Hurricane tracker: Cyclone Dalila path, location. Latest updates about tropical storm

Time of India17 hours ago

Tropical Storm Dalila has formed in the eastern Pacific Ocean just south of the southwestern coast of Mexico, forecasters said Friday. The
cyclone
is centered about 195 miles (315 kilometers) south of Zihuatanejo in Mexico's Guerrero state, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. The tropical storm had maximum sustained winds at 40 mph (65 kph). Dalila was expected to bring up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain to parts of Guerrero, Michoacán, and Colima states on Saturday.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for a portion of coastal Mexico west of Mexico City. Forecasters expect Dalila to move parallel to the coast but remain offshore. A storm gets a name when its sustained winds reach 39 mph, and it becomes a Category 1 hurricane when they reach 74 mph, AP reported.
A key ingredient for that is warm ocean waters, with temperatures at 80 degrees or above, and Jason Dunion, a meteorologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said many locations across the Atlantic had not quite reached that threshold.

The Atlantic hurricane season, which experts have warned is likely to have an above-average number of storms, has gotten off to a quiet start. Not a single tropical storm has formed since the season began June 1. The eastern Pacific, where
hurricane season
began on May 15 and where storms typically form before they do in the Atlantic, has been off to a busy start. Three storms have already formed off the west coast of North America: Alvin, Barbara and Cosme. Both seasons run through November 30, NYT News Service reported.

It is unclear if Typhoon Wutip has caused any deaths or injuries. Live Events Photos posted by a Chinese news outlet showed toppled trees and a strewn corrugated metal fence at a construction site in the city of Sanya, a popular beach resort on Hainan. All schools, construction sites and tourist attractions in Sanya were closed and flights were suspended at the city's airport, the official Xinhua News Agency said. A dozen crew members were rescued Thursday night from a cargo ship that called for help, Xinhua said. The crew were transferred to a rescue vessel in rough seas with 3-meter (10-foot) waves. Typhoon Wutip had maximum sustained winds of 119 kilometers (74 miles) per hour before it landed. Guangdong activated rescue boats and helicopters, and more than 49,000 fishing boats returned to port, Xinhua said. The provincial meteorological agency forecast heavy rain and said tornadoes were possible. Wutip means "butterfly" in Cantonese, which is spoken in Macao. Countries and the Chinese regions of Hong Kong and Macao contribute the names for storms during the typhoon season. The last time the island had the country's first typhoon landfall was in 2008 with Typhoon Neoguri. Neoguri means "raccoon" in Korean.

Rajasthan boils: Jaipur sees hottest morning of season, Sriganganagar at 49.4°C remains hottest in the country

JAIPUR: The relentless heat wave across Rajasthan reached alarming levels Friday, with Jaipur experiencing its hottest morning of the season, recording a minimum temperature of 33.6°C. Sriganganagar continued to take the grim title of the hottest place in the country, where temperatures soared to a scorching 49.4°C. As the mercury climbed, Jaipur's streets became eerily deserted during the sweltering afternoon hours, with the maximum temperature hitting 44.5°C, which was a staggering 4.4°C above the normal levels. The extreme heat led to significant challenges for residents, particularly in terms of access to drinking water and electricity. Many localities in Jaipur faced severe water shortages, while abrupt power cuts plagued various areas due to the overstressed power supply systems. The Meteorological department warned that there was no immediate relief in sight, with predictions indicating continued high temperatures in the coming days. However, in a brief respite, mild showers were reported in certain areas of the city, including Viswakarama Industrial Area and Harmada. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I Found Out None of Our 5 Kids Were Mine. In response to the crisis, local market associations stepped up efforts to provide drinking water for pedestrians and shoppers. Mohammed Zakaria, a councillor in Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Heritage), said, 'In order to ensure drinking water is available for people on the roads, we have made it available outside every temple and mosque in our area so that people may not face any problem while in the markets.' Businesses in the Walled City were severely impacted, with many shopkeepers, like Ramesh Jhalani from Haldiyon Ka Rasta, opting to close their shops early due to a lack of customers. 'These days, since no customers are coming, we prefer to go home in the afternoon,' he stated. The heat wave was not confined to Jaipur; cities such as Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh and Sangariya also saw a similar pattern, with civic authorities working to mitigate the effects by sprinkling water on the streets. Looking ahead, the Met office forecasts the possibility of mild showers in parts of the state on Saturday, particularly in Bharatpur, Udaipur and Kota divisions. Readings above 200 indicate poor or worse air quality. Meanwhile, the IMD said in an update on Friday that weather conditions have become favourable for further advancement of the Southwest monsoon across the country. Live Events Some more parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha will get monsoon rains during the next 2 days; over some parts of Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during the subsequent 3 days, IMD said. Besides, monsoon is likely to be in active phase with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy falls (>20 cm/24 hours) at isolated places over south peninsular India and Konkan and Goa during June 13-17, 2025. On the other hand, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are likely to continue over Northwest India, including Western Himalayan Region, during the next 2 days and reduce thereafter. Heat wave conditions prevailed at many places with severe heat wave conditions at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir, Haryana, West Rajasthan; Heat wave conditions at many places over Punjab; at some parts over East Rajasthan; at isolated places over Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh. The Southwest monsoon rainfall over India had stalled for two weeks after the early onset this year.
