Driver suffers heart attack, crashes into oncoming traffic in Jalan Ampang
KUALA LUMPUR: A 57-year-old man, believed to have suffered a heart attack while driving, lost control of his Toyota Caldina, which skidded into the opposite lane and crashed into oncoming traffic at a traffic light junction on Saturday.
The 11am accident, which occurred on Jalan Ampang in front of a private hospital, was captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said preliminary investigations showed that the crash involved three vehicles, including two sport utility vehicles (SUVs).
"During the incident, the Toyota Caldina suddenly veered into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with one of the SUVs driven by a 49-year-old woman.
"The impact of the collision caused the woman's SUV to move backwards and hit the other SUV, driven by a 30-year-old man," he said in a statement last night.
He added that investigations showed the driver of the Toyota Caldina lost control of his vehicle due to heart-related complications.
"However, the driver was in stable condition when he met with the investigating officer.
"Only the woman sustained minor injuries to her hands and legs," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
