With Rockets among top suitors, Suns reportedly closing in on Kevin Durant trade

The Houston Rockets are reportedly among the frontrunners to potentially trade for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant. But how soon could a deal actually get to the finish line? Per John Gambadoro, a Suns insider for Arizona Sports 98.7 FM in Phoenix, a trade is now expected to happen by next week — or even sooner! It's possible that an agreement could be reached while not finalizing a deal until early July — should either team need to wait until the NBA's 2025-26 fiscal year for tradable salary purposes. Advertisement (In the case of the Rockets, for trade purposes, Jalen Green has a salary of $12.5 million in June and $33.3 million in July.) 'I expect Kevin will be traded from the Suns next week,' said Gambadaro, who named the 'two Texas teams' (the Rockets and San Antonio Spurs) as Durant's most desired destinations. 'Outside shot that something happens sooner.' Durant played his college basketball at University of Texas in Austin. Reports have long indicated that a deal would likely get done by the June 25 first round of the 2025 NBA draft. But if the Suns are to land a first-round asset in a Durant deal — such as the No. 10 overall pick that Houston owns — it would be to their benefit to know in advance of the draft, thereby allowing Phoenix to go through deeper pre-draft scouting processes before making a selection. Advertisement So, even as the 2025 NBA Finals continue through this weekend and into early next week, it appears that talks surrounding a blockbuster Durant trade will enter their closing stages at around that same time. Stay tuned! A 6-foot-11 forward, Durant averaged 26.6 points (52.7% FG, 43.0% on 3-pointers), 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game last season, and he earned All-Star honors for the 15th time in his Hall of Fame career. The former Most Valuable Player (MVP) and two-time NBA Finals MVP is now 36 years old, and his current contract runs through next season. Conflicting reports emerge on Kevin Durant trade to New York Knicks

While others may or may not end up on the block, the NBA seems sure to have a superstar traded this offseason. But Kevin Durant isn't just a superstar, he's a first-ballot future Hall of Famer, and the Phoenix Suns are trying to find him a new team. So far, several contenders have been linked to a potential trade for Durant. Yet as it turns out, some of these contenders may actually be pretenders. Advertisement Despite an earlier report indicating that the Knicks have expressed a previous interest in trading for Kevin Durant, a conflicting update has now emerged. According to the New York Post's Stefan Bondy, the Knicks are 'not in the mix' to trade for Durant this offseason. While it's clear the Knicks won't be trading for Durant, it makes us wonder. If they already reached out, is it possible the Knicks simply didn't like the Suns' asking price for the 15-time All-Star? Perhaps a Durant trade is already further along than we think, with the Knicks already being eliminated from a group of finalists for the Suns' superstar. Either way, if the Knicks do once again go big-game hunting this offseason, it apparently won't be for Durant. Charles Barkley tells Phoenix Suns ‘screw Kevin Durant' get the best trade possible

Reports have claimed the Phoenix Suns will work with Kevin Durant and his representatives to move him to a preferred destination this summer. However, legendary TNT analyst Charles Barkley said on Wednesday night, 'screw' that. 'The Suns don't need to work with him. They need to get the best deal possible,' Barkley said during the pregame show for Game 3 of the NBA Finals. 'He's got one year left on his deal. His people are going to try and make it perfect for him. Screw that. Advertisement 'If I'm the Phoenix Suns, I'm like, 'You know what? We are going to make the best deal possible for our team. Kevin, we are not trying to find you the perfect situation for yourself.' Outside of being drafted by the Seattle Supersonics before they became the Oklahoma City Thunder, he has always dictated where he goes. He chose to land with the Golden State Warriors and the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. And he signed off on going to the Suns two years ago. He also shut down a trade back to Golden State in February. Barkley has a fair point, because letting the future Hall of Famer again choose where he wants to go does mean they will get the best deal possible. However, he could always threaten not to play if he went somewhere he didn't prefer. And at 36, it isn't impossible that he walks away from the sport. Charles Barkley thinks Phoenix Suns should trade Devin Booker this summer too? Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Barkley made it clear on ESPN's NBA Finals broadcast what he believes the team he played four memorable seasons for should do when it comes to Durant. However, he doesn't think the Suns should stop there with major changes this summer. In his opinion, they should also move homegrown superstar Devin Booker. Advertisement 'The team is gonna suck for the next few years,' said Barkley. 'They've got to start their rebuild. In my opinion, they have to trade Devin Booker and start to rebuild now.' While there were rumblings earlier this year about Phoenix moving the four-time All-Star so they could get out of payroll hell, owner Matt Ishbia has indicated he wants to get back to building around the 28-year-old superstar.
