LONDON (Reuters) -Lee Blackett and Byron McGuigan will join Steve Borthwick's England coaching team for the upcoming summer tour to Argentina and the United States, the Rugby Football Union said on Monday.
Blackett, currently the attack coach of Premiership leaders Bath, will step in to replace Richard Wigglesworth while he is on duty as an assistant coach with The British & Irish Lions in Australia. Former Scotland winger McGuigan, currently defence coach at Sale Sharks, will work alongside Joe El-Abd as assistant defence coach.
England, without an expected-to-be sizeable Lions contingent, face Argentina in La Plata on July 5 and in San Juan on July 12 and the United States in Washington on July 19.
At the conclusion of the tour, Blackett and McGuigan will return to their respective clubs.
"England have traditionally travelled to Argentina when the British & Irish Lions play," Borthwick said. "It is a summer series that has always provided a fantastic opportunity for Premiership coaches to work in the Test environment. I am delighted that we are able to do just that once again.
"Lee and Byron both have a mindset and approach to their coaching that very much align with how we want to continue to play.
"Lee has a proven track record of developing teams that play smart and effective attacking rugby. Byron brings an energy and strong understanding of the game that underpins an aggressive defence."

Rugby-Scottish prop Fagerson out of Lions tour with injury, Bealham called up
Rugby Union - Six Nations Championship - Scotland v Ireland - Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, Scotland, Britain - February 9, 2025 Scotland's Zander Fagerson in action with Ireland's Finlay Bealham and Sam Prendergast REUTERS/Russell Cheyne (Reuters) -Scotland prop Zander Fagerson has been ruled out of the British & Irish Lions upcoming tour to Australia on Monday, having failed to recover from a calf injury, and Ireland's Finlay Bealham has been added to the squad. Fagerson started all five of Scotland's Six Nations matches this year, but suffered the injury during training with his club Glasgow Warriors in April and the 29-year-old tighthead has not played since. "It's tough on Zander to miss out so close to the Tour, but now Finlay gets an opportunity to come in and add to the group," Lions head coach Andy Farrell said. "This is unfortunately part and parcel of the game, so we always have to be prepared for that." The Lions squad gathered in Dublin on Monday ahead of a six-day training camp in Portugal with England's Jamie George and Asher Opoku-Fordjour also travelling to train with the squad. Players involved in the Premiership and United Rugby Championship finals will join up next week in Ireland where the Lions begin with a game against Argentina on June 20. The Lions will have five tour games before the first test in Brisbane on July 19. The second and third tests are on July 26 and August 2. (Reporting by Trevor StynesEditing by Christian Radnedge)

Rugby-Extra time under consideration for Lions series decider
FILE PHOTO: Rugby Australia Director of High-Performance Peter Horne, Australian National team Rugby Union coach-in-waiting Les Kiss, Australian National Rugby Union team current coach Joe Schmidt and Rugby Australia Chief Executive Phil Waugh pose at Sydney Football Stadium in Sydney, Australia April 30, 2025. REUTERS/Nick Mulvenney/File Photo SYDNEY (Reuters) -Rugby Australia chief Phil Waugh says the board of the British & Irish Lions is considering a proposal for sudden-death extra time should a deciding third test in the upcoming series finish in a draw. In 2017, in one of the great anti-climaxes in the history of the game, the Lions ended up sharing series honours with the All Blacks after the deciding third test ended in a 15-15 draw. Waugh said RA was keen to put the spectator experience at the heart of everything during the Lions tour so had suggested at meetings in London that 'golden point' extra time be played in such a situation. "We've had some really constructive conversations. That's got to go to the Lions board around whether it's a drawn series, or you decide it through golden point or extra time," Waugh told the Sydney Morning Herald. "Our preference, if we put the fans at the centre of everything we're doing, I think that the familiarity that everyone has with 'superpoint' and the interest for that in our market is a good guide. "Obviously, we will be making sure both parties agree. But I think that if you're thinking about some fan engagement, that's certainly very appealing."In the case of a draw after 80 minutes in Super Rugby matches, teams play 10 minutes of "superpoint" extra time with any score immediately deciding the winner. Waugh said both sides had agreed that the 20-minute red card, which has been played in the southern hemisphere for several seasons and made its debut in the Six Nations this year, would be the rule for the series. "We've been very vocal in our support for the 20-minute red card," Waugh told the newspaper. The Lions will play Argentina in Dublin on June 20 before three tests and six tour matches in Australia in June, July and August. (Reporting by Nick Mulvenney; Editing by Kate Mayberry)

Soccer-Coach Corica rails at officials as Auckland miss out on Grand Final
(Reuters) -Auckland FC coach Steve Corica criticised officials after missing out on a place in the A-League Grand Final as Saturday's 2-0 loss against Melbourne Victory denied the New Zealanders a season-ending clash against Melbourne City next week. Goals from Zinedine Machach and Bruno Fornaroli saw Victory overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit to allow Arthur Diles' side to set up an all-Melbourne final while Corica fumed over a disallowed effort from Logan Rogerson with 21 minutes remaining. "I don't want an apology, I want the right decision to be made," said Corica, who led A-League debutantes Auckland to the Premiership title. "My opinion is they got it wrong and that could have cost us getting back into the game, for one, and getting into a final. "You're talking about big decisions so you would hope they would get it right but I don't think so." Auckland were trailing 2-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate when Rogerson headed in from close range after Guillermo May had crossed from the byeline, momentarily believing he had pulled his side level overall. But officials ruled the ball had gone out of play before swinging back in prior to Rogerson making contact to leave the New Zealand international with his head in his hands and the 30,000 crowd booing the officials in anger. "The atmosphere was amazing here again, they've been sensational here all year, the supporters, and we appreciate that," said Corica. "I'm probably more disappointed for them. "I think they've been the best crowd all season, they've turned up every week in really good numbers and it's disappointing that they don't get to host a Grand Final next week because of poor refereeing decisions." Victory coach Diles claimed not to have seen the incident and was instead preparing himself for a meeting with crosstown rivals Melbourne City in the Grand Final. "It's a great moment for us as a football club, something we've worked really hard for and you get a reward tonight off the back of that," he said. "It was beautiful to play in front of 30,000 fans tonight. It was even nicer to spoil the party." (Reporting by Michael Church, Editing by Christian Schmollinger)
