England recover from 5-1 down in record draw with Germany at under-19 Euros
England recovered from a four-goal deficit to draw 5-5 with Germany on Tuesday, setting a new record for the highest-scoring game in Under-19 European Championship history.
In their second game of the tournament, England found themselves 5-1 down in the 48th minute, but four goals in 11 second-half minutes helped the young side earn an unlikely draw.
The 10-goal haul in Bucharest on Tuesday was one more than the previous tournament record of nine goals in a match, Spain's 8-1 victory over Cyprus in 2006 . Gerard Pique and Juan Mata both featured for the victors that day.
Germany looked on course for a comfortable win on Tuesday as goals from Barcelona's Noah Darvic and Said El Mala established a 2-0 lead just after the half-hour mark.
Fulham's Josh King pulled one back in the 35th minute, but Max Moerstedt and Leopold Wurm ensured Germany retired at half-time 4-1 up and in command.

El Mala made it 5-1 upon the restart, but Manchester United's Ethan Wheatley pulled one back seven minutes into the second half to England's remarkable comeback.
Tottenham Hotspur's Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny, Nottingham Forest's Zach Abottt, and Crystal Palace's Jesse Derry all scored to make it 5-5 in the 63rd minute. Despite six minutes of stoppage time, neither side was able to find a winner, and the game ended in a pulsating 5-5 draw.
The result leaves Germany, who lost their first game 3-0 to the Netherlands on Saturday, bottom of group B, while England, who were held to a 2-2 draw with Norway on the same day, are in second spot.
England face group leaders the Netherlands on Friday in their final group game.

Blackburn Rovers player completes transfer ahead of impending exit
Dilan Markanday will join Chesterfield when his Blackburn Rovers contract expires at the end of the month. Rovers have released the 23-year-old after opting against taking up the 12-month option in his contract. He will officially depart the club on June 30 after three and a half years at the club. Advertisement Markanday has found a new home, with familiar surroundings. He enjoyed an impressive loan spell with the Spireites at the start of last season, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in 24 games. That prompted Rovers to recall him and send him to Leyton Orient. He made a bright start but struggled for minutes as the campaign progressed, with the Os losing in the League One play-off final to Charlton Athletic. READ MORE: Blackburn Rovers squad numbers available to Dion De Neve and new signings Given his success at Chesterfield, it's little surprise to see him pen a three-year deal to make the move permanent. Advertisement 'I'm over the moon, really happy," Markanday said. "It just feels like coming back home. I'm just happy to get over the line and I just want to get back playing football again. 'I'm at my happiest when I'm playing football and there's no better environment than this to really help me do that.' Markanday could reunite with former Rovers team-mate Kyle McFadzean next season. He remains in discussions about extending his stay with the League Two club. The 38-year-old signed a short-term contract in January but Chesterfield's retained list confirmed that talks were ongoing to extend his stay. There has been no further update as to whether an agreement is close. John Fleck, who played 17 minutes in a Blackburn Rovers shirt, is in the same boat. Paul Cook's side were beaten in the play-off semi-final by Walsall after finishing seventh. They will be amongst the favourites for automatic promotion next season.

