Girl seriously injured in Parnell Square stabbing incident back at school full-time
The girl, who is now six years old, was critically injured outside the Gaelscoil on Dublin's Parnell Square in November 2023.
Two other children and a carer who were also injured were treated in hospital and later discharged.
In an update shared on an online fundraiser, the family of the most seriously injured child said she has been making clear progress and paid tribute to her 'infectious' happiness.
'For us who see our angel warrior every day, it is more difficult to notice advances and changes in her, but for those who see her less often, her progress is clear,' the post said.
'She has been attending school full-time. She is not attending mainstream school, just to clarify. The staff at this very special institution have gone above and beyond (in our eyes) to make our little girl feel part of the group, even after joining mid-school year. We are forever grateful to the love and dedication everyone has shown her.'
The post continued: 'She has been attempting different sounds (some nasal ones) and moving her arms with more intent. Her happiness is infectious. We have had some challenging days; we all go through them, even if we wouldn't like a six-year-old to have to.
'As summer approaches, we are so happy to be able to spend it at home, hoping to spend days outdoors, smell the warm air, enjoy the sun and the sea.'
The child spent more than a year at Temple Street Children's Hospital following the incident and has endured intensive rehabilitation.
Her family have posted regular updates on her progress on Go Fund Me. The online fundraising platform, which has raised almost €133,000 to date, under the title Barróg do Chailín Beag (A Hug For A Little Girl).

Fundraiser launched to treat three Galway kittens struck by cars – ‘We simply can't do this without you'
Galway Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is organising the fundraiser to fund surgeries for three kittens: Allegro, Cadenza and Wednesday. The plea was issued on fundraising platform GoFundMe and said that all three cats are under a year old and have suffered 'life-altering' injuries after being struck by cars. A target of €1,800 has been set by the charity to provide essential care to the kittens on their road to recovery following the incidents. All three cats now face 'extensive' treatment to live pain-free lives, with the charity pleading for funds to tackle the 'mounting' vet bills. Allegro, the first cat affected, was discovered in Tuam with a shattered jaw. He was transferred to Briarhill Vets and received treatment that saw his jaw wired back into place. Galway SPCA says it is hoped that he will regain full use of his mouth. Cadenza arrived at care with a severe head wound and requiring surgery to remove her tail after being struck by a car. Further examinations revealed that the kitten suffers with constant pain due to a hip joint that moves out of place – causing 'intense pain' with every movement. Amputation had been considered but the charity has opted against that course of action due to the negative impact it would have on Cadenza's quality of life when combined with the loss of her tail. Galway SPCA says the only long-term solution is to fuse the joint surgically, requiring upwards of €2,000 to fund the cost of the procedure. Wednesday, the third cat affected, was also struck by a car. The tragic kitten was not taken to a vet until a week after the initial incident, worsening her condition. A hernia was the initial diagnosis, but Wednesday's condition was worsened as her muscles had started to heal around the damage. Now, four weeks after an initial operation, Wednesday is recovering but remains at risk of requiring further surgeries if the implanted grafts do not hold in place. On the fundraising page, Galway SPCA said: 'They may all be under a year old, but these three little souls, Allegro, Cadenza, and Wednesday share more than just youth in common. 'Each of them has suffered life-altering injuries after being hit by cars, and all three now face extensive veterinary treatment just to have a chance at a normal, pain-free life. 'We're once again coming to you, hat in hand, to ask for your help. The vet bills are mounting, and we simply can't do this without you.' Kerry mother ‘blown away' by support for fundraiser for medical team who saved her baby's life
Geraldine and Brendan O'Shea had never heard of The Irish Paediatric Acute Transport Service (IPATS) until their daughter Nell became very ill at just 13 months old having contracted Sepsis. As her life hung in the balance the need to transfer her from Cork University Hospital to Crumlin's Children's Hospital was immediate and this is where this vital medical team stepped in. IPATS supports the transfer of critically ill infants and children to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin or Temple Street Children's University Hospital and for Geraldine and Brendan they played a key role in saving their child's life. Now three months later as Nell is fully recovering and thriving the family wanted to help the medical team by raising funds and with the help of a fundraising walk and a GoFundMe they have raised more than €20,000 ' We wanted to give something back to them that but we never expected to be give something this big,' said Geraldine. 'We are eternally grateful to IPATS, they saved Nell. We owe them our baby's life.' The 5k fundraising walk took place from the Fair Field in Cahersiveen on Sunday last, June 1 and was a huge success with almost 500 taking part. "Someone said to me there was a real sense of community at the event. People are so genuine. It was a fabulous day. We will look back on this day fondly,' said Geraldine thanking everyone who supported them while Nell was ill and now during their fundraising drive. "We are absolutely blown away.' The money will now be used to buy equipment for the service. It is not a registered charity, so instead of handing over the funds raised Geraldine will buy the equipment they need which she said means everyone knows where the money is going.
