At 17, Sextortion Drove Him To Suicide. Police Finally His Blackmailers

At least four people have been arrested in Cote d'Ivoire for their alleged roles in a global sextortion and money laundering scam, which forced a 17-year-old boy to die by suicide in Northern California in 2022.
Ivorian police detained Alfred Kassi, Moussa Diaby, Oumarou Ouedraogo, and Oumar Cisse on criminal charges of running a sextortion scheme, which involved coercing people into sharing obscene photos online by threatening them.
The authorities claimed the four men also targeted thousands of victims worldwide, including children from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and Italy, and "sextorted" online.
Ryan Last, a 17-year-old San Jose high school senior, was one of the casualties.
According to officials, the youngster died by suicide within hours of being threatened by the defendants, the US Department of Justice announced.
Mr Last, who intended to enrol at Washington State University, was sextorted online by a person posing as a woman in her 20s. The teen, previously, paid $150 to stop them from leaking his private photos.
The evidence eventually led authorities to identify Kassi, an Ivorian citizen residing in Cote d'Ivoire, as the person allegedly carrying out the sextortion.
The Justice Department claimed that when Kassi was arrested on April 29, he had the messages he sent to Mr Last requesting payment in return for preserving his private photos.
Authorities claimed Ouedraogo assisted Kassi in transferring the money he received from the teenager. The investigation involved the US and Ivorian law enforcement and identified several other suspected money laundering accomplices.
According to the Justice Department, Ouedraogo was taken into custody by Ivorian police on April 25.
Diaby and Cisse reportedly admitted their involvement in Kassi's alleged sextortion ring and their personal sextortion offences.
According to the Justice Department, the four men will face prosecution in their home country under Ivorian cybercrime laws because the Ivorian government does not extradite its citizens.
Jonathan Kassi, a US-based accomplice who is unrelated to Alfred Kassi, was also found guilty by a California State Court in another case in 2023 and handed an 18-month prison sentence.
Last's mother, Pauline Stuart, commented on the recent arrests, saying, "We're feeling grateful that [law enforcement officials] didn't give up and they continued to work," per the Los Angeles Times.
The fraudster allegedly sent Last an explicit photo and demanded one in return, CNN reported. He then threatened to expose the picture to Mr Last's friends and family and demanded $5,000.
After Last stated that he didn't have the money, they reduced it to $150.

Bangladesh Political Killings: Delhi Think Tank To Petition International Criminal Court Against Yunus

RRAG will file a formal complaint, comparing the situation in Bangladesh under Yunus with crimes against humanity committed in Kenya in 2007 and 2008, which were probed by ICC Troubles for Muhammad Yunus may escalate in the coming days as a Delhi-based think tank, The Rights & Risks Analysis Group (RRAG), prepares to petition the International Criminal Court (ICC) against the chief adviser of Bangladesh's interim government. The think tank claims to have built a case alleging a series of political assassinations targeting members of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party, the now-banned Awami League. The think tank asserts that 'at least" 123 Awami League members have been murdered under Dr Yunus's regime. This includes 41 individuals allegedly hacked to death in a manner reminiscent of Taliban-style killings, the RRAG claims. The think tank has compiled a comprehensive report, reviewed by News18, which it intends to present as evidence at the ICC. The report states that the victims, besides their affiliation with the Awami League, also belonged to associated groups such as the Swechasebak League, Chhatra League, Juba League, Matsojibi League, and Krishak League. They were killed between August 5, 2024, and April 30, 2025, according to the report. The same report alleges 21 custodial deaths of Awami League activists during this period, attributed to torture. 'These murders of the Awami League members are just the tip of the iceberg, as not all the murders of the Awami League members were reported in the local media, and further, the RRAG was not able to monitor all local media. It is, however, clear that even children, women, the mentally unstable, and the seriously injured were not spared," said Suhas Chakma, director of RRAG. The slogan 'Joy Bangla" (Bengali for 'Victory to Bengal" or 'Hail Bengal") was the national slogan of Bangladesh. However, after Hasina's exit, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh ruled in December 2024 that it would no longer be the national slogan. On December 17 last year, a class five student, Mohd Masud Rian, was allegedly murdered by pro-Yunus supporters for a five-month-old Facebook post that read 'Joy Bangla", claims the RRAG. This shocking alleged incident took place in Nachol, Chapaiganj, in Bangladesh. The report meticulously details specific incidents, such as the alleged murder of Awami League worker Babar Ali on August 13, 2024. He was allegedly killed by having his throat slit after being abducted from the front of his house in Bogura district. Another incident highlighted is the alleged murder of Tofazzal, the Kathaltoli Union Chhatra League leader in Patharghata Upazila, a mentally disturbed individual, on September 19, 2024. He was allegedly brutally killed on the Dhaka University campus by a student mob despite his condition. The RRAG insists that among the 1,400 people potentially killed between July 15 and August 5 were Awami League members whose relatives were unable to testify before the inquiry conducted by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights due to fear of reprisal. At the ICC, the think tank will invoke Article 7 and Article 28 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court in its case against Md Yunus. In essence, the RRAG will file a formal complaint with the International Criminal Court, drawing parallels between the situation in Bangladesh under Yunus's interim government and the crimes against humanity committed in the context of post-election violence in Kenya in 2007 and 2008, which was investigated by the ICC. Tahawwur Rana's judicial custody extended, court seeks health report from Tihar authorities

New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Delhi's Patiala House Court on Friday extended the judicial custody of 26/11 mastermind Tahawwur Rana, with his next court production scheduled for July 9. Citing security concerns, he was presented before the court via a virtual mode. During the hearing, his counsel raised concerns regarding his health during his Judicial Custody. Noting this, Additional Sessions Judge (NIA) Chander Jit Singh directed Tihar authorities to submit a status report on the matter by June 9. During the hearing, Tahawwur Rana personally addressed the court, requesting a hearing aid due to a medical issue affecting his ears. The same court last week also scheduled to hear on June 9 a plea filed by Tahawwur Hussain Rana, seeking permission to communicate with his family members. Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) collected voice and handwriting samples from Rana, who was recently extradited from the United States. He provided handwriting specimens by writing various alphabets and numerical characters. Advocate Piyush Sachdev, his legal aid counsel, confirmed that Rana fully complied with the court's directive to submit these samples. The Special NIA Court has previously allowed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to obtain voice and handwriting samples of 26/11 mastermind Tahawwur Rana. Rana was recently extradited to India from the United States. Earlier, NIA informed the court that Rana had been confronted with a substantial volume of records and evidence related to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The agency argued that further custody was necessary to complete his interrogation. The NIA also argued that Rana had been evasive during questioning and was not cooperating with the investigation. The agency emphasised the need for further custodial interrogation to extract crucial information related to his alleged involvement in the attacks. In the legal proceedings concerning Tahawwur Rana, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was represented by Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan and Special Public Prosecutor Narender Mann. On the other hand, Advocate Piyush Sachdeva, from Legal Services, defended Rana in the matter. However, Rana's counsel opposed the extension of his remand, contending that additional custodial interrogation was unwarranted. Rana, a 64-year-old Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, was extradited from the United States earlier this month in connection with his purported role in the deadly 2008 terror strike on Mumbai. Following his extradition, he was placed under the NIA's custody in New Delhi, where investigators continue to probe his suspected links to the perpetrators of the attacks. The 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, orchestrated by the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed the lives of over 170 people and left hundreds injured. Rana's extradition and subsequent interrogation are part of India's ongoing efforts to bring all conspirators of the attacks to justice. (ANI)
