TAIPEI: An influencer in Taiwan has come under fire for posting a sponsored video in which she used a vacuum cleaner to suck up a fried egg heavily sprinkled with pepper, sparking online condemnation for 'wasting food'.
On April 16, the 29-year-old influencer known as Sharonn.88, who has 114,000 followers online, posted a video to demonstrate the powerful suction of a vacuum cleaner in an endorsement deal with the company which makes it.
In her bio, the influencer, who used to teach English at a secondary school, says her primary focus is on women's fashion and Korean product purchasing services.
She also frequently posts appealing snapshots of her daily life to boost followers and her business.
In the video, she places a fried egg on a table and sprinkles pepper over it.
She intentionally left the lid of the pepper container loose, causing an excessive amount of pepper to spill over the egg.
To address the mess, she introduced the product she was promoting, a portable, purple vacuum cleaner.
She then tried to use it to suck up the pepper but accidentally vacuumed the entire fried egg into the machine.
However, instead of seriously addressing the mishap, she laughed it off, attempting to turn it into a humorous moment, which caused dissatisfaction online.
The vacuum cleaner, which sells for NT$2,990 (US$92), was featured in a product link available in her online bio.
This link directs followers to an official website where they can buy many of the items she promotes, including cosmetics, clothing, and boots.
The video, originally intended as a marketing gimmick, sparked backlash on social media, with viewers denouncing her for wasting food.
One person said: 'Trying to make topics does not justify wasting food. Watching her laugh while leaving the lid open made me want to smack her.'
Another person wrote: 'It is honestly quite offensive. Unless she plans to retrieve and eat the egg, wasting food like this is really bad for her image and could cost her followers. She should be grateful she lives in a time when she does not have to struggle for food.'
'This is clearly imitating content from creators in other countries who perform similar food-wasting stunts for views,' a third person said.
The online backlash prompted the influencer to issue a public apology online.
'I just wanted to create unique content using trending online concepts but failed to consider the consequences of wasting food. I deeply regret my behaviour and will make amends,' she said.
The woman later deleted the video from her homepage, but it remains accessible in her highlights.
According to EBC News, the influencer bought a mansion at the age of 28 using her earnings from a Korean fashion selling business.
She has also attracted a significant following by sharing glimpses of her luxurious home and personal lifestyle. - South China Morning Post

#SHOWBIZ: Dua Lipa confirms engagement to English actor Callum Turner
LONDON: Singer Dua Lipa is officially off the market. In a recent news report, the pop superstar confirmed her engagement to British actor Callum Turner, revealing he proposed with a custom-designed diamond ring, made with help from Dua's sister Rina and her closest friends. "Yeah, we're engaged. It's very exciting," the 29-year-old English and Albanian singer, songwriter and actress told British Vogue. Speaking about the ring, she gushed, "I'm obsessed with it. It's so me. It's nice to know the person you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well." The couple, who began dating in January 2024, haven't set a wedding date yet, with both currently focused on work commitments. "I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting – so we're just enjoying this period," Lipa shared. She admitted that planning a wedding wasn't something she ever fantasised about, but her mindset is now shifting. The 'Dance the Night' singer also expressed her hopes of starting a family one day, though she's unsure how it would align with her demanding schedule. "I'd love to have kids one day," she said. "But it's like the constant question of when and how it would fit with my job, touring, and how much time I'd need to take off. I think it's just going to happen when it happens." Their love story had an almost cinematic quality. Before officially meeting, Lipa and Turner, 35, unknowingly crossed paths multiple times in what she described as "many Sliding Doors moments." Their first real introduction happened at London's River Cafe. A year later, fate intervened again: she ran into him at a dinner in Los Angeles.

