India captain Rohit Sharma retires from test cricket ahead of England tour

MUMBAI, India (AP) — India captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from test cricket Wednesday ahead of the squad's upcoming tour of England.
The 38-year-old Sharma added that he will continue representing India in one-day internationals.
'It's been an absolute honor to represent my country in whites," he wrote on Instagram. 'Thank you for all the love and support over the years.'
Sharma struggled during the 2024-25 season, averaging just 10.93 runs in 11 innings over eight tests.
Overall, he scored 4,301 runs in 67 tests, an average of 40.57, with 12 centuries for the national team.
Sharma replaced Virat Kohli as captain in March 2022 and guided India to 12 wins, nine losses and three draws, while scoring 1,254 runs during that time.
It was a captaincy that ended with back-to-back series losses — a record 3-0 home defeat to New Zealand and a 4-1 loss to Australia that knocked India out of the 2025 World Test Championship.
'Thank you, Captain … End of an era in whites! ... We are proud of you, Hitman,' India cricket said in a statement.
Most recently, Sharma captained India to victories at the 2025 ODI Champions Trophy and the 2024 T20 World Cup, after which he announced his retirement from that format.
India opens its five-test tour of England on June 20.

Report: Bengals releasing veteran linebacker after 6 seasons
The Cincinnati Bengals are reportedly parting ways with a veteran linebacker after six seasons. Advertisement The Bengals have not yet announced Pratt's release themselves. Pelissero said the move would give the team $5.6 million in salary cap savings. TRENDING STORIES: Pratt was drafted in the third round in 2019 and started 88 games over 66 seasons, according to the Associated Press (AP). The AP also reported that Pratt requested a trade during the offseason as he was entering the final season of a three-year contract. He finished ninth in the NFL in 2024 with 143 tackles, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. Pratt sealed the Bengals' first playoff win during the 2021 Super Bowl run with an interception in the final seconds against Las Vegas. It was Cincinnati's first playoff victory in 31 seasons. Martinez entered to start the ninth with the Diamondbacks leading 4-0 and struck out Jorge Polanco and Randy Arozarena to begin the inning. The right-hander then called for an athletic trainer after throwing a pitch to Dylan Moore. Jeff Brigham replaced Martinez and gave up RBI singles to Donovan Solano and Cole Young before Dominic Canzone tied it with a 450-foot, two-run drive to right field for his first major league homer this season. Acquired from Arizona at the 2023 trade deadline, Canzone was called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day and entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh. Juan Morillo retired slugger Cal Raleigh with two runners aboard to finally end the inning.
