Rockford Restaurants compete to see which one has the best vegan food
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford restaurants are competing against each other to see which business has the best vegan menu items.
Diners will have the opportunity to vote on which items and restaurants are the best.
The contest runs until the end of March.
One participating restaurant is extremely excited about the chance to share its best vegan food with the community.
'Rockford's growing and becoming a wonderful downtown area and it's nice to be able to see all the [people] that are coming out for the first time that have never had our food,' said Disco Chicken Manager Krystle Testa.

Juneteenth celebration in Rockford to feature Lakeside funk band
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford will commemorate 'Liberation Day' for African Americans who were enslaved in the United States with the city's annual Juneteenth Celebration, on Thursday, June 16th. The event will be held at Sinnissippi Park, starting at 1 p.m. The celebration will include food vendors, retail vendors, local performances, stories and a celebration of history, a Community Awards Ceremony, karaoke contest, and a talent show hosted by Harlan Jefferson of Live at Levings. Hard Rock Casino Rockford has partnered with the city to bring funk band Lakeside, known for hits like 'Fantastic Voyage' and 'It's All the Way Live,' to perform at the casino at 8:30 p.m. Free tickets can be picked up at the Hard Rock Casino box office or at the Juneteenth Rockford Celebration. Thursday night, many folks got to know him on a deeper level at the third annual Diamonds Storytelling Gala in Rockford. VanVleet is known for always having 'bet on himself', so it's only fitting that this Diamonds event was held at Hard Rock Casino Rockford in the live was the third annual Diamonds event put on by the Founders Commission, a night to spotlight someone who grew up in the Rockford Region, and who has gone on to have tremendous success while also giving back to the Rockford first year the special guest was U.S. Navy Top Gun instructor Michael Andrews. Last year that individual was Rockford native and Grammy Award winner Michelle Williams.'This Diamonds Gala is really a great flagship program of the Founders Commission,' said the President of The Founders Commission Nick Povalitis. 'It really embodies what we're trying to do which is bring people back home.'The event emcee for the third straight year was ESPN SportsCenter anchor and nearby Roscoe, Illinois native Nicole Briscoe.
