Lando Norris targets a much-needed win from pole at the Austrian Grand Prix
SPIELBERG, Austria — Lando Norris is targeting a win to boost his Formula 1 title hopes Sunday after qualifying on pole for the Austrian Grand Prix, his first race since colliding with teammate Oscar Piastri in Canada.
Norris was fastest by more than half a second in qualifying Saturday in a dominant display which seemed to come as a relief to the British driver, who's often struggled to show his best pace in qualifying this year.

‘Strong probability' Viktor Gyokeres is sold below €100m clause, says Sporting CP president
Sporting CP's president has said there is a 'strong probability' Viktor Gyokeres is sold this summer and the club will 'give in' to an offer below his €100million (£85.4m, $117.2m) release clause. Gyokeres scored 54 goals in 52 games in 2024-25 for the Portuguese club and is under consideration from Arsenal in their efforts to sign a No 9 this summer. Advertisement The 27-year-old Sweden international's preference is to play for a team in the Champions League, although Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim remains a major admirer having worked together at Sporting before the Portuguese departed last winter. Frederico Varandas insists his club are 'very calm' about the striker's future and insisted they have no financial need to sell their prized asset, whom the president describes as 'one of the world's best players'. The Sporting president said both Gyokeres and his agent have been informed by Sporting of what their valuation is. When speaking in an interview with O Jogo of what he considered to be a fair market value for the Sweden international, the Sporting president cited United paying the £62.5m (€73.2m) release clause to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. United have also had a second bid for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, comprised of £55m upfront and £7.5m of bonuses, rejected by the west London club. 'These players do not have the market value or the quality of Viktor, in my opinion,' Varandas said. 'They (Cunha and Mbeumo) are being negotiated for values of around €75m. We are sensitive to Viktor's dreams or that of any players. 'Today I think there is a strong probability that he (Gyokeres) will leave.' Varandas added: 'I can guarantee, with absolute certainty, that Viktor will not leave for €60m plus €10m.' Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 games since moving to Sporting from Coventry City in 2023. He helped them lift the Primeira Liga title last year and win a league and cup double this time around. He scored only one goal for Brighton & Hove Albion before departing on loan to both Swansea City and later Coventry. Thomas Partey to leave Arsenal at end of contract
Thomas Partey will leave Arsenal when his contract expires on Monday, with the club set to confirm the midfielder's exit early next week. The 32-year-old was in talks over extending his career at the Emirates Stadium but an agreement could not be reached on the terms of a deal. Although the likely outcome became clear in recent weeks, a final call has now been made. Advertisement In April, The Athletic reported that Arsenal and Partey were in talks over a renewal. He has been free to speak to overseas teams since January. Partey remained an important part of Mikel Arteta's side during 2024-25, accumulating 52 appearances in all competitions. Arsenal are reinforcing his area of the field this summer, with a deal for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi regarded as done. The Athletic has reported Real Sociedad have expressed a preference for the move to be ratified at the start of July for accounting purposes. Arsenal are also in the process of finalising an agreement with Brentford to sign Christian Norgaard. Partey moved to Arsenal in October 2020 from Atletico Madrid after his €50million (now £42.7m; $57.3m) release clause was met and has made 167 appearances, scoring nine goals. Partey joined Atletico in 2012, before he had made his professional debut. He registered188 first-team appearances and scored 16 goals, winning the Europa League in 2018 and finishing as a runner-up in the Champions League in 2016. Jorginho, 33, was also out of contract at Arsenal this summer and left for Flamengo ahead of the Club World Cup earlier this month. ()

The defending Formula 1 champion's Austrian Grand Prix lasted less than half a lap as he was knocked out of the race by Mercedes driver and potential future teammate Kimi Antonelli. Advertisement 'I think we try to do our best always. My mentality doesn't change. We have won a lot in the past. Sometimes you have to accept that you are not winning, and we just try to do the best we can," Verstappen told British broadcaster Sky Sports. Asked about what the incident meant for his title defense, he said: 'Hopefully then maybe people will not mention it too much any more.' It followed an eventful week for the four-time champion, who blamed a lack of grip for being off the pace in qualifying and seventh on the grid. Antonelli's teammate George Russell had suggested Thursday Verstappen may be holding talks with Mercedes on a possible future move. Verstappen remains third in the standings but is 61 points off leader Oscar Piastri.
