Melodic house group Mistier reveal playlist ahead of latest release Waiting
AS they continue to redefine the boundaries of melodic house music, US-based group Mistier invite listeners on an emotional and immersive journey with their latest release, Waiting.
With support from dance music royalty, such as Armin van Buuren, Will Clarke, and Roger Sanchez, Mistier have carved out a unique space in contemporary electronic music.

The visual art collective is led by vocalist, producer, and composer Andre Mistier. While he serves as the creative core of the project, Mistier collaborates with a network of artists and producers to bring their immersive sound to life.
Waiting, is their most profound release to date, a vocally rich, soul-stirring track that blends euphoric grooves with poetic lyricism.
Inspired by the luminous, transformative moments of sunrise at Burning Man in the Nevada Desert, Waiting captures a search for connection and meaning amid a kaleidoscope of synths, rhythms, and live instrumentation.

Ben Bohmer – Breathing
It's really just a beautiful song. The mood, the vocal performance and tone, the production. I feel like everything I love about Ben Bohmer is encapsulated in this track. Breathing was a definite influence on our next single, called Waiting.
Mistier – Waiting
I wrote this track thinking about a moment at Burning Man during sunrise, watching people bike by, waiting for my girlfriend (now wife) to arrive.
Thinking about how all these people were off on their own explorations and adventures, and all of them are different lives and journeys (what would life be like if I was one of that group?). Then reaffirming that I was where I wanted to be, waiting for the person I wanted to be with.
I wanted this track to evoke the mixed feelings of sadness, longing, joy, and the haunting and beautiful quality of sunrise.
Panama & Tinlicker - Fade Into Black
I love Tinlicker! Their combination of beautiful melodies, powerful grooves, and stirring transitions always uplifts me.
This track is a particular favourite - I feel like the combination of Panama's gorgeous vocals and lyrics with Tinlicker's swelling sound just gives me something I need all of the time.
I often listen to this track as the first thing I do when I step outside in the morning.
Aaron Hibell, Alex Wann - Set Me Free
I love his mix of afro and melodic house - it can feel so uplifting and poignant at the same time.
Besides his well-crafted and beautiful sound, Alex Wann has a gorgeous touch with how he builds and leads the energy into his drops.
I feel the same energy and elevation inside me every time I reach those moments in this track, no matter how many times I hear it. I have definitely been inspired by how he does that and studied it for my current writing and productions.
Mistier - The Time Is Now
The Time is Now celebrates a couple of important ideas to me. First, that there truly is no moment but the present. Every moment is a now, the past a use of the present for recollection and the future a use of the present for projection.
Once you accept this, then every moment as being now is connected, one infinite now. Second, get up! There is no other time but now. There is no point in waiting - we have this moment to do what we will, so seize your life! Also, I love the bassline for this track. . .
CamelPhat, Yannis - Hypercolour (ARTBAT Remix)
CamelPhat and ARTBAT are 2 of my absolute favourite artists. Yes, their combination for "For a Feeling (feat. Rhodes)" is also great, but this track, to me, is one of my all-time favourites.
The break and build-back that starts at 3:10 is so intense and dramatic that it just takes my head off. This is everything I like about each of these artists wrapped together and flung off the top of a majestic cliff.
There is a short version but treat yourself to a full 8-minute extended version. You deserve it.
Rufus du Sol - Surrender
A couple of years ago, for my wife's birthday, we tried something called KAP (Kundalini Activation Process). It's meant to be a high-powered jump into activating your Kundalini.
We all had very different reactions, but mine was the most intense visual trip of my life (involving no substances). Swathes of pastel colours - at one point, I was rowing through the sky - at another, riding a hippo on a rainbow. It was intense and vivid!
The high point of this experience was when this beautiful song came on. And, wouldn't you know it, a peaceful summer rain started right as he began to sing, "Let the rain come down."
That was actually the first time I had ever heard this song. It was a tremendous experience and one that I vividly remember every time I hear it.
Mistier - In You (Lost & Found)
I am amazed and delighted by how love can fulfil such contradictory needs in us at the same time. I am overwhelmed and lost in you. I am found and safe in you. You make me feel like I am so powerful. Your opinion means more to me than my own etc.
What we see in ourselves through becoming truly vulnerable to another person is just remarkable and life-affirming. That's what this song is about.
