NFL long snapper causes commotion in church after interrupting service to demand answers over porn claims

Independent3 days ago

NFL long snapper Jake McQuaide was escorted out of an Ohio church by police after he demanded that a Catholic priest explain his alleged use of a diocese computer to view pornography.
McQuaide — who formerly played for the Vikings and the Dolphins — was at Our Lady of the Visitation in Green Township, Ohio on Saturday and demanded answers from Cincinnati Archdiocese Chancellor Jason Williams, who was addressing parishioners about allegations that priest Martin Bachman had used a church computer to watch porn.
One of the church members, Todd Zureick, claimed he saw images on a laptop containing "thumbnails to pornography sites and links to multiple virtual reality role-playing sites involving pornography, sexual assault, group sex, rape, and occult themes," WCPO reported.
He filed a complaint with the church earlier this year, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
During the Saturday meeting at the church, Williams read a letter from Archbishop Robert Casey saying the rumors weren't true.
'These have been investigated, and no wrongdoing — either criminally or ecclesiastically — has been substantiated … consequently, like gossip, the spreading of rumors is sinful, and we should all work to overcome this tendency of our fallen human nature,' the letter said.
McQuaide wasn't satisfied by the letter's blanket rejection of the claims, and stood up and made clear he wanted more information.
'Please take a second. We want to put these rumors to rest. Can you answer this for me … fact or fiction,' he said, according to WCPO.
The broadcaster reports that someone at the altar told the NFL players that it wasn't the right time for him to push for more information, but he disagreed.
'I'm sorry, sir, this is the time and the place. I will stand up. … Did the priest use our parish computer to look at pornography?" he said. "You can look at pornography at your house, but you cannot do it here.'
Green Township police officers, who were asked to attend the Saturday meeting to keep the peace, then escorted McQuaide out of the church.
Captain Mitch Hill of the Green Township Police Department said the NFL player was not detained and has not been charged with a crime.
Hill noted that even if a priest had looked at pornography using a church computer, it's not illegal.
'We were not provided any complaints from parishioners, but absent an aggravating factor, viewing pornography in and of itself would not be illegal or cause to launch a criminal investigation,' he told WCPO.
The priest at the center of the allegations is reportedly going to be away on a sabbatical that the Archbishop insisted was not related to the rumors.
Green Township police have said their investigation found no evidence of crimes committed by any members of the clergy.
According to WCPO, more than 700 people from the surrounding area have signed a petition demanding transparency about the issue.

Adam 'Pacman' Jones arrested, charged with assault of an officer

June 7 - Former NFL defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones is facing several charges in Kentucky, including assault of a police officer and public intoxication. WHIO TV 7 in Ohio reported that Jones was arrested on Friday night and booked into the Kenton County Jail early Saturday morning. Jones, 41, played 12 seasons in the NFL for four teams, including an eight-year run with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2010-17 that included All-Pro honors in 2014 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2015. This is not his first run-in with the law. Most recently, Jones was arrested at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Airport in 2023 on charges of alcohol intoxication, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. The NFL suspended Jones for the entire 2007 season for numerous violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy. He also missed the 2009 season. Drafted in the first round (sixth overall) by Tennessee in 2005, Jones recorded 17 interceptions and 509 tackles in 146 games (104 starts) with the Titans (2005-06), Dallas Cowboys (2008), Bengals and Denver Broncos (2018). --Field Level Media

Boy, eight, found murdered in plastic bag in an attic after being preyed on by unlikeliest of killers

An eight-year-old Ohio boy, who was found dead in plastic bags in an attic, is revealed to have been allegedly killed by his own mother. Martonio Wilder was found wrapped in a garbage bag in the attic of his Columbus home on June 28, 2024, around six hours after his mom, Lashanda Wilder, reported the boy missing. Martonio's mother, 33, and her girlfriend Johnna Lowe, 34, were both charged with murder, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, and felonious assault. Wilder had told police that Martonio had run away and that it had happened before, before his body was found at around 6.30pm. Martonio was found severely malnourished, weighing only 35 pounds, and dehydrated with signs of blunt force trauma, including multiple bruises and cuts on his face and head, according to the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney. The Franklin County Coroner's Office determined that the young boy had died from 'deep neck compression.' His autopsy report said his eyes and stomach were 'sunken' and he had a 'severe loss of muscle mass' allowing for his bones to be clearly visible through his skin. Lowe, Wilder, and two other children left the home after police arrived with a cadaver dog to assist in the search for Martonio prompting an amber alert for the two kids. They were later located with Lowe's mother, 68-year-old Mary Johnson, who is facing obstruction of justice charges. Lowe pled guilty to murder and abuse of a corpse and was sentenced to twelve months as well as fifteen years to life with the possibility of parole, according to court documents. The boy's life was described by prosecutor's as 'brutal,' according to ABC News. 'Multiple witnesses and some family members told detectives that Miss Wilder treated Martonio Wilder different than her other sons,' a prosecutor said. 'They spoke about unusual punishments for Martonio, including holding a weighted ball and walking up and down the steps while naked and restricting food. Witnesses also stated Martonio was always hungry and stole food from other homes he was at, including his school.' Lowe had turned herself in to police and prosecutors said she admitted that the couple intended to blame one of Martonio's siblings for his death, the Dispatch reported. Wilder remains in custody in Franklin County Jail on a $2 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court in July.
