California sheriff says nearly a dozen deputies injured in anti-ICE riots
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna announced Friday that nearly a dozen deputies were injured during the ongoing riots.
The riots began June 6 as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was conducting raids in the city and surrounding counties.
Luna said 10 deputies were injured after protesters hurled rocks, Molotov cocktails and "high-grade pyrotechnics" at them.
"We have been encountering some interesting weapons out there," Luna said. "[There is a] big difference between the peaceful protesters and the individuals who are coming out with weapons to attack our folks."
The news conference focused on plans to address planned nationwide protests Saturday against the Trump administration.
"It's a good cause, but we do not want violent agitators out there destroying property or committing acts of violence specifically against our police officers, deputy sheriffs and CHP [California Highway Patrol] officers," Luna said. "I just want to remind everybody that our deputies have and continue to face a dangerous situation out there."
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said the LAPD is "fully prepared" for the upcoming planned demonstrations and "unprecedented" crowds.
"We're closely monitoring developments and deploying our personnel and resources strategically to protect public safety while safeguarding every individual's right to protest peacefully," McDonnell said.
"If you come to our city with the intent to commit crimes, damage property or harm others, including our officers, you will be arrested," he added. "We will not allow violence, vandalism or threats to public safety to undermine the rights of those who are demonstrating lawfully. We're asking everyone who plans to participate in Saturday's event to do so peacefully and respectfully."
Since the onset of the protests, McDonnell said hundreds of people have been arrested.
He added that a curfew, which will remain in effect through the weekend, "has played a key role in helping to restore order, particularly by curbing the criminal activity that was largely occurring during the evening hours."
CHP troopers will be on active patrol throughout the state looking for areas of concern.
There will also be a focus on protecting state infrastructure.

Protest Is Underrated
The first thing to know is that it was all basically willed into being — not by 'paid protesters' or the Mexican government or socialists or union leaders, but by Stephen Miller, the architect of President Trump's xenophobic immigration plan and his deputy chief of staff. In a May meeting at ICE headquarters, Miller reportedly demanded that field agents forget about targeting only those undocumented immigrants with criminal records and instead stage purposefully cruel, attention-getting sweeps in places like the parking lot of a Home Depot. That is precisely where, last Friday, those raids began. The second thing to know is that the unrest was really quite limited: a roughly five-block stretch downtown, in a city of nearly four million people spread over almost 500 square miles; several driverless Waymo robot taxis, lined up on one street and set ablaze. There was some more serious violence, too: some journalists were shot with rubber bullets and other less-lethal munitions, a few cop cars were pelted with rocks, and at least one was set on fire, but no serious law-enforcement injuries were reported. But this was not 1965, with widespread arson and 34 deaths, or 1992, with disorder spreading through whole neighborhoods and more than 60 people killed. None of that means that what began last Friday in Los Angeles — a series of spectacular ICE raids, a direct-action response to block them, large-scale peaceful protests punctuated in places by bursts of familiar violence — is insignificant. To the contrary: Hundreds of migrants and protesters have been arrested over the last week, with many of the raids conducted by ICE officers in the now-familiar uniform of masked anonymity. The National Guard was mobilized over the objection of California's governor, Gavin Newsom, and without the support of the Los Angeles Police Department's leadership, with hundreds of Marines on active duty mobilized to join them in a rare deployment of military personnel to a site of domestic unrest. On Tuesday, Trump disparaged Los Angeles as a 'trash heap' in an incendiary speech that was met with horrifying applause from assembled loyalists in the Army, and on Thursday, Senator Alex Padilla was hauled out of a local news conference being held by the secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem. When the senator was wrestled to the floor, the secretary had just declared 'we are not going away,' but would instead stay in L.A. to 'liberate the city' from 'socialists' and its democratically elected local government. Motorcyclist killed in I-526 crash, police say
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A motorcyclist is dead following a Saturday morning crash on the interstate. The North Charleston Police Department's traffic unit responded to a crash around 2:15 a.m. Officials said the motorcyclist was found on the I-526 eastbound ramp to I-26 westbound. Roughly 1.6 million illegal immigrants are enrolled in the state's healthcare program, according to state data, and 15 million California residents are enrolled. In addition to the amount of taxpayer dollars spent on individuals illegally in the country, a recent study by Wallethub found that California ranks nearly last in the country when it comes to return on investment for taxpayers. Wallethub examined state and local tax collections and then compared that with the quality of services received in education, health, safety, the economy, and infrastructure and pollution. The Golden State ranks 47th in taxpayer efficiency in the United States. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin fired back at California Democrats and pointed to the cost the rioters could inflict, already estimated in the millions as of Thursday, on the taxpayers in terms of property damage if not quickly quelled by federal troops. "Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass are conveniently ignoring the high price of mass looting, rioters destroying LA's family businesses, public property, and setting cars and other property on fire," McLaughlin said. "President Trump will not stand by while these lawless rioters loot and destroy a great American city. Newsom and Bass should be thanking President Trump for providing additional support to restore law and order and stop the destruction of LA." In a statement to Fox News Digital, Newsom Communications Director Izzy Gardon said there is an "irrefutable return on investment when Californians have access to education and healthcare." "There's zero return for taxpayers when Trump blows $140 million of YOUR dollars to pull troops off the border and away from wildfire prep just so they can sit idle in L.A. while he cosplays as a dictator and chases Fox News headlines. This isn't public safety — it's a political stunt and a disgrace." Bass's office directed Fox News Digital to a comment the mayor made on MSNBC. "We are a city of immigrants," Bass said. "We have entire industries that wouldn't even be able to function without immigrant labor. So this is terrible to families, but it also is a very powerful blow to the local economy if this is going to continue." Late Thursday, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order Thursday directing President Donald Trump to return control of the National Guard to California. The order, which takes effect at noon Friday, said the deployment of the Guard was illegal and both violated the Tenth Amendment and exceeded Trump's statutory authority. The Trump administration appealed that decision and hours later the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily blocked the federal judge's order. The court said it would hold a hearing on the matter on June 17.
