Stage set for International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam
VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizag City is all set to host the International Yoga Day celebrations on RK Beach Road here on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, other ministers, officials, celebrities, and citizens from the North Andhra districts are expected to attend the mega event.
As a prelude to International Yoga Day, the State government launched the Yogandhra initiative on May 21, aiming to make yoga accessible to everyone. Over the past month, yoga training sessions were conducted across the state, drawing participation from people across various sections of society.
The concluding event of Yogandhra will take place simultaneously at thousands of locations across the state. As part of this, a mass yoga demonstration involving approximately 5 lakh participants is planned along the Visakhapatnam coastline on Saturday, with an attempt to set a Guinness World Record.
The event will be held along a 26-km stretch from Kali Mata Temple on RK Beach Road to Bheemunipatnam, with participants performing yoga throughout the route. Around 326 compartments have been set up, each supervised by a gazetted officer.
Each compartment includes yoga instructors, 3 demonstrators, 10 volunteers, medical staff (ANM and ASHA workers), a police officer, Guinness record verification representatives, sanitation workers, and supervisors. Approximately 1,438 yoga performers, including 907 instructors, will oversee the event.

Union Minister for Home and Cooperation Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations in Ahmedabad city and Mehsana respectively on Saturday. Under Shah's leadership, a campaign is on in Gandhinagar to make it the green constituency. According to the CM, nearly 1.5 crore people joined the Yoga Day celebrations across the state on Saturday. 'After PM Modi appealed to countrymen to fight obesity, Gujarat has also resolved to make an obesity-free and healthy Gujarat. Thanks to the PM's efforts, the ancient health heritage of Yoga and Pranayama has become a part of the daily lifestyle of people around the world,' said the CM. 'Regular yoga practice is very important for the health of the body and mind. If we take some time for yoga in the midst of a busy life, we can remain free from many diseases. Agra: ASI waives off entry fee for Taj Mahal on International Yoga Day
Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 21 (ANI): On the ocassion of the 11th International Day of Yoga, which is being celebrated on Saturday, entry to the iconic Agra's Taj Mahal is completely free. The Archaeological Survey of India, which is responsible for maintaining ancient monuments and archaeological sites, has waived the entry fee for the Taj Mahal. The ASI typically waives the entry fee to the Taj Mahal on special occasions such as World Heritage Day, celebrated on April 18th, and during Urs, Shah Jahan's death anniversary. But on the eve of International Day of Yoga, they have made entry to the Taj Mahal free, bringing cultural and wellness together. Along with the Taj Mahal, entry to several other historical monuments, such as Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Sikandra, and Etmad-ud-Daula, is free. On the International Day of Yoga, people are participating in yoga events all over India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed Yoga in in Visakhapatnam and urged the international community to embrace 'inner peace' as a 'global policy' and make yoga a collective global responsibility.
