Five Points seeking input from DU students for Welton Street revitalization plan
DENVER (KDVR) — The Welton Street Corridor in Denver's Five Points neighborhood, like many other spots in downtown Denver, is struggling with vacancy rates. They're hoping to get fresh ideas from local college students through a 'Shark Tank' like pitch contest Wednesday morning. The Five Points Business Improvement District and students at the University of Denver's Daniels College of Business are working together to revitalize historic Welton Street — between 20th & 30th streets. The partnership kicks off with a shark tank-style business pitch competition Wednesday morning. Ten student teams will present strategic proposals to stimulate economic activity, increase foot traffic, and enhance cultural engagement in Five Points. Each team has been tasked with developing a plan based on a simulated $50,000 budget, grounded in community research and stakeholder interviews. A panel of judges, including local business and community leaders, will evaluate the pitches and select the top proposal. Student presenters will have about 10 minutes to present with 5 minutes of Q&A after. Judging is based on strategic thinking, creativity, feasibility, and professionalism.