Francis Mercer, Nitefreak, Idd Aziz - Kamili
To me, afro house at its best can evoke so many feelings at the same time. This gorgeous track is intense, haunting, joyful, good to dance in the sunlight, in the moonlight, good to walk in the rain, good for cooking, good for the car . . . you get the idea. It moves me deeply in basically any context I have ever heard it.
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes (Secret World Live)
If you were alive in the 80s or have ever seen a John Hughes movie, this is likely an incredibly important song to you. But honestly, if you are a human being with a heart and soul, this song either is or should be an important song to you.
Peter Gabriel is connected to truth, and this love song has such specificity. It's just one of the greatest songs of all time. But this live version takes it to a whole other level - from 4-minute pop song to 10-minute afro-fused anthemic festival of joy, love and music.
It's both one of the most anthemic music experiences ever and yet still nonchalant at the same time. It feels so pure and authentic. And the singing! Wow! Knocks me over every time.
To me this song is where the mix of afro house and melodic house that really moves me got its start, in both sound and mood.

As someone who interviewed Sophie twice right in the thick of her struggles, I know she's different from some of the ultra-superficial women who grace our screens in their bikinis. When I first spoke to Manchester-based Sophie, she was 23, and it was days before Christmas 2018. Fabulous was one of the first publications to share her story with the world. Airy and bright during our chat, you'd have no idea what she was going through without visual proof. Her attitude was amazing, especially for someone so young. A professional fire dancer, Sophie was permanently scarred when an air-con unit blew flames back into her face in a freak accident in April 2018. After her face went up in flames, she spent a month in intensive care, and emerged from the trauma with a whole new attitude on life. In her own words, the accident made Sophie 'toughen up and grow a thicker skin'. She told me: 'I just have to accept myself for me. I think sometimes people stare because they don't know how to ask. It's not intentionally rude, I think they're just curious and don't know what to say. "I never mind if people ask about my scars, then I can educate more people about what happened.' Love Island weight loss plans, makeovers and even non-surgical tweakments are now common-place among the contestants, all religiously documented on social media as the competitive TV show enters its 10th year. All Stars' Gabby Allen even flogged her pre-villa fitness plan when she emerged as the show's most recent winner. Love Island's New Star Fire Breather Sophie Lee's Shocking Injury Story Sophie, who had a five-figure following as an influencer well before Love Island came knocking, wasn't immune to body confidence concerns before her accident. She told me: 'In school I went through that phase of 'oh, I'm massive, I'm this and that,' because I think you naturally do when you're that age. 'Everyone's judging each other, you're growing boobs, you're like 'oh, I don't know what this is'. I think everyone kind of has body issues going through high school. 'All my friends had big boobs or had legs, and I've always been a bit up and down on the scale of my weight. 'Especially with the industry I was in (of dance and performing), I was always scrutinised for how you look. "But with this accident it's crazy. Keloids are benign tumours which grow in areas of trauma and are more common in people with olive or black skin, or in Sophie's case having Chinese heritage. She said: "Dancing's all about getting dressed up, glitz and glam, I've always loved that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not myself and I know I'll never be myself again. "That's something I have to accept and it has been hard to accept that - but also without this scar I would be dead. That's the way I look at it, I don't look at it as a burden.' We spoke for a second time in June 2019, just weeks after Sophie had ground-breaking cryo surgery. Never one to shy away from the gruesome details, or hide behind edited pics, Sophie's PR pitched the story to me with an email entitled 'My face came off in my hands.' Without this scar I would be dead. That's the way I look at it, I don't look at it as a burden Sophie Lee Explaining the NHS-funded op at the time, Sophie said: "The scar started to die and then my face basically fell off. Liquid nitrogen was pumped in to kill it. "At first it went massive, like it had been pumped up with water. It tripled in size, it was horrendous. 