Delhi court renotifies JNU student Najeeb Ahmed's disappearance case for order on closure report

New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): The Rouse Avenue court on Thursday, after getting clarification from the public prosecutor, renotified the Najeeb Ahmed disappearance case for order on a closer report and protest petition.
JNU student Najeeb Ahmed has been missing since October 2016.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Jyoti Maheshwari renotified the matter for order on June 30.
The court said that the public prosecutor addressed the clarification on the proctorial inquiry conducted in the incident that occured on October 14, 2016 and the statement of doctors, renotified for orders on June 30.
On April 7, the court was informed that Najeeb Ahmed was not treated at Safdarjung Hospital. He was advised to get a MLC prepared but he left hospital with his friend Mohd. Quasim.
Investigation officer (IO) had also informed that the statement of Quasim, Najeeb's mother Fatima, his friend in Jamia and hostel warden in JNU were recorded. It was also submitted that the statement of the auto driver was also recorded by the Delhi Police and by the court.
The IO had clarified that that the statement of the doctor/ medical attendant at Safdarjung Hospital was not taken, because no document pertaining to Najeeb Ahmed's visit to Safdarjung Hospital was there.
It was also clarified that the statement of hostel warden who saw Najeeb going taking an auto from JNU. Najeeb Ahmed went missing from JNU in October 2016.
This case was transferred to the CBI. The agency filed a closure report in 2018. His mother Fatima Nafees had challenged the closure report. Najeeb's mother Fatima Nafees had moved a protest petition against the closure report of the CBI. (ANI)

"The commission is conducting an inquiry": Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar on Bengaluru stampede
New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday said that a commission has been formed that is currently conducting an inquiry into the Bengaluru stampede incident, where 11 people had lost their lives on June 4 during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. He further refrained from commenting further on the matter, noting that the state's Home Minister would provide a detailed response. 'The commission is conducting an inquiry. I will not say much. The Home Minister will reply,' said Shivakumar. Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, addressing reporters in Tumkur, reiterated that the matter is under investigation and all details regarding the incident would be made public only after the inquiry is complete. 'Everything will be known after the investigation: who said what, what statements were given earlier, when and by whom,' Parameshwara stated. Earlier today, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi reiterated Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje's scathing remark on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM Shivakumar that they had 'blood on their hands' for their 'irresponsible and insensitive' handling of the crowd outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, which led to a stampede that killed 11 people on June 4 during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. Joshi echoed Karandlaje's statement from a press conference on Saturday, in which she accused the leaders of celebrating despite the tragedy and shifting blame and further called for their immediate resignation. 'That is definitely there. I've seen her statement... They have behaved most irresponsibly... Deaths were announced although the celebration was going on... Police have clearly categorically denied that they cannot provide it; it is a risky thing; you don't do it despite all these things... It is the most irresponsible and insensitive behaviour of both the CM (and the Deputy CM),' Joshi said. His remarks align with Karandlaje's earlier demand, 'You have celebrated after their deaths... You have blood on your hands. Listen, Siddaramaiah, listen, DK Shivakumar, you have blood on your hands... You can't blame the Commissioner... You are also a culprit... Ahmedabad crime branch nabs female bouncer, auto driver with drugs
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 8 (ANI): Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested a female bouncer and an auto-rickshaw driver with huge quantity of MD drugs near Vinayak Park under Ramol area in the city, said a police statement. Acting on a tip-off, officials seized a mixture of 34 grams and 180 milligrams of Amphetamine and Mephedrone, with an estimated market value of Rs 3.41 lakh. The arrests were made when a team from the Crime Branch intercepted an auto-rickshaw near Vinayak Park. The accused were in possession of the illicit drugs without any legal permit and police recovered 34.180 grams of a mixture of Amphetamine and Mephedrone worth Rs 3,41,800, two mobile phones and an auto-rickshaw, added the police statement. The arrested identified as Ramiz Mohammed (30), and the female bouncer Sirinbanu (28), both residents of Ahmedabad. Investigations reveal that Ramiz is a habitual MD drug consumer and sourced the substances from Tanvir. Meanwhile, Sirinbanu reportedly brought the drugs from Mumbai for retail sale to earn profit. A case has been registered under sections of the NDPS Act at DCB Police Station and further investigations are ongoing to trace the supply chain and apprehend the remaining two accused. Apart from this, on Sunday, Ahmedabad Crime Branch apprehended Abhishek alias Shooter Sanjaybhsinh Tomar, a notorious criminal with a history of violent offences, after a tense standoff at an apartment in Odhav. Tomar, wanted in multiple cases involving assault, rioting, and illegal arms possession, had been evading the law. Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch team arrived at Shivam Awas, Building X, Flat No. 505 in Bhavang Flats, where Tomar hid. Tomar refused to open the door and instead climbed onto the kitchen balcony ledge, threatening to jump. After the police broke in, Tomar began livestreaming the standoff on social media, continuing to threaten to jump, said the crime branch in a press note. Authorities quickly mobilised the fire brigade and control room while negotiating with Tomar. Eventually, the police used 'appropriate force' to detain him without any casualties. (ANI)

Troops sent by Trump reach protest-hit Los Angeles over Governor Newsom's wishes
Hundreds of National Guard troops took up positions in Los Angeles on Sunday (June 8, 2025) on the orders of U.S. President Donald Trump, a rare deployment over the head of the state Governor, after unruly protests against immigration raids. The U.S. military said 300 soldiers from the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team had been sent to three separate locations in the greater Los Angeles area, and were "conducting safety and protection of federal property & personnel." Helmeted troops in camouflage gear and carrying guns could be seen in front of a federal complex — including a detention centre — with the phrase "Our City" spray-painted on it in downtown Los Angeles. The deployment overrode the protests of local officials, an extraordinary move not seen in decades that California Governor Gavin Newsom slammed as "purposefully inflammatory." It came ahead of more planned protests in the city, which has a large Latino population, including a call by organisers for a "mass mobilisation" at City Hall at 2:00 p.m. local time (2100 GMT). A separate Pride parade in support of LGBTQ rights — also under assault by the Trump administration — also began Sunday (June 8, 2025) in Hollywood, with organisers posting on Instagram that they were working with local law enforcement to keep the celebrations safe.
