When Morgan Freeman said he is a ‘huge fan' of Elon Musk: ‘What he's done, nobody else has ever…'

Time of India6 hours ago

Morgan Freeman once expressed deep admiration for
Tesla CEO
Elon Musk. 'I'm a huge fan of
Elon Musk
,' Freeman said in a 2016 CNBC interview. 'I think he's got the most incredibly forward-thinking ideas about where we can go technologically. What he's done, nobody else has ever done,' he further added.
At the time, Musk's company had just achieved what many thought impossible: landing a rocket so it could be used again. Freeman didn't hold back his admiration. He then said 'He's landed a rocket ship so it's reusable. You know what a feat that is?'.
He spoke not just about innovation, but about vision. 'Now we're taking off,' Freeman added. 'We're going to be going to Mars, delivering stuff to people who are going to be settling there just like they settled the old West… and bringing those ships back and landing them, and reloading them.'
Years later, Musk's plans for Mars colonies and interplanetary logistics remain in motion — and Freeman's praise sounds strikingly prescient.

Time and again, Musk has publicly talked about his mission to go on Mars. So much so that he has shared his suggestion for the name of the first city on the Red Planet.
'Elon Musk says the first city on Mars will be named 'Terminus',' a post said on X. Replying to the post, Musk not only confirmed the name but also provided information on why he chose it, saying that it will ultimately depend on the residents of Mars to name their city.
'It's from Asimov's Foundation. But I'm open to other ideas,' Musk said. 'Ultimately, it will be up to the people of Mars to decide,' he added.
Elon Musk's plan to land on Mars
Elon Musk says his Starship rocket could head to Mars by the end of next year. The mission will carry Tesla's robot, Optimus, but no people — it's just a test.
If these early robot missions go well, Musk believes humans could start going to Mars as soon as 2029. But he thinks 2031 is a more likely year for the first crewed trip.

Mexico's president threatens to sue SpaceX over debris from rocket explosions

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday threatened legal action over debris and contamination from Elon Musk's SpaceX rocket launches near the US-Mexico border. 'There is indeed contamination,' Sheinbaum said during her morning press conference, news agency AFP reported, adding that Mexico was reviewing 'which international laws were being violated in order to file the necessary lawsuits'. Last week, a SpaceX Starship rocket exploded during a ground test at the company's Starbase site in south Texas, near the border. The fireball was the latest blow to Musk's Mars ambitions, as per a report by AFP. Mexican officials are conducting a 'comprehensive review' of the rocket launches' environmental impact on Tamaulipas, the neighbouring Mexican state. Despite conservation group concerns, the US Federal Aviation Administration approved an increase in annual Starship launches from five to 25 in May, saying the expansion would not harm the environment, the AFP report added. A lawsuit over SpaceX would add to Mexico's recent disputes with US tech giants. In May, Sheinbaum's government said it sued Google for renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the 'Gulf of America' on Google Maps in the US, citing an executive order by Donald Trump.

'GCCs no longer competitors, they're key clients for Infosys': Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani

BENGALURU: Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani believes global capability centres (GCCs) are no longer competitors but key clients in artificial intelligence. He feels GCCs have transformed from mere cost-saving centres into innovation hubs. "Both AI and GCCs are new waves of growth and not a threat. The current wave of GCCs is not about cost arbitrage, it's about innovation arbitrage," Nilekani said at the company's 44th annual general meeting (AGM) held virtually on Wednesday. "There are quite a few companies setting up AI/ML centres as GCCs, and we are helping many of them in this regard. This means that GCCs are no longer competitors, they're critical clients for us on AI," he added. Infosys recently expanded its capabilities with a full-fledged GCC practice and appointed Deval Shah, the former MD of Danske IT and Support Services India, as its leader. In an internal note to employees, Infosys said that as part of Project Altius, one of its key growth priorities is to win more business from GCCs. Responding to a question on AI's impact on the workforce, Nilekani said Infosys, as a digital-native firm, sees AI driving cultural and operational shifts across work, workplace, and workforce. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "As of today, we have over 2,75,000 employees who are trained in AI at different levels of proficiency. " Despite macroeconomic challenges, Nilekani said he is confident of Infosys' positioning both on cost takeout deals and opportunities in discretionary spending. Nilekani also said supply chains will continue to shift as tariffs become another form of arbitrage. With trade rules emerging as dominant forces, there is a need to accelerate supply chain diversification, Nilekani insisted.