(Video) Malaysian Fans Celebrate Rapper B.I Wearing Baju Melayu During Fansign In Korea
Other than sampling our local delicacies, it's always exciting to see our favourite K-pop idols donning traditional attire. In recent years, several idols, including members of ATEEZ and GOT7's Mark Tuan, have been spotted wearing the Baju Melayu. The only difference is that the former wore them during a fansign event in South Korea, while the latter did so during his visit to Malaysia. Just like ATEEZ, it seems we've got another K-pop idol who went viral after being gifted the Malaysian traditional attire. It's none other than Kim Hanbin (김한빈), also known as B.I (비아이), who donned a Baju Melayu on during a recent fansign event in his home country! Full story below: As you may have already heard, Korean rapper-singer B.I will be making his way to our shores for his 'The Last Parade Tour' in Kuala Lumpur later this year. Following a spectacular performance in 2024, complete with what felt like a never-ending encore, fans have been eagerly awaiting his return. It seems some couldn't wait any longer and decided to send him an early gift from Malaysia. During his recent fansign event in South Korea over the weekend, the 'Tasty' singer received a set of Baju Melayu (Cekak Musang style), complete with a Songkok and Sampin. With the help of a staff member, the 28-year-old put on the traditional attire onstage during the event. Photos and videos of him in Baju Melayu quickly went viral on social media, with Malaysian fans expressing their excitement and delight at seeing their favourite artist wearing the outfit. Many described how handsome B.I looked in the Baju Melayu, while others praised the fan who prepared the gift for choosing a colour that suited him perfectly, even pointing out how the sampin complemented his current hair colour. Another video circulated showing a fan interacting with the idol about Malaysian fans' positive reaction to the viral photos, to which he admitted that the outfit was a little too small for him. This was evident, as he was seen struggling to put on and take off the top of the traditional attire. Hopefully, he will soon receive a Baju Melayu set that fits him better when arrives in Malaysia later in September. What do you think of B.I in his Baju Melayu? ‘Support of art should be collective mission for all Sarawakians'
(From left) Ling, Ngu, BEM Hosanna Church pastor Hii Mee Yieng and Tiang with one of the artworks at 'Encounter' in Sibu. Art fosters unity and understanding across Sarawak's multicultural society, says Datuk Michael Tiang. The Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government emphasised that the state's cultural richness came from more than 30 ethnic groups who found common ground through artistic expression. 'Art, whether it is music, dance, drama, painting, literature or film, is a universal language. 'It transcends boundaries of nationality, politics, race, religion and background. 'In a world that often emphasises differences, art reminds us of our shared humanity,' he said at the opening of an art exhibition themed 'Encounter' at Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Hosanna Church in Sibu. Tiang also described art as a medium that told stories of identity, heritage and hope for the future, saying, 'Art is the bridge that connects us. 'It allows us to experience life from one another's perspective. 'It provides a safe space for dialogue, expression and healing.' He also spoke of the importance of arts education, particularly for youth, calling it a necessity rather than a luxury. 'Art inspires confidence, creativity and connection. 'In this age of globalisation where identities are becoming fragile, art helps young people solidify their identity while learning to respect others,' he added. Tiang, who is Pelawan assemblyman, said Sarawak government remained committed to supporting the cultural and creative sectors. He cited major initiatives such as the Borneo Cultural Museum – the largest in Malaysia and second-largest in South-East Asia – and the upcoming Sarawak Performing Arts Centre slated for completion in 2027. However, he stressed that the responsibility of promoting the arts should not fall solely on the government. 'It is our collective mission to support and celebrate the arts.' On the exhibition being held at BEM church, Tiang said: 'What excites me is seeing artists come together to express a spiritual journey that touches on faith and the revelation of God. 'I hope this exhibition spreads positive energy and inspires people to stand up for social justice and be law-abiding citizens,' he said. The seven-day exhibition was curated by Clara Ling Boon Ing and Ngu Mei Cui. Ling, from Sitiawan, Perak, is an artist and lecturer with a Master of Arts and PhD in Art-Based Studies. Her work blends visual art, literature and cultural studies to explore themes such as identity, memory and spirituality, through exhibitions, installations and performances. Ngu is a part-time artist and art teacher from Sarawak. She majored in English Linguistics and completed her Master of Fine Arts in Penang. She has participated in art exhibitions at Loft 29 and Hin Bus Depot in Penang. She is also actively involved in church ministry, transforming religious teachings into visual art which, in turn, becomes a medium of faith and service.
