Beats Up Baddies On Vacation In 'Nobody 2' Trailer

Universal has released the first trailer for its action sequel, Nobody 2 , featuring actor Bob Odenkirk reprising his role as ex-assassin Hutch Mansell as he tussles with thugs while on a family vacation. Following the events of the 2021 original, Nobody 2 will star Odenkirk alongside his fellow returning castmates Connie Nielsen ( Gladiator II ), RZA ( The Dead Don't Die ) and Christopher Lloyd ( Back to the Future ) as Hutch's wife Becca, his brother Harry and his father David, respectively. New cast members include Sharon Stone ( Basic Instinct, Total Recall ), who plays a ruthless crime-boss, and Colin Hanks ( Dexter, Fargo ), who plays a corrupted sheriff. The movie follows the Hutch family as they embark on a much-needed vacation, although things quickly go awry, with its trailer's description reading: Four years after he inadvertently took on the Russian mob, Hutch remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organization and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs. Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his 'job,' Hutch and his wife Becca find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids on a short getaway to Wild Bill's Majestic Midway and Waterpark, the one and only place where Hutch and his brother Harry went on a vacation as kids. With Hutch's dad in tow, the family arrives in the small tourist town of Plummerville, eager for some fun in the sun. But when a minor encounter with some town bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator and his shady sheriff, Hutch finds himself the focus of the most unhinged, blood-thirsty crime boss he has ever encountered. Nobody 2 was directed by Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto ( May the Devil Take You ), with its screenplay written by Derek Kolstad, who returns after working on the first film, alongside Odenkirk, Aaron Rabin ( Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan ) and Umair Aleem ( Extraction ). Nobody 2 will hit theatres on 15 August 2025. Kevin is a reformed PC Master Race gamer with a penchant for franchise 'duds' like Darksiders III and Dead Space 3 .
