Indore man wins battle for sword/knife license, but can't find a shop that sells
Indore: After a seven-year legal battle, a 57-year-old technical education facilitator from Indore has finally been granted a licence to possess a sharp-edged weapon by the district administration.

has got the licence, he has nowhere to buy such a weapon. He discovered that there is no licensed firm within the country that manufactures and sells sharp-edged weapons — an ironic hurdle in his pursuit.
Tomar has said that his intention behind seeking the licence was not only for personal protection but to draw attention to the criminal cases often unfairly lodged against tribal communities in western Madhya Pradesh for possessing swords, khukris and daggers that are integral to their agriculture and daily livelihoods.
He said that his legal fight commenced in 2017 after he studied the Arms Act of 1959 and filed numerous RTI applications to understand govt documents and legal intricacies related to such licences.
ADM Roshan Rai confirmed that Tomar has been issued a licence valid for three years, permitting him to keep one of the specified weapons — a sword, khukri or dagger — within Indore district limits until April 8, 2028. The licence was issued on the directive of Indore bench of MP high court, following the Indore divisional commissioner's order, as the application was initially rejected at the ADM's office, reportedly due to 'unclear instructions' regarding giving licences for sharp-edged weapons.
"I had to fight at many levels due to lack of clarity in Arms Act for the sharp weapon licence that costs only Rs 500. This fight was meant to generate public awareness," he said, adding his battle is half won as there is no licensed industry to manufacture and sell sharp-edged weapons. "I will now apply at the ADM office for further directions. If I fail to get any, I will again approach the court," he said.

CBI nabs 2 CMPF staff for bribe in Dhanbad
Dhanbad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested two employees of the Coal Mines Provident Fund (CMPF) while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the son of a retired Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) employee. Sources in the central investigative agency said that PF clerk Dhiraj Nishad and section officer Vishnu Prasad Gupta had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from the son of a retired BCCL staff to process the pension-related work of his father. CBI superintendent of police PK Jha said, "Two teams executed a coordinated trap based on the complaint. One team arrested clerk Dhiraj Nishad from the Bastakola office of the BCCL. During interrogation, he revealed that section officer Vishnu Prasad Gupta had instructed him to demand the bribe." "Acting upon this statement, another team approached Gupta pretending to be a relative of the complainant and offered the bribe. Gupta was caught red-handed while accepting the cash," he added. Both accused were taken to the CBI office for further interrogation. Strict action would be taken against the guilty, SP Jha stated.

Bribery probe: Properties linked to IAS officer Chakma searched
1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: Days after arresting IAS officer Dhiman Chakma, a resident of Tripura, on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a stone miner in Kalahandi district, the Odisha vigilance directorate on Wednesday conducted simultaneous searches at properties linked to his family and relatives in Tripura and Himachal Pradesh. Three teams carried out verification and searches at the residence of Chakma at Kanchanpur in North Tripura and at houses of his in-laws at Saminala in Kullu district and Rangbey in Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal. "Relevant documents related to deposits and investments in banks and other financial instruments among others were collected and scrutinised during the house search. Details of other movable and immovable assets are being ascertained from disproportionate assets (DA) angle," an official vigilance statement read. Chakma, a 2021-batch IAS officer, on his first posting as sub-collector in Dharamgarh, was arrested on June 8 at his official residence in Kalahandi, while receiving Rs 10 lakh — the initial instalment of a Rs 20 lakh demand — from one Harsha Bardhan Behera, who owns a stone crusher unit, the agency said. Subsequent searches at his quarters led to a stash of Rs 47 lakh in cash. "We are trying to find out the sources through which he accumulated the huge ill-gotten cash. If anyone paid him bribes previously, they should help us gather more evidence against him," an officer said. Following his suspension on June 10, Chakma remains in judicial custody.

CBI registers corruption case against former ONGC officials, others over fake bills worth Rs 45 lakh
New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against 10 accused including the then DGM (MS) and a Contractual Medical Officer (Occupational Health) of ONGC, Jorhat and Proprietors of 8 private medical shops on the allegation that accused public servants entered into criminal conspiracy with owners of private empanelled medical shops and unknown persons during 2019 to 2022, the agency said in a statement. According to CBI, it was alleged that the proprietors of 8 empanelled medical shops claimed false and bogus bills of Rs 45 lakhs raised on the basis of fake requisition slips for the issuance of medicines without the knowledge of beneficiaries of ONGC and their dependents. Searches were conducted in the different residential premises of all the above accused persons which led to recovery to some incriminating documents, CBI said. Investigation is underway. (ANI)
