Saddier celebrates first World Tour title in Italy

The Advertiser5 hours ago

Adrien Saddier has claimed a maiden DP World Tour title with a two-shot win in the Italian Open at the Argentario Golf Club.
Making his 200th appearance on the Tour, the 33-year-old Frenchman lost ground on the front nine after following up a birdie at the second with bogeys at the fourth and eighth.
But he found his stride on the back nine, where a run of four birdies in five holes from the 10th saw him climb to the top of the leaderboard.
He then made another gain on the 16th to open up a three-shot advantage and parred the last two holes to card a four-under 66 and mark his landmark appearance in the best possible way.
He finished on 266, 14 under par and two shots ahead of compatriot Martin Couvra, who had taken a one-shot lead in the closing round.
Couvra had four birdies along with three bogeys on Sunday en route to a final-round 69.
Scotland's Calum Hill and England's Dan Bradbury shared third on 10 under par, while France's Clement Sordet and Germany's Nicolai von Dellingshausen finished joint fifth a further shot back.
Among the Australian contingent, Daniel Gale carded a final-round 68 to finish 11 shots behind the leader. Danny List's early promise continued to fade and he finished on 281, with David Micheluzzi on 284.

Carlton defender Jack Silvagni in doubt for clash against Collingwood

Carlton's woes threaten to worsen with important key defender Jack Silvagni in serious doubt for Friday night's date with Collingwood. 7NEWS understands the 27-year-old pulled up sore from the Blues' drubbing at the hands of Port Adelaide with his ongoing groin complaint. Silvagni was part of the rehab program which trained away from the main group at IKON Park on Monday morning. And there are fears a potential stint on the sidelines could extend into multiple weeks with games against Brisbane, Melbourne and Hawthorn to come. Silvagni was subbed out of the Round 10 loss to Sydney with a groin injury and missed the following week before the Blues' mid-season bye. He played just six minutes of the final term against the Power. The son-of-a-gun, who has this season switched from attack to defence, is one of few Blues to have improved in a disastrous 2025 campaign. The Blues sit three-and-a-half games outside the eight with eight matches remaining. Silvagni this year qualifies for unrestricted free agency, however is in contract talks to extend his deal. His latest concern comes as Jacob Weitering nurses an ankle complaint that hobbled his output against the Power. The All-Australian defender was with the main group on Monday morning. Half-back Adam Saad will miss against the Pies after he was concussed last Thursday. Teenage key back Harry O'Farrell was a travelling emergency for the trip to Adelaide and will be in the frame should Silvagni miss. O'Farrell debuted when Silvagni was sidelined in Round 11. Under-siege coach Michael Voss would also have the option of moving Mitch McGovern back to defence full-time or asking Nick Haynes to play taller against the Pies. Craig McRae's side went with four genuine key forwards in Saturday night's win against West Coast — Brody Mihocek, Tim Membrey, Dan McStay and debutant Charlie West. Carlton is currently without Harry McKay (knee), Sam Walsh (foot), Nic Newman (knee) and Matt Cottrell (foot) from its first-choice line-up.

AC/DC smash ticket sales record for upcoming Aussie tour

AC/DC have smashed ticket sales records, with more than 320,000 fans snatching seats for the legendary rock band's upcoming Australian tour across multiple cities. Ticketek, the official ticketing provider for the Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth shows, said last Thursday marked the largest concert on-sale day in its 40-year history, eclipsing AC/DC's previous record for its Black Ice World Tour in 2009. In total, over 370,000 tickets were sold in a single day, setting a new all-time high for daily sales on the Ticketek platform and surpassing the previous record set during The Ashes on-sale earlier in June. In addition to the hundreds of thousands of tickets sold for AC/DC, almost 50,000 tickets were sold across Ticketek's broader event portfolio, including key performances from Lightscape, the NRL, AFL and major theatre productions. 'These results are a reflection of the collaboration, passion, and sheer effort from every part of our business. I'm incredibly proud of what the team has accomplished,' Cameron Hoy, Ticketek Entertainment Group's Head of Global Ticketing, said. Popular Australian rock band Amyl and the Sniffers have been announced as the opening act. The tour shares its name with AC/DC's 2020 album, which earned the band its third #1 debut on the Billboard 200. For the European leg of the tour in 2024, the band sold 1.7 million tickets in the first few days. Their last show in Australia was at Marvel Stadium, then called Etihad Stadium, in December 2015 as part of their Rock Or Bust World Tour. Melbourne — November 12 and 16 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground Sydney — November 21 and 25 at Accor Stadium Adelaide — November 30 at Adelaide Street Circuit for the BP Adelaide Grand Final Perth — December 4 and 8 at Optus Stadium Brisbane — December 14 and 18 at Suncorp Stadium

'Scared' Picklum leads the way after victory in Brazil

Australian surfer Molly Picklum has shown why she's top of the women's World Surfing League standings, claiming her first win on tour this season in Saquarema, Brazil. After beating Canadian Erin Brooks 13.06 to 7.60 earlier on Sunday (Monday AEST) in the second semi-final, Picklum took on local Luana Silva in the final of the Vivo Rio Pro, stop 9 of the competition. Picklum opened with a 6.83 and followed it up with the highest single wave score of the event for the women, an 8.17. Her final total of 15.00 was also the highest of the event for the women at Praia de Itauna. Silva's best two-wave score totalled 9.23, well short of being able to stop Picklum winning for the third time. "She's (Silva) been surfing so well. I knew she's such a competitor and she's such a fighter," said the 22-year-old from Gosford. "I was pretty scared all the way till the end even though I had a couple of good scores. But yeah, she's capable of great things and I'm so happy to get that one over her." The WSL Tour's most consistent women's surfer in 2025 - reaching the quarter-finals in eight out of nine events, including three Finals - Picklum enjoys top spot with just two regular-season events remaining on the calendar. "I've worked so hard this year to really put my best foot forward," she added. "I've dreamt so much of winning here in Rio, too. I'm a real energetic person, I love the Brazilian energy, and to get a win this year means so much for sure. "Thank you so much and shout out to everyone back at home. I know you're all probably up watching and I felt all the love." In the men's draw, Aussie Ethan Ewing was beaten in the semis by American Griffin Colapinto, 14.84 to 14.20, after earlier downing defending champion and home hope Italo Ferreira (14.43-13.30) in the quarters. Colapinto was then out-gunned 16.90 to 14.40 by compatriot Cole Houshmand in the decider, who went two-for-two in CT Finals, backing up his 2024 breakthrough win at Bells Beach with another victory.
