
Price Control Scheme set for Kaamatan, Gawai festivals
INANAM: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will implement the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) in conjunction with the Kaamatan and Gawai Festivals for seven days.
Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the Kaamatan Festival SHMMP will begin on May 27 and continue until June 2, whereas the Gawai Festival SHMMP will be from May 29 to June 4.
'A total of 10 items are listed under the Kaamatan SHMMP compared to eight last year with the addition of imported large yellow and red onions.
'For the SHMMP in conjunction with the Gawai Festival, 11 items have been listed, compared to eight last year, with the addition of three items—whole coconuts, grated coconut, and coconut milk,' he told reporters at Pisompuruan Hall in Kampung Kobuni here today.
Armizan said the SHMMP will be implemented three days before, a day during, and three days after the festivals.
He said the duration of the price control initiative considers the interests of consumers and the business community, allowing consumers to purchase essential items at reasonable prices while ensuring that traders are not burdened by a lengthy enforcement period.
Items listed under the price control scheme during the Kaamatan Festival include live pigs (with maximum prices set only at farms), pork meat, fat, and belly.
Other items are buffalo meat imported from India (except the tenderloin), chicken wings, curly dried chillies, small red onions (India) and garlic (China).
The price control list for Gawai celebrations includes live pigs, pork (meat, fat, and belly), live old chickens, chicken wings, and round cabbage imported from Indonesia and China, except Beijing cabbage, garlic from China, and dried curly chillies.

Yesterday, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said that micro and small-scale traders in the food and beverage sector may continue using subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders without a special permit until the amendments to the Control of Supplies Regulations (PPKB) 2021 are finalised in October. He also said that no legal action would be taken against this group of traders during the transition period. Commenting on the exemption from the e-invoice requirement and the extension of the e-invoice implementation invoice for SMEs, Ng said this would protect small traders, hawkers and family-owned businesses, which mostly do not have digital infrastructure, from the burden of compliance that could cause them to go out of business or operate informally. MCA tells govt to define small businesses entitled to LPG
KUALA LUMPUR: The government must specify which micro and small businesses are entitled to use subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). MCA vice-president Datuk Lawrence Low said the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) must define what constitutes a "micro and small-scale food and sales business" amid growing confusion over the enforcement of subsidised LPG use under Ops Gasak. Low said the lack of details had left many traders uncertain and anxious. "Who exactly are these businesses? Are they classified by the volume of LPG they consume, their income levels, or some other benchmark? "Or will enforcement officers be left to make these determinations on the ground during Ops Gasak? The absence of clear criteria invites inconsistency and could result in unfair treatment," he said. Low, who is also chairs MCA's Economic and SME Affairs Committee, added that the confusion was compounded by a letter issued by Petronas, dated April 30, which prohibited the supply of subsidised LPG to commercial premises. "Why hasn't KPDN instructed Petronas to retract this letter? It is the root cause of the uncertainty and pressure being felt by small business owners," he said. The government had launched Op Gasak on May 1 to clamp down on the misuse of susidised LPG cylinders. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali had said household and small businesses could use fewer than three 14kg LPG cylinders at a time without obtaining a scheduled controlled goods permit. Yesterday, Armizan said the exemption for small businesses would remain in effect until amendments to the Control of Supplies (Amendment) Regulations 2021 were finalised.
