, in a recent interview with Lex Fridman, spoke about the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly tools like

, and their impact on jobs such as programming.
Pichai shared an optimistic view, stating that AI is helping free people to do more meaningful work. He said that because of AI, the 'opportunity space' to do more is expanding as well.
He acknowledged that while coding can be enjoyable, it also involves a fair amount of repetitive or time-consuming tasks. 'But it (AI) hopefully takes a lot of that away, makes it even more fun to code, frees you up more time to create, problem-solve, brainstorm with your fellow colleagues, and so on. So, that's the opportunity there.'

'And second,' he then continued, 'I think it'll attract, it'll put the creative power in more people's hands, which means people create more, that means there'll be more engineers doing more things.'
He also revealed that around 30% of the code written at Google today is assisted by AI. However, the more important focus, he said, is how AI is increasing the "engineering velocity" of the company. Engineering velocity is a measure of the speed and efficiency with which software development teams deliver new features, bug fixes, and improvements, according to Metridev, a metrics platform for tech companies to improve their engineering workflow.

'But the most important metric, and we carefully measure this, how much has our engineering velocity increased as a company due to AI. And it's tough to measure, and we rigorously try to measure it. And our estimates are that number is now at 10%.'
Pichai concluded by noting that he believes AI tools are not replacing developers but instead helping them improve: he feels like people 'adopt these tools and become better programmers.'

Apple also announced a new "Liquid Glass" design language for its software. This will display apps and toggles with a translucent, glass-like shine. The new design will be implemented in buttons, sliders, media controls and larger elements such as tab bars and sidebars, along with matching redesigned toolbars and navigation system. The tech giant is releasing updated Application Programming Interfaces so that developers can begin adapting their apps ahead of the release of the new design later this year. The company said that it is also making new additions of Apple Intelligence to its operating system, including Live Translation. Image Playground is also getting a new feature boost with the incorporation of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Apple will also let users learn more about what's on their iPhone screens with the help of Visual Intelligence. Users can search about images on their iPhones across Google, Etsy, and other supported apps. If the tool finds out that you are viewing an event, iOS 26 will suggest that you add it to your calendar. Additionally, the tech giant said that it would add generative AI to its Xcode coding tools that can help developers write code, test it and resolve errors.
