Ex-minister Greg Hands to advise Royal Mail after takeover by 'Czech Sphinx' billionaire

A former trade minister has been appointed as an adviser to the new owner of Royal Mail. Greg Hands, who lost his seat as a Conservative MP in last year's election, will advise Daniel Kretinsky's EP Group on business matters in the UK and Germany. The appointment came as Royal Mail's parent company, International Distribution Services (IDS), formally left the London Stock Exchange after being bought by Czech billionaire Kretinsky. The departure from the stock market also saw a number of IDS board members resign, including chairman Keith Williams. The £3.6billion takeover by Kretinsky saw the more than 500-year-old firm fall into foreign hands for the first time.

Nicola gives zero ‘f***s' & Brooklyn wants to be in control – a blow-by-blow account of what big interview really means

JUST when I thought the guns had fallen silent in the Beckhams' feud . . . Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz have taken aim and finally had their say. Despite questions about David and Victoria being firmly 'off limits' in a new interview with a glossy magazine, Brooklyn and Nicola got in a few well-placed jabs at them. They hit back at claims Nicola felt upstaged by Posh at her wedding — labelling their big day 'overwhelming'. And they described Nicola being portrayed as a narcissistic monster 'fake news' which is 'not worth' defending. Other subtle jibes include Brooklyn, 26, snubbing the tattoos he had in tribute to his parents, and picking 'Nicola's eyes . . . or our wedding vows' as among his favourite inkings. And pointing out that his hot sauce was branded 23 in a nod to him and his wife — despite his team previously suggesting it was a 'warm nod' to his footballer father's shirt number. The couple spoke to Germany's Glamour magazine, kissing in front of the cameras against a white backdrop as they posed in designer clobber for a very loved-up photoshoot. Yet every word they said appeared meticulously planned to pack a punch in all the right places. In all my years writing about this famous family, I've learned that even the minutiae is treated with meticulous care to protect brand Beckham. And as Brooklyn has found himself an outsider, he seems to be cleverly positioning himself as the leader of his own brand — with his all- American sidekick. On Saturday, we revealed how the US actress had burst into tears on their big day after the wedding singer Marc Anthony had called Posh 'the most beautiful woman in the room' at the reception in Palm Beach, Florida. Nicola, 30, had already had a run-in with Victoria over her wedding dress — with the bride-to-be alleging she had been ghosted by the Spice Girl when she asked her to design the gown. But in the new interview, Nicola wryly mused: 'A wedding can be overwhelming.' Tellingly, Nicola went on to say of their big day: 'It's good to focus for a moment on what it's really about: The two of us.' That's right, not Marc, nor Victoria nor David. Brooklyn's own take on their special day in April 2022 was also eye- opening, as he centred on the motor ride after the wedding ceremony at the Peltz family's estate. Instead of picking the moment he clapped eyes on his bride, he said: 'One of my fondest memories remains the short car ride after the ceremony.' And with the beauty of hindsight, I'm sure he would have got in that stunning blue Jaguar with Nicola and skipped the reception altogether. Not only would his wife not have been in tears and called a 'spoilt brat' for crying over Marc's sycophancy, but he wouldn't have had to listen to the singer swooning over his mum. 11 Nicola added: 'At times, we even considered eloping to Las Vegas.' Elsewhere in the interview, the pair pointedly snapped back at reports regarding Nicola and the state of her relationship with Brooklyn's family. Those close to the Beckham family have said they are concerned Nicola has become a controlling presence in Brooklyn's life — with him no longer speaking to his parents or his siblings. Contact with his grandparents is also said to have been cut, with the family fearing he was being 'held hostage' by Nicola, who is accused of being hell bent on driving a wedge between them. But sources close to Nicola have been firing back, claiming she is being painted as the Gen Z version of Meghan Markle. They say she has done nothing but be a loving and devoted wife. Nicola questioned the narrative being driven — that she is a narcissistic monster — as 'fake news'. There will always be people who talk. The important thing is that we're happy together Brooklyn The line will no doubt have pleased her billionaire, Trump -supporting dad Nelson, given the US President's penchant for calling anything he doesn't like 'fake news'. Nicola added: 'I'd love to deny it immediately, but it's not worth it.' Brooklyn added: 'Don't listen to all the nonsense. Keep your head down, work hard, stay friendly. 'There will always be people who talk. The important thing is that we're happy together.' It's just a shame the talking isn't happening between him and his parents. Brooklyn has more than 100 tattoos and, in the interview, he was asked about which are 'particularly important' to him. Tellingly, a massive heart on his left shoulder with 'mum' written inside it, which he got in 2018, doesn't get a mention. Nor does the one dedicated to his dad, which saw him ink David's middle name Joseph — the same moniker handed down to Brooklyn — on his lower left arm three years ago. 11 11 Instead, Brooklyn said: 'Some mean a lot to me, like Nicola's eyes on my neck or our wedding vows. 'I also have the Star of David and a tattoo honouring my grandfather.' In what could be seen as a dig at Victoria, Nicola added: 'He also got my mother's rosary tattooed on his hand.' And in what seemed another snub to his father, Brooklyn appeared to do a U-turn on the meaning behind the name of his Cloud 23 hot sauce. Last week Brooklyn's team suggested the number 23 was a 'warm nod' to David — who wore that shirt number when he played for Real Madrid and LA Galaxy. But when asked about it in the new interview, Brooklyn said: 'The 23 stands for our engagement date and my age back then.' Nicola also appears to back up her nameless US confidantes, who have been pushing the narrative that the Beckhams use social media to be 'performative'. David and Victoria have both shared snaps in recent weeks that include their son Brooklyn — with Victoria captioning one of her posts: 'I love you all so much.' Can of worms Nicola said: 'It's easy to create an image of a perfect life, even though, of course, no one is happy all the time. 'That's the difficult thing about social media: You start to question everything.' There is also a hint at Brooklyn's incendiary social media post last month, which saw him telling Nicola 'I always choose you.' She told the magazine: 'Ultimately, it's important to show reality, even if it's not always easy.' After the post, Brooklyn was slammed for turning his back on his parents. Those close to David and Victoria told me Brooklyn's words were like a 'dagger to their hearts'. But Nicola seemingly has no regrets, adding: 'I often don't even know what's right, but I post it anyway.' The pair veer towards opening a fresh can of worms, when asked about the 'most important advice' they would give to young couples. Nicola responded: 'My parents taught me, 'Always tell the truth, we'll help you'. I still carry this attitude of being open and honest deep in my heart today. 'You never regret it. On the contrary, true closeness only comes from genuine connection, that is, when you have the courage to be honest.' Brooklyn added: 'Always be honest.' Wildly differing versions of events surrounding David's 50th birthday celebrations — the catalyst of the latest feud — have been proferred by the two camps. Brooklyn and Nicola claim they offered to meet David and Victoria privately but were rebuffed. People close to the Beckhams described this as nonsense, claiming that there has been zero contact from Brooklyn to his famous parents in weeks. A parting shot, buried within the interview, sees Brooklyn laying out his stall when it comes to his marriage. When asked about giving advice to young couples, he said: 'Love and protect each other, always.' In other words, he is saying don't come for us — because we'll come for you. And in this endless game of tit for tat, it might be time for the Beckhams to wave the white flags before this all gets even uglier. 11