Football transfer rumours: Kudus in and Son out at Spurs? Joe Gomez to Sunderland?
Liverpool are believed to be willing to let Joe Gomez leave Anfield this summer and there are no shortage of suitors for the England international. Sunderland, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham, Leeds, and Burnley have formed a disorderly queue for the 28-year-old who is valued at £30m. Despite not having done business with West Ham since 2011 because he does not get on with the club's owners, the Tottenham Hotspur chair Daniel Levy is prepared to bite the bullet in an effort to bring Mohammed Kudus to north London. The Ghanaian has an £85m release clause on his contract but Spurs are believed to be preparing to test the waters with a £50m lowball offer. Advertisement The future of Son Heung-min at Tottenham Hotspur seems as up-in-the-air as Steph Houghton after that Leonardo Bonucci tackle during Soccer Aid on Sunday night but if the 32-year-old is to leave White Hart Lane after a decade of service, it will not be before his club's pre-season tour to south-east Asia later this summer. Spurs are scheduled to play Arsenal in Hong Kong on 31 July and have a friendly with Newcastle scheduled in Seoul three days later and given Son's huge popularity in his homeland, the tour's organisers have already signed him up for assorted off-field money-spinning activities. Fenerbahce and several Saudi Pro League clubs are rumoured to be interested in signing the Spurs skipper. Aston Villa's bean-counters have dusted off the club-branded pricing gun and slapped a tag of £40m on Jacob Ramsey as they bid to avoid falling foul of pesky Premier League profit and sustainability rules (PSR). With the 30 June deadline looming, we can probably expect to see various clubs selling kids nobody has ever heard of to each other for eye-watering sums in order to get their ducks in a row before the financial year ends but in Ramsey, Villa have a homegrown player whose sale will count as pure profit. The midfielder is currently the subject of interest from Tottenham and West Ham, who will no doubt leave it as late as possible to make their bids in order to try to force the player's price down. Having become frustrated in their efforts to sign Viktor Gyökeres due to Sporting's intransigence over their asking price for the Swedish striker, Arsenal remain hell-bent on buying Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig but have not ruled out the possibility of signing Ollie Watkins from Villa should they fail to land either of their two preferred strikers. Juventus are understood to have thrown their hat in the Gyökeres ring, having told the striker's representatives they are prepared to match his £11m per annum wage demands and are lining up a bid with which to tempt his stubborn Portuguese employers. Florian Wirtz has been booked in to run on a treadmill and cough for the Liverpool doctors later this week, while it looks like a matter of when, rather than if Milos Kerkez will complete his £40m move from Bournemouth to the Premier League champions. The arrival of the Hungarian international could prompt the departure of another Liverpool full-back to Madrid, with Andy Robertson the subject of ongoing interest from Atlético. We'll find out in due course if the Scotsman has been attending Spanish lessons with his good pal Trent Alexander-Arnold. Fulham, Leeds and Sunderland are all scrambling to sign Strasbourg's Senegalese midfielder Habib Diarra, while the two newly promoted sides in that trio of clubs are also interested in signing Celtic's American centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers. Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga is also wanted by Sunderland, who will have to fight off interest from Millwall's bitter rivals Crystal Palace if they are to secure his signature.

Liverpool starts Premier League title defense against Bournemouth while Man U hosts Arsenal
Liverpool players celebrate with the winner's trophy after the English Premier League soccer match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at the Anfield stadium in Liverpool, England, Sunday, May 25, 2025. (AP Photo/Jon Super) LONDON (AP) — Liverpool will begin its latest Premier League title defense at home to Bournemouth on Aug. 15, while Manchester United will host Arsenal in the opening round of next season. The Premier League released its fixture schedule for the 2025-26 season on Wednesday, giving teams and their fans a chance to start planning less than a month since the last campaign finished. Advertisement Liverpool will be bidding for a third league championship in six years, likely with Florian Wirtz in its squad, and will play the first match of the season in a Friday night start at Anfield against a Bournemouth team that finished in ninth place. It's quite a tough beginning for Arne Slot's champions, with a trip to Newcastle in the second round followed by a home match against Arsenal — another team in the Champions League — a week later. Arsenal, which finished second for a third straight year last season, heads to Old Trafford for its first game and will play Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle in its opening six matches. Everton bade farewell to its long-time home at Goodison Park at the end of last season and the first game in its state-of-the-art, 53,000-capacity stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock will be against Brighton on Aug. 23. Advertisement Thomas Frank 's first Premier League game in charge of Tottenham will be at home to promoted Burnley on Aug 16. That comes three days after Frank's competitive debut with Tottenham, the Europa League champion, against Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Sunderland's first Premier League game since the 2016-17 season is at home to West Ham, while Leeds hosts Everton first after returning to the top flight following a two-year absence. ___ AP soccer:
