Cassie's mother tells court Combs demanded thousands of dollars from her

Regina Ventura said she felt 'physically sick' when she received an email from Cassie in late 2011 saying Combs was planning to release two explicit videos of her and send someone to hurt her and the man she was seeing, rapper Kid Cudi.
'I did not understand a lot of it. The sex tapes threw me,' Ms Ventura told the Manhattan federal court.
Ms Ventura, from Connecticut, said she then received a demand from Combs for 20,000 dollars 'to recoup money he had spent on her because he was unhappy she was in a relationship with Kid Cudi'.
'He was angry that he had spent money on her and she went with another person,' she said.
Ms Ventura said she used a home equity loan to make the payment because 'I was scared for my daughter's safety'. Days later, she said, the money was returned, and before long, Cassie was dating Combs again.
Ms Ventura was in the witness box for less than half an hour, in part because defence lawyer Marc Agnifilo declined to cross-examine her.
During her evidence, the jury was shown photographs of bruises on Cassie's body that Ms Ventura said were taken when her daughter came home for Christmas in 2011.
Before the jury arrived on Tuesday, Mr Agnifilo tried to persuade Judge Arun Subramanian to disallow the evidence, saying it was 'purely prejudicial' because it illustrated the wide difference between the financial status of the Ventura family and Combs.
The judge allowed it though, saying the threats to release sex tapes and harm Cassie made it an instance of 'potential extortion'.
The testimony came during the second week of the trial, which is scheduled to last up to two months. If convicted of the charges he faces, including racketeering, the Bad Boy Records founder could be sentenced to at least 15 years in prison.
Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he used threats and his powerful position in the hip-hop world to abuse women and others, and force Cassie to take part in drug-fuelled sexual performances with other men that she said left her too drained to pursue her singing career.
Earlier on Tuesday, David James, Combs' personal assistant from 2007 to 2009, told the court that the job that seemed to come with increasing perils.
He said he leave his job when he realised that his life had been put in danger after he was forced to drive a car in which an angry Combs sat in the back seat with three handguns on his lap.
Mr James said his job sometimes required him to ensure that hotel rooms where Combs stayed under the name 'Frank Black' were stocked with the musician's comforts, including fresh underwear, an iPod, apple sauce, vodka, baby oil, Viagra and condoms.
There were also surprising moments, Mr James said, including one in 2008 when Combs asked him to bring an iPod from his Miami home to a hotel room. Upon entering, Mr James said he saw Cassie on the bed with a white comforter pulled up to her neck and an unfamiliar naked man running from the room.
Another time, he said Combs summoned him to his office to show him video he had recorded at a party of James dancing wildly and told him: 'Ok, I'm going to keep this footage in case I ever need it.' Mr James said he took it as a threat to keep him in line.
Cassie gave evidence last week that Combs threatened to release videos of her having sex with male sex workers during so-called freak-offs Combs orchestrated if she did not do as he said.
Mr James also described being required to take lie detector tests twice when Combs was trying to find out who stole cash in one instance and a watch in another.
He said Combs was on drugs nearly every day, often taking Percocet by day and ecstasy by night. When he stocked Combs' hotel rooms, he said, drugs were in a bag dropped off by security, including a pill meant to look like then-president Barack Obama.
The moment when Mr James saw the three guns on Combs' lap came when he testified that he was involved in Combs' attempt to confront his music industry rival Suge Knight at a Los Angeles diner in November 2008 — an incident that Cassie also spoke about. He said he quit soon afterwards.
'I was real shook up by it,' Mr James said. 'This was the first time being Mr Combs' assistant that I realised my life was in danger.'
Before Tuesday's lunch break, Sharay Hayes, an exotic dancer known as The Punisher, gave evidence that Combs and Cassie brought him into the freak-offs world. He said a woman – Cassie using a pseudonym – called and told him it was her birthday and that her husband said she should hire a dancer.
Mr Hayes said he arrived at a Manhattan hotel room expecting to perform a striptease for a small group of people but instead found the woman who hired him – whom he later found out was Cassie – alone with an otherwise naked man who hid his face with a burqa-like cloth. That man, he said, turned out to be Combs.
Hayes recalled seeing bottles of baby oil in bowls of water and getting handed a stack of 800 dollars (£600) in cash.
Later, after Combs watched him have a sexual encounter with Cassie, he said he was handed an additional 1,200 dollars (£897).
He said he was a fan of Combs but did not realise it was him in the room until a subsequent encounter at another hotel where the message on the TV screen said: 'Essex House would like to welcome Mr Sean Combs.'
Jurors also saw parts of two AR-15 rifles that federal agents found last year while searching Combs' mansion on Star Island, a celebrity enclave off Miami.
Special agent Gerard Gannon, of Homeland Security Investigations, said in evidence that agents executing a search warrant for the property in March 2024 used an armoured vehicle to bust through Combs' security gate and had teams on boats nearby.
In addition to weapons, he said they found platform high heels and items that prosecutors say Combs frequently used during his 'freak-off' sex marathons, including lingerie, sex toys, baby oil, lubricant and condoms.

Diddy makes desperate move to have case tossed over claims he dangled fashion designer off 17-story balcony

Diddy has made a desperate move to have his case tossed out again, as his defense argued against claims that the rap mogul dangled a fashion designer off a balcony. On Saturday, Diddy's legal team filed a letter requesting the trial be dismissed following a testimony from Combs' ex-girlfriend Cassie' s friend and fashion designer, Bryana Bongolan. Bongolan claimed the rap mogul had held her over the edge of a balcony, 17 stories high. Combs' lawyers have argued that the prosecution knowingly allowed the false testimony to be given. Diddy's defense argued, however, that a series of texts from Cassie to Kristina Khorram, one of the rap mogul's employees, indicated she hadn't witnessed the incident, TMZ reported. The text which said, 'I just found out some crazy s***,' indicated to the defense that she had heard of the alleged incident through another source and had not seen it first hand. The defense also cited images shown by prosecutors of Bongolan's injuries from the alleged incident. Bongolan had testified that after Diddy had allegedly held her over the balcony, that he threw her into some furniture. The photographs of the injuries, including bruises on her leg as well as neck injuries, were proven to have been taken on September 26, 2016. Diddy's defense, however, argued that he was on the East Coast and couldn't have committed anything he was accused of on September 26. Prosecutors later clarified that Cassie's text message indicated it occurred later in the week, around September 29 or 30, TMZ reported. Bongolan had sued the rap mogul for $10million last year, accusing him of sexual battery and physical abuse. Her lawsuit claimed Combs molested and attacked her at Cassie Ventura's Los Angeles apartment in 2016 after one of his notorious 'freak off' parties. She claimed Diddy force-fed her ecstasy and during a photoshoot told her 'I'm the mother******g devil. I could kill you.' Bongolan alleged she suffered the near-death experience on the balcony on September 26, 2016, after one of the rapper's sex marathons. She was not involved in the freak off party that allegedly happened just before the incident, her complaint states. Bongolan and her then-girlfriend were sleeping in a bedroom of Ventura's apartment when an intoxicated Diddy stormed in after 'violently' banging on the door, the lawsuit alleges. She allegedly hid on the balcony, only for Combs to storm over to her, roughly grab her and grope her breasts as she tried to fight him off and tell him to leave, she claimed. He held her over the edge of the balcony under her arms and lifted her on to the banister, while screaming, 'Do you know what the f*** you did?' over and over, the lawsuit claimed. Ventura heard the commotion, came out of her locked bedroom and screamed at Diddy to stop. But as Ventura tried to calm him down, Combs allegedly slammed Bongolan against the balcony furniture. Ventura, who took to the witness stand last week, recounted the violence during her own testimony at Combs' trial. Diddy has denied that the incident ever took place. Bongolan's lawsuit further included stories she heard while working with Combs, including that he threatened to blow up rapper Kid Cudi's car after he slept with Ventura. Her complaint also featured a rumor that Diddy previously 'skinned a rival's dog', although she admitted she did not know if there was any truth to the story. This is the second call for a mistrial after Diddy's defense team tried to argue that the line of questioning surrounding the destruction of fingerprint evidence related to the Molotov cocktail bombing of Kid Cudi's car implied Combs could buy his way out of trouble. Prosecutors had asked Los Angeles Fire Department arson investigator Lance Jimenez if the evidence had been destroyed and who might have authorized its destruction. 'They were trying to plan this idea to these jurors that Mr. Combs authorized this,' defense Attorney Alexandra Shapiro said, People reported. Judge Arun Subramanian denied the motion to throw out the trial and ruled that the questions had not been prejudicial. The jury was then ordered not to consider the questions about the fingerprints. A ruling on the new request for a mistrial is yet to be made.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' ex-girlfriend testifies he rebuffed pleas that escorts wear condoms

NEW YORK, June 6 (Reuters) - Sean "Diddy" Combs twice rebuffed a former girlfriend's requests that male entertainers wear condoms when having sex with her as Combs watched, the woman said on Friday during often tearful testimony at the hip-hop mogul's sex trafficking trial. The woman, testifying under the pseudonym Jane to protect her privacy, said Combs would "guilt trip" her when she asked that the entertainers wear condoms during their frequent, lengthy sexual encounters. The sexual interactions resembled what another one of Combs' exes, Casandra Ventura, referred to as "Freak Offs" during her testimony last month. Jurors in the Manhattan federal court trial heard an audio recording in which Combs intervened after Jane asked a male entertainer named Don if he had a condom. As the recording was played, Combs rapidly tapped his fingers against his leg while seated at the defense table. "Why didn't you just insist that Don wear a condom?" prosecutor Maurene Comey asked. "Because I just didn't want to disappoint my lover," Jane responded, referring to Combs. Jane said she and Combs dated from 2021 through 2024. Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to five felony counts including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Prosecutors say he coerced women over two decades to take part in elaborate, drug-fueled sexual performances during Freak Offs over two decades. The Bad Boy Records founder's defense lawyers have acknowledged that Combs was occasionally abusive in domestic relationships, but say the women who took part in Freak Offs did so consensually. During the first day of her testimony on Thursday, Jane said she was "head over heels" for Combs and wanted to have a one-on-one relationship with him, but that starting five months into their relationship most of their time together involved sexual interactions with male escorts in hotels. Jane said that when she told Combs she wanted those encounters to stop, he threatened to stop paying her rent. On Friday, Jane frequently sobbed and dabbed her eyes with a tissue as she told jurors how Combs would encourage her to keep going even after she grew tired during the encounters, which she said often lasted 24 hours or more. She recounted one instance in which she broke down crying after Combs said he had to leave following an encounter with an entertainer, despite having promised Jane a one-on-one date night and that the entertainer would be there for "just a little bit." "I hung onto those words, just a little bit," Jane said. "I was feeling terrible that he was going to leave me alone." Combs' defense lawyers are expected to cross-examine Jane next week. They may focus on sexually explicit text messages that she sent Combs in between their encounters to show she was a willing participant in their relationship. Combs has been in federal lockup in Brooklyn since his September 2024 arrest. He could face life in prison if convicted on all counts.

Ex-girlfriend of Sean Combs tells court of Las Vegas ‘hotel night'

A recent ex-girlfriend of singer Sean 'Diddy' Combs returned to the witness stand on Friday in his sex trafficking trial. The woman using the pseudonym 'Jane' previously testified that he pressured her into drug-fuelled sex marathons similar to those described by another former girlfriend, R&B singer Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura. Advertisement Jane is among several witnesses at the trial — now at the end of its fourth week — who accuse Combs of violence, including Cassie. Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to running his business empire as a racketeering enterprise that enabled and concealed the abuse of women across two decades. If convicted, he faces 15 years in jail to life imprisonment. On Friday, prosecutors questioned Jane about sexual subjects, beginning with a 2023 trip to Las Vegas where Jane said she and Combs had a 'hotel night' with an 'entertainer'. Assistant US Attorney Maurene Comey asked if Combs ever used the word 'freak'. Advertisement Jane said he would say 'he wants his freak' and that she understood that to mean 'he wanted me to be wild and sexual'. Her description of 'hotel nights' has closely paralleled Cassie's earlier testimony about numerous 'freak-offs' she had with male sex workers under Combs' direction. Jane said during her first day of testimony on Thursday that she repeatedly told Combs, in person and in writing, that she did not want to have sex with other men. But Combs, who paid her rent and controlled other parts of her life, kept pressuring her and she felt 'obligated' to take part in the 'hotel nights', she said. Advertisement