'In hospital I just felt like a giant slug, I couldn't move or do anything. "Then it just started leaking liquid nitrogen. Over the space of two months, it was starting to dry out and peel away. "It was horrendous, the skin was dying and it was on my face. I couldn't really move my neck, it was just so painful. The scar started to die and then my face basically fell off. At first it went massive, like it had been pumped up with water. It tripled in size, it was horrendous Sophie Lee "When it actually detached I couldn't feel anything, because it had already died. "But at the start it was really raw, fresh skin. Showering was unbearable. "For a good month I couldn't really do anything. I had to change the dressings at least twice a day - they were soaking wet all the time. "I couldn't leave the house because I had to take so many dressings and pads with me." 10 Sophie's story will be what sets her apart from the other Love Islanders Credit: sophirelee/Instagram 10 Sophie's scars were 'angry and violent' before she had them removed Credit: Instagram/@sophirelee She now keeps her dead skin in the freezer, in a small Tupperware box, explaining it's "next to the peas, no big deal". Sophie, who's been celibate for eight months, had the treatment in March 2019, as her tumours threatened to engulf her face. She told me: "Keloid scarring is a form of benign tumour, it was going to carry on growing and slowly overtake my face. "It was very painful and becoming a big burden. I had started to lose movement on my neck, because it was growing so rapidly. "The scars got so big you couldn't see my neck, it came down to my chin. "Because of my ethnicity, being Chinese, it was really angry and violent. "The longer I left it, the bigger the keloids would have gotten. I was in so much pain and it was starting to alter my expressions on my face." 10 She now keeps her dead skin 'in the freezer, next to the peas' Credit: Instagram 10 Sophie has always wanted to turn what happened to her into a positive Credit: Instagram Sophie always wanted to turn what had happened to her into a positive, raising awareness of injuries even in her early 20s. She said: 'I've got a younger sister who's 16 years old, that was the age when I was comparing myself a lot. 'And I just want her to know that, your big sister can still do it and represent girls, I want her to feel proud of me. 'She looks up to a lot of my friends, looks up to me and I want to be that good example for her. 'It's important to mould the next generation, not the current generation. I want to put them in a good mindset.' Despite Sophie's sunny disposition, she was clearly hugely affected by what had happened to her, which may be why it's taken her six years to say yes to Love Island (I'd be stunned if they hadn't approached her for previous years). She told me in 2019: "I try not to think negatively, but I am in pain and you do think 'when is this going to be over?' I'm constantly suffering. "Even now I can't go outside when it's sunny without having to cover up my whole face, because it's fresh skin and I'll get burnt really fast. 'I wear a black mask to protect it. It's healed underneath but just to be safe. "I don't want to risk getting burnt, it's not worth it. I'm still healing. "But I am in the best hands and it's important to talk about the good and the bad, because that means I can help others in this situation. "I'm a normal person, I have feelings, I'm not just living this amazing life. I do have my down days, and it's OK to feel like that." As Sophie jets off to sunny Mallorca to enter the villa on Monday, where temperatures are reaching 32C, the lack of black mask will be a stark reminder of how far she has come.

This boutique Melbourne hotel was just honoured with a major style and design award
Hands up if the name La Liste rings a bell? You may recognise it as the Paris-based restaurant ranking guide that unveils an annual list of its top 1,000 restaurants – last year, it crowned Melbourne's very own fine diner Vue de Monde as the best restaurant in Australia (and fifth in the whole world). Now La Liste is back with a hotly anticipated 2025 guide to the most outstanding hotels around the globe. And you may be surprised to hear that a new boutique accommodation in Fitzroy has been awarded a very special accolade. The StandardX – an uber-cool, industrial-style venue that we reviewed in November 2024 – is among just five hotels to receive the prestigious Style and Design Award. These are hotels that have been either "launched or refurbished with outstanding design". La Liste called the StandardX "arty, bold and unfiltered", and it shared the honour with Maison Heler Metz in France, ÖÖD Hekla Horizon in Iceland, Reschio Hotel in Italy and Ulaman Eco Luxury Resort in Indonesia. The hotel only opened in August 2024, and is the first StandardX iteration from famed hotel chain the Standard. Described as "the rebellious younger sibling", it boasts 125 rooms over eight floors, as well as an all-day Thai street food-inspired restaurant called Bang, a rooftop bar with panoramic city views and a retail offering. Led by Melbourne-based interior design firm Hecker Guthrie, the styling elements blend the grittiness of Fitzroy with modern comforts – think rustic finishes, plenty of greenery, caramel leather couches and an epic red revolving front door. "It's bougie, for sure, but still artsy enough to feel like it belongs to the northside," says Time Out Melbourne's food and drink writer, Lauren Dinse. "The designers have taken inspiration from Fitzroy's post-punk 'Little Band' scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s, paying homage to its music venues, street art and café culture – historic pulse points of this vibrant 'hood."
