Steelers Announce New Terrible Towel for 2025

Steelers Announce New Terrible Towel for 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Pittsburgh Steelers' symbol of fandom, the famous rally towel known as the Terrible Towel, has become an emblem of not just the team, but the city itself.

The Terrible Towel has seen the top of Mount Everest, and it has visited the International Space Station.
And it all started as a gimmick in the 1975 playoffs with the help of legendary broadcaster Myron Cope.
There have been numerous and varying versions of the rally towel, but the Steelers seem ready to upgrade, announcing a new Terrible Towel for 2025.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will reveal the 50th anniversary edition of the Terrible Towel next week, as the team announced on its X account Thursday.
At the time, the towel idea was mocked by local media, particularly the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Before that playoff game in 1975 against the Baltimore Colts, Cope noted that there were fewer than a dozen original Terrible Towels on display at the stadium.

However, he noted that changed as the Steelers players were in the tunnel prior to introductions, as he wrote in his book, "Double Yoi!"
Cope recalled, "Nearing kickoff, the Steelers gathered in their tunnel for introductions, whereupon the crowd exploded — and suddenly, by my estimation, 30,000 Terrible Towels twirled from the fists of fans around the stadium!"
The Steelers beat the Colts that day 28-10, cementing the Terrible Towel in Steelers lore. Had Pittsburgh lost the game that day, who knows what would have become of the Terrible Towel.
We may have never heard from it again.

Bengals 'Low-Balling' Trey Hendrickson at $28 Million as Trade Rumors Swirl

Bengals 'Low-Balling' Trey Hendrickson at $28 Million as Trade Rumors Swirl originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Another day, another Trey Hendrickson trade rumor. Also ... another day, another hint that the Cincinnati Bengals are insisting on sitting on their hands when it comes to their superstar edge rusher. Advertisement Hendrickson remains embroiled in a nasty contract dispute as he is seeking a pricey extension. How much? We'll get to that in a moment. More immediately, we know for a fact that every media outlet in 31 NFL cities has tried to engineer a way to move him from the "cheap'' Bengals to their fair berg. The latest? The Chicago Bears are being suggested as a landing spot, with Chicago's Pete Martuneac pushing for the move. "He may be on the wrong side of 30, but Hendrickson is coming off back-to-back seasons of 17 or more sacks. That kind of production can't be ignored and would provide a mammoth shot in the arm for Chicago's pass rush unit," he wrote. Advertisement But the writer added, "This could be a potentially difficult trade to pull off since Hendrickson is looking for a big payday and Chicago is light on salary cap space.'' Oh. Yeah, if a prospective new team isn't going to pay Hendrickson, who insists he refuses to play on his present $21 million deal? He's probably not getting traded to that prospective new team. Hendrickson, who has essentially labeled the Bengals as liars, has apparently recently visited with the front office. ESPN's Adam Schefter said, "I think there is a disagreement over value and I think most important, there's a disagreement on length here. Length of deal, I think that's also an issue here. The Bengals would like a shorter deal, Hendrickson would like a longer deal. And they can't even find common ground on the length of the deal right now.' Advertisement So, Schefter thinks the two sides can't agree on value and can't agree on length? That's like ... everything. Meanwhile, the last Bengals number reported regarding an offer to Hendrickson would pay him about $28 million annually. Two things there: One, if the team acknowledges that the four-time Pro Bowler deserves a raise, that's a low-ball number. And two, that "latest report'' is a month old ... Suggesting that Cincy isn't budging. The superstar edge guys now get in excess of $30 million APY. That's got to be the ground floor here. Hendrickson will turn 31 in December, so even as a 17-sacks-per-year guy, this doesn't have to be a tremendously long contract. Advertisement But what does have to happen in the coming weeks is movement on a realistic offer or a realistic trading of Hendrickson. By landing Toodle, the Bulldogs have passed the Ohio State Buckeyes for the No. 4-ranked spot on the 247Sports recruiting rankings for 2026. Georgia Bounces Back With Good News on Highly Touted Star

Georgia Bounces Back With Good News on Highly Touted Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Georgia Bulldogs lost a verbal commit from a playmaker to begin this week. But shortly after, they gained a commit on defense. Advertisement While the Bulldogs lost highly touted wide receiver Vance Spafford to Miami, they gained defensive linebacker Khamari Brooks. On3's Chad Simmons reported Monday four-star edge rusher Khamari Brooks has pledged to Georgia instead of the Alabama Crimson Tide. "Brooks is a Georgia legacy who lives 15 minutes from Athens," Simmons posted on X. "[Coach] Kirby Smart and company kept him home." Brooks told Simmons the program welcomed him and his entire family during all of his visits. That played a role in his decision. But so did the program's future plans for him. "With Georgia, it is about how they use guys at my position," Simmons wrote. "How [linebackers] coach [Chidera Uzo-]Diribe coaches is a lot like my high school, and how he uses the outside linebackers/EDGE is similar to what he [does] now, but at a higher level against better athletes.' Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Brooks will be the third member of his extended family to play football at Georgia. Advertisement "I have a lot of history with Georgia," Brooks told Rivals. "One of my uncles was among the first five [Black] players in program history, and my stepgrandad played there." Based on the 247Sports Composite rankings, Brooks is a top 15 edge rusher and Georgia prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. Overall, he is ranked the No. 112 recruit in the class. The Bulldogs landed Brooks the same day the program saw four-star player Spafford flip to the Miami Hurricanes. Georgia still has two receiver commitments in the 2026 class, but Spafford is more highly rated than either of them.
