Meet NorthJersey.com's adoptable pets of the week for May 16!
Each week, NorthJersey.com would like to highlight adoptable animals from local shelters and rescues.
If you foster, work at, or volunteer with a North Jersey animal shelter or rescue and know of some animals who are in need of a loving fur-ever home please send a photo, description and adoption information to amwallace@gannett.com to have your adoptable pets featured in the next edition.
This week we are featuring Leroy and Omar from Southern Paws Inc.
Leroy is an adorable 13-week-old Aussie, cattle dog and lab mix with a heart full of joy and a tail that never stops wagging. This playful little guy is bursting with energy, curiosity and charm. Whether he is chasing a ball, exploring new things, or just being his goofy, smart self, Leroy is always up for fun and adventure.
Don't let his playful side fool you, Leroy is also a cuddle bug who melts into your arms for cozy snuggles and sweet, quiet moments. He is the best of both worlds: spirited and snuggly.
Leroy is looking for a forever home where he can grow up loved, go on adventures, and shower his people with unconditional love. If you're looking for a best friend with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Leroy might just be your perfect match.
Omar is a 13-week-old lab and boxer mix with a heart as big as his puppy paws. This sweet boy is the perfect mix of playful energy and warm snuggles. He's a lovebug who gets along great with other dogs and is always ready to make new friends, both furry and human.
Omar's curious mind and clever nature make him a fast learner. He is eager to explore, discover, and soak up all the love and adventure life has to offer. Whether he's bouncing around with toys or melting into your lap for a cuddle, this charming pup is guaranteed to steal your heart.
Omar is looking for a forever home filled with joy, kindness and lots of belly rubs. He may be the perfect new addition to your family.
Southern Paws Inc. is a New Jersey-based nonprofit dog rescue that works with rescues and shelters in the southern United States to provide homes for dogs who would otherwise be euthanized due to overpopulation.

Gets Real: LGBTQ+ owned business in spotlight during Pride Month
A Seattle restaurant is cooking up delicious meals, all while breaking down barriers. During June, celebrating Gay Pride, KIRO 7 is highlighting local businesses owned by members of the LGBTQ-plus community. 'Fat's Chicken and Waffles' has been serving up chicken and waffles and a whole lot more in Seattle's Central District for a decade. The owner and main server happen to be a married couple, a couple of Erikas! They are a couple in business, a couple in life, too. And don't you dare misspell the first name they both share. 'It's E-R-I-K-A,' said Erika Kidd, laughing. 'And we are the Erikas!' chimed in Erika White. Erika White and her wife, Erika Kidd, delicately navigate the space at White's restaurant 'Fat's Chicken and Waffles' in Seattle's Central District. Why did you want to open a restaurant? White was asked. 'Ah, well, when I was growing up my father was a chef,' White said. 'So, you know, our house was like the host house and it was always like great parties and good food. And, you know, I love to cook as well.' But White had other loves, too. She was on the 1987 Garfield High School Girls' State Championship Basketball Team. And she was big in Seattle's hip-hop scene until the 2010s. That's when she reconnected with Erika Kidd and opened Fat's Chicken. 'It's been 10 years, all the way across the board,' Kidd said. 'Yeah, it's been a great journey, yeah.' 'You're both gay,' they were asked. 'Has that ever been a factor at all in your work, in your, in the way the community has treated you?' 'I mean, it's different for everybody, I guess, you know,' Kidd said. 'Family and friends and community, you know.' 'I feel like our friends, even our straight friends, you know everyone just, there's just love,' White said. 'At our wedding it was just love.' Fat's Chicken and Waffles is one of several LGBTQ-plus businesses featured by The Intentionalist, a Seattle-based social enterprise focused on giving incentives to the rest of us to spend our money here. 'Folks will be able to explore and hopefully discover LGBTQ-owned small businesses. Laura Clise is The Intentionalist's founder and CEO. 'Folks can enjoy a free treat thanks to the BECU equity in action pre-pay tab,' said Clise. 'And our hope is folks get a little taste and then come back for more.' A little taste of Pride, too. Eight LGBTQ-plus restaurants in the greater Seattle area are featured on the Intentionalist's website.

Ticker: ESPN's New York Shows Are on the Move
Top of the Ticker: ESPN is joining Good Morning America and ABC News' other programming at Disney's 7 Hudson Square HQ in Manhattan. The Disney-owned sports network is moving its New York-based shows from their perch at Seaport Studios, where they've been since 2018. Get Up will be the first show to air out of the new space on June 9, followed by First Take on June 23, alongside ESPN Radio's signature morning show UnSportsmanLike. New Promo: Meanwhile, GMA has debuted a new promo campaign that marks the start of its 50th anniversary celebrations. Titled 'Coming Home,' the promo features co-anchors Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan-as well as the show's extended family-visiting their respective hometowns. The promo could also be viewed as an indirect nod to the show's move from Times Square to its new home at 7 Hudson Square sometime this summer. Pride Celebrations: Speaking of ABC News, the network has announced programming initiatives to celebrate Pride Month. Airing across all dayparts and properties, coverage will feature reporting, interviews, and features highlighting people, stories, and issues important to the LGBTQ+ community. C-Span: C-SPAN debuted a refreshed on-air graphics look across its networks this week. 'Our new look was designed in-house with internal feedback as well as a review of comments from viewers over the years,' executive producer Paul Brown said in a statement provided to TVNewser. 'One of our primary goals was to enhance brand consistency by creating a unified look that eventually will run across all our platforms.' Brown also noted that C-SPAN's last major graphics occurred back in 2018. Increased tech coverage: Bloomberg is launching two new monthly tech programs, broadening its global coverage with region-specific offerings. Bloomberg Tech: Europe, anchored by Tom Mackenzie, debuts on June 13 at 1:30 a.m. ET; and Bloomberg Tech: Asia, co-anchored by Shery Ahn and Annabelle Droulers, premieres on June 27 at 8:30 p.m. ET. These programs complement the existing Bloomberg Tech, which airs at 11 a.m. ET, and recently unveiled a refreshed format with new branding and graphics.