I've travelled Europe investigating Madeleine McCann's disappearance – this bombshell new search is most important yet

AFTER the airing of our exclusive investigation into the Madeleine McCann case on Channel 4 - the audience reaction was overwhelming. Millions tuned in to see our revelations on the prime suspect over her disappearance Christian Brueckner. 5 And it quickly became clear - very few people had any idea over the extent of what the convicted paedophile and rapist might be capable of. Despite denying any involvement in Maddie's disappearance, we need to remind ourselves, he is currently on course to walk free in September - in a matter of some 15 weeks. And THAT is why the development of this new search in Portugal must be welcomed. No dig for the remains of a child can not should ever be greeted with happiness. Of course not. The plight of Maddie is heartbreaking for us all - nevermind how impossible it must be for her dedicated family to consider. But justice must be done in such appalling circumstances, mustn't it? For Christian Brueckner to be formally charged - and for there to be a realistic prospect of a conviction in Germany - prosecutors still want to find forensic evidence. That is the Holy Grail they still seek. After looking into Brueckner for the past year I understand why German police hold him under such strong suspicion - and why they are desperate to stop him slipping from their grip. We have presented the circumstantial evidence - Brueckner's obsession with snatching children and evidence he was at the location of an all-but-confession when he allegedly let slip 'she didn't scream,' referring to Maddie. 5 The police can also place his mobile phone in the area of Praia da Luz on the night of May 3 when Madeleine vanished - the same village where Brueckner is convicted of raping a woman in 2005. But it is forensic evidence that still needs to tie him to the case. And that is what these new searches endeavour to unearth. Following a tip-off German federal agents are hopeful some DNA, a strand from Maddie's pyjamas or any other clue might have fallen into street works - or even been deliberately buried near the village. Detectives are realistic, they know this is a longshot. But with Christian Brueckner set to walk free on September 17 it is one they know they need to take. As one German investigator told me: 'Now, more than ever we must make sure - no stone is left unturned.' 5
