Cyclist 'recklessly' fires crossbow at house
A cyclist has opened fire with a crossbow at a house in a town on Merseyside. A "male offender" whose face was covered attacked the house on Madryn Avenue in Kirkby on Sunday just after 09:00 BST, with arrows striking the front door and a window. He was then seen riding off on a bicycle, Merseyside Police said. Nobody was hurt in the incident but the force said firing the weapon in a residential street "so recklessly" could have had "far more serious consequences". Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell camera footage to come forward. They said they believed the incident was "targeted" but there was a police presence in the area to give reassurance to the community. Det Insp Darren Hankin said: "I know residents in Kirkby will be shocked and saddened to hear that a crossbow has been used in the heart of their community. "To fire such a weapon in a residential street so recklessly could clearly have had far more serious consequences, and we are grateful that nobody is reported to have been hurt during this incident." He said officers were "conducting extensive enquiries to locate him, seize the weapon and bring him to justice". Photo shows crashed Myanmar army chopper in 2022, not 2025
The image of a crashed helicopter on a hillside was shared on Facebook on May 20, 2025. "The result of a grilled dragonfly in Bhamo (20/5 - 1:00 pm)," reads its Burmese-language caption, using local slang for a military helicopter and referring to a city in Myanmar's northern Kachin state. The image circulated after local media said two military helicopters had been shot down, reportedly by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in northern Myanmar on May 20 (archived links here and here). According to local media, the KIA resumed attacks on Myanmar's ruling military junta following a quake-rehabilitation truce throughout Kachin State, Northern Shan State and Sagaing Region (archived link). The junta had initially declared a truce in the country's many-sided civil war after a huge quake in late March killed nearly 3,800 and left tens of thousands homeless (archived link). Combat in the civil war is largely confined to the countryside and smaller settlements, although sporadic grenade and gun attacks on police and junta-affiliated targets are regularly reported in the largest city Yangon. The same image circulated in similar posts elsewhere on Facebook here, here and here. But the photo has circulated online since March 2022. A reverse image search on Google found the same photo was used in a report titled "Five injured after a military helicopter crashed on a mountainside in Hakha", which was published by Chinese state news agency Xinhua's Burmese-language edition on March 29, 2022 (archived link). The photo caption reads: "Scene of the military helicopter that crashed in Hakha today (MRTV)". Hakha is the capital of Chin State, nearly 800 km southwest of Bhamo in Kachin State. The report says the military helicopter was carrying exam papers when it crashed on a mountainside "due to a strong wind". The same photo was also used in a report by Myanmar's state-run broadcaster Myanmar International TV on March 29, 2022 (archived link). "Helicopter accident: Tatmadaw helicopter accident near Hakha airport confirmed," reads the report's title, using the military's Burmese name. Other local media also covered the crash here and here (archived here and here). AFP previously debunked a similar claim that shared a photo from the same crash as a helicopter shot down by anti-junta fighters here.

Old Duterte photo falsely shared as recent
"There, I'm sure Father Digong is happy that he finally saw Senator Bato at The Hague," reads part of a Tagalog-language Facebook post on May 25, 2025, using Duterte and Dela Rosa's popular nicknames. "It's nice to see him in good health," adds the post which includes a picture of the pair at a dinner table. Similar posts also surfaced on X, TikTok and YouTube. Duterte was arrested at Manila's international airport on March 11 and flown to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague on the same day to face charges tied to his crackdown on drugs that killed thousands of mostly poor men (archived link). Despite being in detention, he was re-elected mayor of his family stronghold Davao city in a landslide vote. Communication has come sporadically and through surrogates, mainly his daughter Vice President Sara Duterte who has not announced any visit recently from Dela Rosa. There have also been no official reports as of June 2 that the senator, the main architect of Duterte's anti-narcotics campaign, saw the detained former president (archived link). Comments on the posts suggest many users were misled. "Is this pic new? FPRRD is looking healthier," one user said, using Duterte's initials. Another wrote: "Must be nice to be imprisoned there." A reverse image search traced the circulating picture to Dela Rosa's Facebook post on December 7, 2022 (archived link). "We had a very serious one on one talk last night and our main topic was that he wanted to wish every Filipino a drug-free Christmas and a crime-free New Year," its caption reads. Duterte's black jacket, Dela Rosa's grey suit and the table match those seen in photos that former transportation secretary Art Tugade uploaded on Facebook on the same day (archived link). State-run broadcaster PTV and local newspaper The Philippine Star reported that Duterte and his former cabinet secretaries held a Christmas gathering in Taguig City on December 6, 2022 (archived here and here). Duterte remains in ICC detention as he awaits a confirmation of charges hearing on September 23 (archived link). AFP has previously fact-checked several other claims related to Duterte's arrest here.
